The hook with the stitch counter could be great for when you chain for a blanket. Imagine needing to crochet 300 stitches, so crochet 10 stitches, then hit the button. So you only hit the button 30 times, and you can make sure you don't loose track of where you are.
I personally couldn't see me pressing that button for every stitch, but counting by 5 or 10 sounds super helpful
I’m doing a temperature blanket and did 250 stitches. I placed a stitch marker every 20 then 10 because thats the amount I had lol but yeah same concept! Great idea!
I use stitch markers to keep track of my stitches too.
I am a self taught crocheter, (with the help of the internet) and never was taught how to hold the yarn or hook, but as you were explaining how your grandma taught you to hold your yarn, I looked down (I was in the middle of crocheting) and realized that’s the exact way I instinctively hold my yarn 😅🩵
I ended up holding it differently than the person who taught me initially (it was like a half hour of them teaching me to chain and single crochet lmao), and it turns out a lot of people hold it the same way I do 😂
I'm self taught to lol
Self taught and yes I hold it like that
I taught myself how to crochet back in the 80s when TH-cam didn't exist. I just picked up the yarn and copied what I saw my mom doing because she absolutely refused to teach me how. But I never held my yarn the way she did, or like the lady in the video holds hers, I hold my totally different...lol I used to resent my mother for being that selfish of a person (she's a Boomer...lol) but the fact that my skills surpass hers many times over, I'm glad I didn't learn from her...lol
@@FujishimaAkiko I love that for you!
I think the yarn spinner is probably the only one I would use. Thank you for the demonstration and your honest opinion.
The yarn spinner is absolutely my favorite and the one I’ll use the most! Thanks for watching!
I use yarn bowls, but the idea of not having to ball up the yarn by hand and just using the magnet stick sounds like a dream.
i just bought a yarn spinner/baller thing and its pretty good but takes a while to make the cakes. now im like why didnt i find the magnetic spinner sooner!
For the wooden yarn holder, I found if you move your skein up the holding stick a little so its not fully flat on the base of it, it stops most of the small getting stuck moments and just keeps going smoothly!
Honestly, the little finger stitch counter is my favorite thing. I watch a lot of tv and listen to music a lot when crocheting, which makes me loose my place. So after every stitch, my brain and thumb just automatically hits the little button to count
“It was not pretty. Well- I mean the peacock was pretty.” 🤣 that made me laugh so hard
🦚🦚🦚
The little “mini watch” stitch counter comes in very handy for amigurumi or similarly complicated patterns. I put it on the same finger you did and count each stitch, and I love it because I’m already having to pay close attention to which stitch I’m on, so I can’t get in a mindless flow.
I use mine all the time for amigurumi. I would never know what round I'm on without it.
Yes, I love mine for amigurumi!(currently using it as I watch the video and crochet)
Instead of yarn bowl or spinner I just do a center pull. It sometimes gets tangled and I have to pull, but it never rolls away and works super easy
I feel like every time I do that I get yarn barfs 😂
My thoughts exactly. The spinner is a pretty object, but it's designed for outside pull
@@HollyAuna Everybody gets yarn barf with centre-pull; it is just one of those things. You pull out the yarn barf, use it up, and then you've got your centre-pull going.
I often use a yarn bowl *with* centre-pull, because the yarn bowl is still holding the ball in place nicely, which can be helpful if the ball is tight and needs more tugging to get the yarn out.
@@HollyAuna yarn barf sounds so much better, i usually call it “prolapsing the yarnussy” 😭😭
My mom used to walk and knit! I was the designated yarn bag carrier 😂
Omgosh that’s amazing!!!
I'm a crochet walker, too. I just have the yarn in a bag and use the center pull. It has to be a pattern I can just keep banging out without too much counting or thinking, like a granny, that sort of thing. LOL, the looks I get while waiting in lines doing this are hilarious.
My daughter kept stealing my hoodies. I found out it was because she found the pocket perfect for holding a center pull skein so she could walk and crochet
@@MamaMonsterPridewait, she’s a genius
Ok the walk and crochet, theres something fabulous about putting my yarn on a leash. 😂😂😂 i usually use huge skeins that would never work for that but i really want one now.
Use the center pull and a bag. It works well that way.
For a yarn bowl I use a large metal ikea bowl (BLANDA BLANK). It doesn't have the little cutout to feed the yarn through, but you don't really need that. I just set it on the floor below me while I sit on the couch and crochet. The sides are smooth so the yarn unravels super easy, it's heavy so it doesn't tip or move, and it keeps the skein from running away.
I also use a metal bowl to hold my yarn. I use a medium binder clip on the side and slip the yarn through the metal loop handles. It's super handy to stow my hook and project I'm working on.
I saw someone make a yarn bowl out of a hat box. They just made a hole in the lid of the box and put a washer inside the hole.
Now they can put the yarn inside the box, pull a thread through the hole, and put the lid back on to keep the yarn from getting dust on it.
