I prefer long beds because I pull a boat n it's more stable...also use it for a work truck...and hauling my Harley's ...ones a long bike...but I like short beds for a show truck, but done right a long beds sweet
Not a fan of short bed conversions, but I give you credit for the way you shortened the bed. I did auto body for over 20 years and this is one of the best versions I have seen so far. Great job. 👍
Suggestion If you want to save all the extra work of matching and welding that floor seam what I do is drill out the crossmember spotwelds and slide the floor right to front and redrill the two bed bolt holes and weld crossmember back up with new spot welds. You have to drill out and remove the extra couple crossmembers anyway.
I like how you wasnt all about 100% precision, these trucks had all kinds of inconsistencies in gap, lengths, squareness and all back then. If you cant see something wrong by eye it was good for trucks, looks good man cant wait to see the EV progression.
Exactly, these trucks have inconsistencies even within the same model year. Depending on who was working in the factory that day and what parts they had available. Plus, in the end, it’s just metal and you can fix it.
A short bed on average will be more valuable than a long bed. I'llgive you that. However, once you cut/hack them from long to short the value then becomes subjective and depends on the reputation of the builder or the desperation of the uninformed buyer. Given the expense of having to pay someone to do this work and then sell it after. It is unlikely the cost of the work would be recovered with the "increased value" of a shot bed over a long bed. Even if it is then kept in a bed "batch work" patina form. Short beds look sportier, that's the main attraction. There are too many hack job cv swap short, c-notch, short bed conversions out there asking unrealistic prices. Power to them, I'll keep my long bed.
Yep. In vintage vehicles (anything vintage) original is way more valuable. Even despite the quality of the work, any potential money thrown at a restored vehicle will immediately notice the VIN is for a long bed. Secondarily, anyone over 50 should realize car fads are just that. Trendy chops look good only in a short window, to a narrow audience. Most of us in the restoration world deal with "mods" from 20+ years ago as a frustrating money & time killer. This will only make long beds more valuable, simple economics of one less original bed out there.
As an outsider from Australia were i have no idea on values of these trucks, but plenty of experience in old school steel bumper vehicles. the long beds look much better i don't see the attraction to short beds. But either way great work on the actual conversion.
Imo a lowered down long bed looks so much better and have a much nicer stance and style and is much more useful as well as being way more harder to find!! Just depends on how you look at it!!🤔🙄
I bet those hubcaps are a real asset useful as a bumper sticker, there is no difference between a long bed and a short for work unless you have hubcaps then your truck looks lame
It's also good to have the long box truck, I don't know why there are stupid people who say that the short ones are better than the long ones, in reality they are the same, both are trucks 🤷🏻♂️
A lot of people do the Z cut on the frame. It takes longer that way because you have to be more precise when cutting the Z front and back so they line up properly. We were confident that good welds sandwiched between fish plates and boxed in would be just as strong and be less of a headache.
A " \ " cut with fish plates and boxing would have been as quick and better. If it was a 4x4 I would definitely " Z " cut with fish plates and boxing .
Is that Andrew Calkins looking impatient in the background at 5:35? I recognize him from such shows as Finnegan's garage, where he worked on Finnegan's C10.
I have a 71 f100 short box 4x4 , a 72 short box 4x4 F100 Ranger and a 68 f100 short box flairside 2 wheel drive that is the 5th truck built in 68 and it has 67 dash and knobs etc . 67 body mounts etc
Others are on the other side of the fence… Short beds are inadequate because you can’t do anything with them.. A truck is a truck & meant for haulin’ and most everything fits inside your long bed, your dirt bike/ motorcycle, your camper, your moving cargo not to mention lumber. a long bed and looks better because of the longer wheelbase.
Agreed! All of these guys cutting-up perfectly good 8' beds, regardless of the quality of the work, makes my '68 F250 long bed not only less "trendy", but also rarer, and thus possibly more valuable. Plus, not only do I not have to worry about running across another one like it, by default a longer wheelbase offers a better ride. So go ahead, guys! Shorten 'em up all you want!
I’m thinking of shortening the frame on a ‘75 F250 Camper special, it’s two tone with the wider mirrors, HD springs… both rear corners top to bottom have dents like from hitting a trailer while turning… so i’d have to replace/transplant both corners from a spare bed (short) so it would be plug&play after shortening the frame. Share your thoughts guys. I’m doubting. I would sell it anyway.
@@PerformanceProductions well glad i havent did any more than drill holes and “fitted” the CV front on mine, will these changes be suspension or cradle/k member changes?
That's a lot of skill time and labor there I would expect if I brought my 69 in there it would be in the 3-5 k range I would just buy a parted out short bed cut the 16" out and put the original short box on it . Although the skills here are great they did a top notch job he said it brought the value up 1-2 thousand but it would cost me 3 times to do it ? Ford's trucks are not high up on the value list I see them all the time running for 5-7 thousand . This was a demonstration of the skill of this shop if it was anything over 3 thousand to do this I would prefer buying another truck .
If you want a short bed why don't you just purchase one instead of going through all the hassle of cutting up a long bed. I prefer the long beds over short beds.
I own an original 69’ short bed but previous owners had a flat bed on it. It is nearly impossible to find real short beds, should I cut down a long bed or keep searching and keep the flat bed?
I mite have a stupid question but is it possible just to get a donor short bed and cut my frame only. I want to do a short bed truck but with half the work.
I tried to buy a long bed you can't hardly find them anywhere they're much more useful and I think the value is going to go way up compared to the short beds in the near future
Why not take the time and stay consistent with where you cut the frame on each side…. Right off the bat can tell you don’t take any pride in what you do .
The car project is successful. Continue. You are creative. I added you. I am a follower of Muhammad Al Shaibani. I added you to your follow-up. You are creative.🇸🇦💚❤️🇺🇲
I like the long bed I cuz you can put the toolbox in it and you can put your four wheeler in it I do not like short beds I'm a cowboy I don't want a long beds it's good and what are you doing I'm not going to do it to my truck I like how it is
I agree a short bed truck is more valuable than a long bed but that's not what you will end up with. You will have a truck that was converted from long to short. That's very different from a short bed truck when it comes to resale.
I gotta admire your work and methodology, but lowered short beds are kinda dated at this point. I'm no purist, but my truck gets lower when I put 10 sheets of plywood in there and I can still close the tailgate
Cutting a long bed MF making it a short bed is dumb. Short beds don’t look good and the limit the function of your truck. The only thing worse would be to lower it too!
If this kid thinks he’s gonna in the value of this truck by cutting the frame he is mistaken. The VIN still says it is a long bed. Now it is a long bed with an an altered frame.
I like both. Long bed owner myself. Maybe one day yall will convert so many Long beds to short beds, long beds will be rare and of value 🤣🤣
I prefer long beds because I pull a boat n it's more stable...also use it for a work truck...and hauling my Harley's ...ones a long bike...but I like short beds for a show truck, but done right a long beds sweet

