Stuart Adamson always has lyrics that have impact. In this song, the lyric "I could walk a 1000 miles tonight and never find my place...at least until it gets too light to hide my tearful face." This is powerful poetry folks. If I were an English teacher in high schoole or college, I'd make my students study this poetry over most the crap I had to study has a kid.

This is another great song from Stuart and the lads. The CD "Driving to Damascus"is great. This band should have enjoyed a higher level of recognition, especially in North America. But it is good to see that so many people do care about this band and remember Stuart with love and respect.

Fragility. Life and love both. I'm incredibly disappointed that for whatever reason they cut the verse including the line "all I ever wanted, was to be that hero too" in part because it resonates so strongly with me personally, but also because I think it's a very telling truth he immortalised in song. I think if he'd realised he *was* a hero, how many people's lives he'd changed, he could have returned to Scotland, to a hero's welcome. We shouldn't erase that, I think. But what do I know? I'm a lost Scots poet myself and I just feel strongly about certain words and phrases sometimes and today it was that one. His words affected me and every piece of poetry from me will continue his legacy in the only way I can. I wouldn't be the writer I am today without his poetry saving the days, and getting me through "a lot of cold nights, missing..."

Like most people I was gutted when I heard about Stuart’s death. Big Country have been and always will be my number one band ever. End of story. Always listening to boy's as well as Stuarts side gig with Marcus (The Raphaels). Reading some of the comments just reaffirms what I have thought for forty odd years. Singer, song writer, Guitarist, entertainer there are few in this world that can/could sit at the top table. Only ever managed to see the Big Country once in my life and it is also one of my biggest regrets. Can't help but think of all the music we could have enjoyed. So, remember him, his songs and if you need help talk to someone, anyone well all do at some point in our life's.
Eddie Reader has the best Scottish female vocal that I have EVER heard. She is another lost talent, she should have been more recognised than she is. Big Country ROCK!!!!
In this video, Stuart resembles actor Ray Liotta a bit facially. Seldom does a day pass in which I lament his passing. .especially in the manner that he left the earth. His brilliance as a songwriter and guitarist is unsurpassed and I'm thankful I got to see him and BC in better times. The mark of a great artist is how they effect the way you feel for years to come. To that end, Stuart Adamson accomplished that. He is truly missed.
@TRANExWRECK I got my kids into them too, and they are 20, 17 and 15!! They were brought up listening to them lol Stunning lyrics, and a voice no-one can rival.
Big Country at their best. Loved them and miss them hugely. Deserved so much more recognition. If only Stuart knew how much we cared. Rest in Peace mate.
I love the song and enjoyed many of the comments. Many of you spoke very elegantly about Stuart. I wish I could too. I trust that I won't, so I'll be overly wordy and not as effective in what I'm trying to say instead. He was a bard and troubadour. His music and words always inspired and moved me. I am saddened by the depth of his sorrow. I wish there had been a way for him to get help. The ironic thing is that many of his songs speak of hard times but they often had a spirit of a good battle against those hard times and inspired me in my own life. This song has a deep sadness, but was blended so well with lyric and music that it is a truly artistic and a piece to be admired. Eddie Reader's vocals add a great deal. The whole band are insanely talented and use their talent in a way that always serves the song more than their own glory or vanity.
Stuart, you were the best! Stuart was the best Singer, and songwriter! This song was a great song among many of his songs. Stuart, you are missed dearly!
Sleep well Stuart. I first knew of you and Big Country back in 1997. You rock my friend and left your footprint on earth. Love you lots and will always listen to your stuff. Happy dreams.
absolutely brilliant! Was lucky enough to see BC several times between 85 & 99. The best live band I've ever seen. God bless Stuart and the chaps for the magical music they gave us over the years.

1st saw big country in 85 now i got my 11 year old daughter listening to this song if possible she may love it more than me. if u love this have a listen to troubled man it might just break your heart though.
Stuart was Big Country, and will always be Big Country. I happen to be blessed, and know Shelli, Stuart's Beautiful daughter. I know this family! Stuart started Big Country, and Stuarts music will never die! Shelli's, hit's "Wonder" and "Here In The Dark" are beautiful songs. Stuart's music will live on and never die. Best singer and songwriter UK ever .