Came back to add a new comment. I ordered the yarn spinner last night. It came today and I absolutely love it. My cat keeps hitting it when it spins but I love not pulling.
Did you buy the exact same one? But if you did, where did you buy it bc i love it so much but i can't seem to find it, lol 😂
@@jasminemarkey6996 hey love, you can find the excact yarn spinner in the description box of this video!. Its the first link ☺️.
With the last item, the wrist spinner, put the skein on in the other direction so it creates a better pulling tension. I bet it will not tangle as often!
I have the finger counter and I use it for counting my rows and I love mine. I think I would use all the products except that yarn bowl thing. I really want that adorable walk around crochet holder. This will have to be my late Mothers Day gift to myself.
I won’t do a push up for every like this comment gets

just a reminder that you have 86 pushups to not do!!
I love the row counters. I use mine all the time. Also, my brother was attacked by a peacock when he was younger, so he also does not like them.
I NEED that first product. The yarn spinner... Omg. I have 4 cats, one of them absolutely LOVES to grab my yarn ball and run around the house with it. That spinner would be amazing
That yarn spinner is a must have for me.
I am a pencil holder BUT i can't part with both of my grandmas crochet hooks for that electric hook. I inherited all their crochet supplies, patterns and yarn when they passed away.
For the ring counter I have a package of 2 from my maternal grandma's crochet stuff I inherited and i use it on my middle finger on my left hand and I use it to count rows for me when I'm making baby blankets and plushies. Especially the plushies because the stitch counts change almost every row and I lose track of the rows easily.
I've got too much of a tight tension to use those crochet rings.
Middle finger of the left hand, same for me! I have a truly terrible working memory, so I do need to use it to count every stitch, and that's how I got comfortable with it.
I love the wall paper behind you! The whole room looks so cozy to crochet in!
I love this video idea because I’ve never seen any of these products
And I love how Tilly is in every video somehow 😂❤
Tilly is literally sitting in my lap right now and I have a good feeling she’s going to be in most of the videos to come lol
ohmygosh you’re driving me crazy with the rings LOL I have odd joints in my fingers so it’s very difficult for me to keep correct tension (it’s why it took me years to learn) but I found adjustable crystal rings and used them to help and they are a GAME CHANGER!! You don’t have to get crochet specific rings, MANY places sell them labeled as adjustable rings! and if they’re too big (like in the video) you can squeeze them tighter! easy peasy:)
When I was at Disney I used that final surprise hack and I used a plastic hook, since the alarms would beep at me with my metal ergonomic ones. It was *awesome*
Oh my gosh, what a good hack!
I have one of the wooden yarn spinners. It is fantastic. I love it. I used to do center pull, but the spinner is so much better. I found that cotton yarn skeins tend to lose their shape and squish down (the same way the 2nd skein you tried on it did), which then makes it catch and not spin freely. So what I do is wind it into a cake and it works perfectly.
I'm kind of new to crochet (I can make a simple blanket but I'm only just starting to learn to read a pattern). However I've been knitting for more than 50 years. I got one of those ring counters about a year ago and love it! It's great for counting rows. Not sure if I'll use it for crochet but for knitting it's a game changer
This Is a super helpful video! Thank you for testing this out for us! There is so much Cool things for crocheters!!!!
Oh my gosh, thank you for watching. I had so much fun making this video.! I really want to make it a series
Tilly is sooo cute!! These all seem sooo cool! Thanks for trying them for us ❤
Tilly is curled up in my lap right now 😭🧶😻
When I used a similar one, I only clicked it every 10 stitches. It was helpful and I didn’t change how I held my hand.
I had a nice ceramic yarn bowl that I loved. Cat broke it by pushing it off the table. The wood one I have is nice but some yarns stick. The yarn spinner looks great.
Of COURSE the cat pushed the yarn bowl off the table!!!
Too much time & attention NOT dedicated to Kitty!!! 😄
Off topic comment here - I love the shroom wall paper behind you. 😄
We love off topic here 😂 🍄it’s a super easy peel and stick renter friendly paper from Amazon actually!!!!! amzn.to/3wlmepw
With the walking thingy, and you're on you're on the treadmill,,,well you are working those arms at the same time! So, hey,,,you're getting a two for one workout! Thanks for sharing these!!
I used the same orange cotton to make goldfish for my cats and hid cat nip in the stuffing 😊
I am an absolute beginner at crochet and I am really struggling with tension. I just bought the crochet rings so hopefully that will help. I’m learning so I can make myself bandannas and whenever my friend has a kid I can make it a blanket 😊 all I’ve made so far is swatches but I’m… hooked lmfao. I’m cycling between my OG hobby of cross stitch and this new hobby of crochet. Wish me luck y’all!
crochet and cross stitch pair together really well :) i love seeing projects where people combine them! its pretty popular for pillows :)
I love my crochet finger counter! I use it for amigurumi for every, "3sc and inc do 6 times" or whatever I count each 3sc increase as 1 and then i know how many I've done. Sometimes I'll wear 2 (or set the 2nd one next to me) one for rows, one for stitches.