Do you have a video of that...
My Dad had a truck like that.Even as a kit I remember the single wall top half...design. pretty cool.
Great tutorial! I’ve got a 70 F100 long bed and I’ve been thinking of doing this but I may go with the Schlong bed 7’ kinda right in the middle
Iv been trying to trade my short bed for a long bed high boy
Good stuff. I'm a fan of the short bed myself.
His angle head skills are amazing

If yall do come out with that plate and reinforcement kit that would be cool

Who cares looks good 😊
Long bed it's better for me I hate short beds
As an outsider from Australia were i have no idea on values of these trucks, but plenty of experience in old school steel bumper vehicles. the long beds look much better i don't see the attraction to short beds. But either way great work on the actual conversion.
Short bed trucks look funny to me~ Too much front, not enough back~ It's like when you see a person with a large torso, but tiny legs~
I love short beds . . . For driving around, however for WORK, long beds are the call
Imo a lowered down long bed looks so much better and have a much nicer stance and style and is much more useful as well as being way more harder to find!! Just depends on how you look at it!!🤔🙄
Yeah. B
Plus I pull my boats and like a longer camper, my 67 f 100 long bed is hella right
I had a cannery yellow 68 f100 6 3 on the colum crome west coast mirrors and crome bumpers with baby moons she was a short bead back then.
I bet those hubcaps are a real asset useful as a bumper sticker, there is no difference between a long bed and a short for work unless you have hubcaps then your truck looks lame
Not a fan of short bed fleetside but I love the short bed step side and I love long beds
Long beds all day. Short bed step sides look good.
Great work!
It's also good to have the long box truck, I don't know why there are stupid people who say that the short ones are better than the long ones, in reality they are the same, both are trucks 🤷🏻♂️
In my opinion, long beds are the only real "trucks", while short beds are glorified, bigger El Caminos~
Question??? I have always heard it was better to "Z" a frame when you cut one down and weld it back together. Curious on what you all thought.
A lot of people do the Z cut on the frame. It takes longer that way because you have to be more precise when cutting the Z front and back so they line up properly. We were confident that good welds sandwiched between fish plates and boxed in would be just as strong and be less of a headache.