My friend Tony who's a massive Big Country fan put me onto this, and I did follow Big Country in their early days...I'm now going to investigate their later stuff..He said this video is ominous....He wasn't wrong was he....R.I.P Stuart...
Yes they were better.... Incredible that so many people have not listened to their greatness !!! I am glad I do.... Each and Every Day... RIP Stuart...
Anybody know what album this version is from? The piano is toned down a slight bit and more of eddie reader's vocals compared to the "Drivin' to Damascus" version. This is one of my favourite BC songs from stuart's 'Nashville' period.
Manche gehen zu früh und keiner weiß es, aber der Verlust ist riesig. In stillem Gedenken an stuart. Ich hoffe da, wo du jetzt bist, gehts dir gut, wo immer das ist.
Was never a huge fan of Big Country's 90's stuff , but listening to this again just makes you realise they were still coming up with the odd great song , even if they were being largely ignored . I think this is probably Big Country's best video too
"Fragile Thing" Thank you ma'am for asking Yes I'm on my own I guess it's kind of obvious I'm eating here alone I'm grateful for the company Tired of talking to myself Don't you look into my eyes You might see someone else I've been to see a movie About a man who saved the world Had the same old happy ending Where the hero gets the girl And all I ever wanted Was to be that hero too Then I might still be with her Instead of here with you Love is a small and fragile thing I spend a lot of cold nights missing you Keep it in your hands or let it take wing I spend a lot of cold nights missing you Thank you for your time ma'am I'm gonna go and walk I might as well do that Because I'm running out of talk I could walk a thousand miles tonight And never find my place At least until it gets too light To hide my tearful face Love is a small and fragile thing I spend a lot of cold nights missing you Keep it in your hands or let it take wing I spend a lot of cold nights missing you I spend a lot of cold nights missing you There's a low ballet on the highway Brief faces in the light I catch them for a second Heading somewhere in the night And we have no connection But the darkness and the road I better find a place tonight I better call it home Love is a small and fragile thing I spend a lot of cold nights missing you Keep it in your hands or let it take wing I spend a lot of cold nights missing you I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
So I just listened to this twice. This is my third listen: there is a verse missing here! I was singing along (can't help it, it's my favourite song in the world) 3rd (and best, IMHO) verse, is actually "I've been to see a movie About a man who saved the world Had the same old happy ending Where the hero gets the girl And all I ever wanted Was to be that hero, too And then I might still be with her Instead of here with you"
Same here! I'm on my third listen and searching the comments for lyrics to find out if this is a different version or what. Glad someone else out there noticed. Absolutely scandalous that they would edit his poetry like this, because it speaks volumes, and was the line in my head when I got the inclination to listen to it just now.
This song is definitely growing on me, Stuart's voice is gorgeous. At first I wasn't sure what to make of it compared to the first 3 or 4 studio albums and quite frankly if this wasn't Big Country I'd probably by pass it because it doesn't exactly do a whole a lot for me, but I also like this video because Stuart looks good n' healthy.
This song is yet another example of Stuart's brilliance. The lyric "I could walk a thousand miles tonight and never find my place. At least until it gets to light to hide my tearful face."
Stuart you were the best! Stuart you are missed Buddy! Stuart, you Shelley, and Steve Hewlett were all Legends! My condolences go out to both Steve and Stuart! I love this song, it is so brilliant, thouh i miss Stuart too, he wrote the best lyrics ever and played guitar so good, that noone can play better
Sleep well Stuart. I first knew of you and Big Country back in 1997. You rock my friend and left your footprint on earth. Love you lots and will always listen to your stuff. Happy dreams.
I just love this,Eddie and Stuart's voices knit well together. I also thing this track shows how BC music had matured over the years ❤ ❤
absolutely brilliant! Was lucky enough to see BC several times between 85 & 99. The best live band I've ever seen. God bless Stuart and the chaps for the magical music they gave us over the years.
I think I've just heard my new favourite track, I'm a BC fan who lost touch for years but have my ticket for the London show. Stuarts memory lives on.
