    Thanks for making this video, Omar. A while back I had someone check my form and the video he recorded clearly showed me turning squats into good mornings. The video you did with Mr. Hamilton was also very helpful but adding this cue to my laundry list of others will hopefully help me get my squat form straightened out.
    Sadly, my gym has just recently removed its squat and power rack (singular, very scary indeed) in favour of new and shiny machines. I won't be working out for a long long time seeing as it was the only affordable gym with a squat rack and I don't have the money yet to buy my own equipment.
    Regardless, thanks for this video and keep up the good work!

    OmarIsuf , i love how much attention has been paid to bench/overhead press a over the past month and squatting for past 3 weeks or so (especially the emphasis on squats because i have been noticing as i train for my first powerlifting competition this summer that so few people squat and/or deadlift with proper form and/or much intensity relative to their body weight). through your past few squat videos i've gotten back to weights that i havent hit in years on the squats and the technique fixes have me confident ive got a lot more progress ahead. having said that, any chance we can get similar videos on deadlifting? i've been waiting for you to get Jeremy blaster018 to do a "X Big Beginner Deadlift Mistakes" video!!

  • @Fit4Life921
    @Fit4Life921 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    well said my friend. i think a lot of people are scared of forward knee travel which --> too much hip flexion. im not suggesting in low bar have knees come way past the toes as is common in high bar ATG...merely that when initiating the lift most lifters will be strongest with a balance of knees/hips

    So what Mark Rippetoe says in his book about flexing the spinal erectors which causes a slight arch in the lower back but not hyper extension is not completely correct, compared to just squeezing the glutes before descent? I’m pretty confused about that part any input would be appreciated.

    my squat issue is my stronger right side taking more load, I seem to twist a little, and because of this, my right oblique/abs are more developed than my left side now :/ fucked up

  • @neilorourke71
    @neilorourke71 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have this problem. I think one of the causes is lack of ankle flexibility. not being able to flex the ankles enough throws the entire upper body off balance, so to compensate for that, guys lower their back to try and bring the bar back over their center of gravity. This, as omar said, pretty much turns it into a fucked up good morning, and too much load is placed on the lower back, hamstrings and glutes, while the quads remain relatively inactive. So in addition to Omar's advice, I would also work on ankle flexibility, so you can maintain proper back position under load, and achieve the quad activation necessary to perform a proper and safe squat.

      Had? What did you do to alleviate it? I been doing stretches for about a month, anti-inflamatories only work for about as long as I use them.

    • @chrisschell90
      @chrisschell90 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dreamtrain Had but only sort of. The doctor said it could come back at basically anytime. Mine was definitely a herniated disc putting pressure on the nerve. The pain was intense in my hip. That was Feb 2013 and no recurrence. Never did any stretching mostly ice and heat and rest.

    • @murdockqotsa
      @murdockqotsa 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had it too. Most definitely a herniated disc. Sorry to break it to you, but a month of stretching ain't gonna do shit. Some people suffer for years, some have it reoccur. But continue doing stretches. Things like sphinx/seal pose temporarily alleviated the pain for me. Long term solution was to fix the faulty recruitment patterns. It took me like 4-5 months to be able to have strong workouts and like a year before I felt no pain at all. Good luck with your recovery.

      That's what I'm trying to figure out. I can squeeze my cheeks and feel my back straighten out, but there's no way I keep can keep it like that the whole way down. It starts to relax and I can feel my back hyper extend.

    • @Algorithm.
      @Algorithm. 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to keep it squeezed, your glutes are probably not used to (strong enough) to stay activated throughout the entire movement, so you should honestly restart your current wait to beginner levels to get your glutes up to level with the rest of your squatting muscles.

      I don't think there necessary, I squatted barefoot until my gym told me I couldn't so I purchased them. Unless you plan on competing I say train with No shoes, No belt, No knee sleeves, That's my opinion. Unless of course your gym requires shoes then and only then I say get them.