I have a short bed sport custom 71 barn find

I've wanted to do this to my f100
Pretty nice!!!
Long beds for life baby! Keep making them shorties it’ll only bring up the value of the long bed🤘
I have a 71 f100 short box 4x4 , a 72 short box 4x4 F100 Ranger and a 68 f100 short box flairside 2 wheel drive that is the 5th truck built in 68 and it has 67 dash and knobs etc . 67 body mounts etc
Awesome video! Would this apply to a 64'?
I like both but no way would I cut a long bed. Mine will stay long.
I think you should have done the Z cut on the frame
This makes my long bed go up in value 🤣👍
Agreed! All of these guys cutting-up perfectly good 8' beds, regardless of the quality of the work, makes my '68 F250 long bed not only less "trendy", but also rarer, and thus possibly more valuable. Just hold out till long beds are rare and all the new craze then cash in. 😉👍
Great work but that dude @ 8:26 makin me nervous. Hand on the trigger with the disc against his wrist. Yikes.
Can I just cut the frame and try to find a short bed to go with it? Or thos it make any difference???
Maybe I missed it but is that a cv swap in the front?
It’s almost CV swapped. We’re working on some new designs to hopefully maximize the crown vic geometry and we’ll put out a video on that too.
@@PerformanceProductions well glad i havent did any more than drill holes and “fitted” the CV front on mine, will these changes be suspension or cradle/k member changes?
Hi, what is your locación?
How much does this run for? i have a 1972 f250 long bed that i want to make short bed
That's a lot of skill time and labor there I would expect if I brought my 69 in there it would be in the 3-5 k range I would just buy a parted out short bed cut the 16" out and put the original short box on it .

Why so many different tools for 4 basic cuts ?
How much would this cost to do?
In brazil doesn't exist long beds, so I decide make one
If you want a short bed why don't you just purchase one instead of going through all the hassle of cutting up a long bed. I prefer the long beds over short beds.
Bout 8 grand difference....
Can't find em
I own an original 69’ short bed but previous owners had a flat bed on it. It is nearly impossible to find real short beds, should I cut down a long bed or keep searching and keep the flat bed?
People are asking for (and getting) 2,000 bucks for a decent short bed now, and that's for the bed only!~ It's crazy!~
I mite have a stupid question but is it possible just to get a donor short bed and cut my frame only. I want to do a short bed truck but with half the work.
Why does everyone leave 8" of bandsaw blade showing to cut 1/4" plate? Easier to loose your arm i guess.
I prefer the long bed myself.
For me a long bed is more valuable, we fill up trucks with dirt bikes, 4 wheelers and wood. pretty much very thing.
I tried to buy a long bed you can't hardly find them anywhere they're much more useful and I think the value is going to go way up compared to the short beds in the near future
What the fuck patina that's the new word for rust fuck all that I like a nice shiny slick paint job !!!!
Shine on my man! 🤙
USA GMC ✌️🤪

The short bed trucks are more available than the long been in the short beds are more a lot more money than a long bed
Like my 4x4 long bed rides snoother
There goes the value of a truck to 🗑 trash!
Well i guss a fish plate is ok but id much prefer a Z notch
You said fake patina looks horrible....But overall is a FAKE short bed ..Just love Ford Trucks long beds , shorts beds .
Why would someone pay more for less truck
Why not take the time and stay consistent with where you cut the frame on each side…. Right off the bat can tell you don’t take any pride in what you do .
Short bed only way to go, only thing a long bed is good for is shorten to a short bed

All that work, and the front wheels and tires look like crap.
😮 how dare you 😵
I think you meant the back ones the front once are nice
@@luisnikejr6990 No, I said what I meant.
Haul some plywood in a short bed. Or is it a trailer queen that can't get dirty
Rad
Long beds are better than short beds. Short beds are the barbed wire tattoo of the car world.
If you can't put a sheet of 4x8 plywood into the truck and close the tailgate, it ain't a real truck.
How to make your truck more valuable cut it in half
No hate I loved the video it’s just a joke
No proper measurements will cause bad fitment and possibly bad tracking issues once completed, these guys should know better than that.
Cutting a long bed MF making it a short bed is dumb. Short beds don’t look good and the limit the function of your truck. The only thing worse would be to lower it too!
Short beds look better, long beds ride better.
If you can't fit 8 foot sheets of plywood it ain't a real truck
Lowering it and adding horrible rims definitely lowers you value.
wasted time and energy in an otherwise great project
🤔
The amount of cope is strong in these comments.
Lowered trucks look like shit. Might as well throw a rock through a stained glass window.
From a classic to ghetto trash....
If this kid thinks he’s gonna in the value of this truck by cutting the frame he is mistaken. The VIN still says it is a long bed. Now it is a long bed with an an altered frame.