@TRANExWRECK your not the only one im 22 listened since the age of 7 there isnt bad song they did and stuart was just truly talented and will live in my memory forever
wonderful! And this was the last album of them! Look what they did!
Sad to live in a world where Ryan's toy review attracts more views in a day than this masterpiece has in 16 years...
Some will come back with a bang. Stuward went with a bang. Eteranal song n heavenly melody
THIS is proof that Big Country were no fad. Perfection! Too bad it's not on Spotify
It is now matey!
Fantastic album
My friend Tony who's a massive Big Country fan put me onto this, and I did follow Big Country in their early days...I'm now going to investigate their later stuff..He said this video is ominous....He wasn't wrong was he....R.I.P Stuart...
One of Stuart's best.
Yes they were better.... Incredible that so many people have not listened to their greatness !!! I am glad I do.... Each and Every Day... RIP Stuart...
16/12/21 is twenty years I think. Barring incidents and accidents I'll raise a glass to you Stuart.
Even now if i walk into our local musicshop for strings or whatever ,i still expect to bump into the bigman, cant believe he's gone.Heartbreaking.
God, this bring tears to my eyes, it was tragic what happenedwith Stuart but his talent and songs will always be remembered the all fans.
keep the music alive stayalive 30 years bigman
Anybody know what album this version is from? The piano is toned down a slight bit and more of eddie reader's vocals compared to the "Drivin' to Damascus" version. This is one of my favourite BC songs from stuart's 'Nashville' period.
one of the best songs ever made
Manche gehen zu früh und keiner weiß es, aber der Verlust ist riesig.
I think this is probably Big Country's best video too
stuart we miss you greetings from germany to all bc fans in the world
Driving To Damascas A Fitting Epitath Great Songwriter ,Great Singer ,Great Guitar ,The GUVNOR !!!!!!!!!!
Met Stuart twice. One of the nicest, gentlest chaps you could ever hope to meet. What a bloody shame.
At least he left us a few tunes. Still too sad.
Great tune!
"Fragile Thing"
Thank you ma'am for asking
Yes I'm on my own
I guess it's kind of obvious
I'm eating here alone
I'm grateful for the company
Tired of talking to myself
Don't you look into my eyes
You might see someone else
I've been to see a movie
About a man who saved the world
Had the same old happy ending
Where the hero gets the girl
And all I ever wanted
Was to be that hero too
Then I might still be with her
Instead of here with you
Love is a small and fragile thing
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
Thank you for your time ma'am
I'm gonna go and walk
I might as well do that
Because I'm running out of talk
I could walk a thousand miles tonight
And never find my place
At least until it gets too light
To hide my tearful face
Love is a small and fragile thing
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
There's a low ballet on the highway
Brief faces in the light
I catch them for a second
Heading somewhere in the night
And we have no connection
But the darkness and the road
I better find a place tonight
I better call it home
Love is a small and fragile thing
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
thanks utah
this means so much to me, and so many others
keep on posting videos, great job man
Still miss you and your music.
So I just listened to this twice. This is my third listen: there is a verse missing here! I was singing along (can't help it, it's my favourite song in the world)
3rd (and best, IMHO) verse, is actually
"I've been to see a movie
About a man who saved the world
Had the same old happy ending
Where the hero gets the girl
And all I ever wanted
Was to be that hero, too
And then I might still be with her
Instead of here with you"
Shows what happens when record companies go mad editing, where nothing can be longer than 4 minutes long!
A TRULY SEAMLESS Song. The Songwriter's "perfection".
Holy cow! This is great!
can't get enough of big country vids on you tube. nice one!
Brilliant, can't get this melody out of my head...
As per usual the man delivers , well backed up by Eddi. 👍👍
Been singing this all day
This song is yet another example of Stuart's brilliance. The lyric "I could walk a thousand miles tonight and never find my place. At least until it gets to light to hide my tearful face."
It can't get any better than this song
I know we all spend much time missing Stuart
Love this band totally n Stuart 4ever....So much missed!!! xxx
Beautiful song, totally gives me goosebumps all over. Amazing band pity Stuart never got the help he deserved. Thanks for posting the video.