My mom got me some crochet rings for my birthday and its amazinggg. I typically hold the yarn in between my pointer and middle finger so my hand cramps up after awhile. The rings are a life changer. Ive tried holding my yarn other ways, but they are not comfy on my hands. The rings are also so cute so its a win-win ❤😊
Really enjoyed this video. There were products I’ve been curious about. The yarn spinners have been on my list. The ring counters, I’ve tried and was disappointed. Instead, I use this silicone “pop it” toy that has numbers up to 100. It works amazing for smaller projects like amigurumi. I have another that goes to 30. I also have a clickable counter for knitting that goes to 100. Those two methods are my favorite. I actually have a ring that I love. It’s bendable and sized for plus size fingers. I love it and it has made my tension more consistent with my amigurumi. I love the hooks. I think I have the same set. The square thing, I haven’t ordered because it seemed flimsy to me. Anyways, thanks for the video! Looking forward to more of this type of video in future! 🧶💜
I use a ziplock bag and cut a hole in a corner and thread the yarn through works great.
The way you hold your yarn is how my grandma taught me to hold mine, many years ago.
would love for this to be a series !!
Hi I 'm 11 year old I am about to start crocheting I had no idea how to crochet and your video's really help
I wrote this to tell you thank you
I wrote this in this video because I forgot to write 😅
You're fantastic. What a lovely crocheter
So excited for this to come out! Unfortunately l can’t go on the live but I’ll rewatch it❤❤
❤❤❤❤
I really like seeing all the ways you use the stuff. Great job! I need one of the rings!!
Omgosh you would love the rings!
My last cat was named Tilly. She was a tabby with no white. The best cat ever.
I have a wrist spinner for crochet thread, and it's a game changer. I just didn't realize larger ones existed for heavier yarn.
I would love the yarn holder that you like even the travel one. I also love the little finger yarn row counter,I use that every time I crochet. Thanks for reviewing everything and giving your opinion. Hugs
Love the yarn spinner! I will most likely purchase this!! Thank you, love your videos!
I think that the lighted hook set would be great when using dark yarn . Wish I had one right now.
I found that it really wasn't that great forme bc the light is at the bottom of the hook. I think it would be more useful if the head would light up so you could see the stitch, especially when working with dark yarn. 🤔
I love my counting hook. I don't really count the stitches, but the rows. It's so useful for counting rows. AND I LOVE THE LIGHT it comes with too!
I crocheted my yarn bowl and I love it. ❤
did you use a pattern for it? :)
@@conan4real I did but I modified it because my yarn was super chunky. It was from Hobbii. I'll look for the name.
The pattern is called "Ribbon baskets". I made mine in Oct 2023 so not sure if the pattern is still available. It was basic stitches, magic ring, single crochet, long single crochet and using back loops. I used a 10.0mm hook with Bernat Plush big yarn in the color after dark to start the bottom. When I got to the sides I moved up to a 11.5mm hook. I added plastic canvas to the bottom and sides to give it sturdiness. It ended up with a circumference of 13in but I reduced rows and stitch count to keep it manageable. Now I am using another modified version of it to make a blanket basket with Hobbii Ribbon yarn.
@@ali_b_lush2 wow thank you so much for the information!!!💛 i really appreciate it :)
@@conan4real glad to help 😊🧶💖
This was a very fun Video! I might consider buying a few things😊
Oh thank you and yes, let us know if you do!!
@@HollyAuna Will do!
I just started using a yarn bowl and personally I love it. I even like hand winding the yarn
Thank you for the realistic set up with the yarn holder.
I have the lighted crochet hook and my tips used to fall off all the time until I actually used the wrench and got them to snap into place. They never fell off again LOL It's one of my favorites because it fits my hand better than the standard hooks do, and the light is super handy. It's so much more comfortable for me to use that I tend to default to it now. I can't see using the stitch counter one, I'd forget to click after each stitch LOL
The yarn box is a great concept!
oh. my. god. I am buying and showing this to all my crochet friends.
I am watching this now!!!
Thanks for watching!!!
@HollyAuna I am literally crocheting watching this 😅😅
Your walking spinner, I have a suggestion. Apply graphite to the metal where it spins at. Graphite makes metal slick and I feel it would allow the mechanism to move freely.
I keep graphite around at all times. It’s the greatest when you squeeze it into a lock. Run your key in and out a few times and BAM. Also great for any kind of door. Even car doors.
I have so so many of those little counters that look like watches. I put it on my left thumb (I’m right handed) that holds my work and I have gotten fast at tapping it with my other thumb after every row. (I don’t use it for stitches) and it’s so helpful for stuffed animals!
the last one spins really well if you hook it above you! mine came with a hook. the yarn spinning strap is literally my favorite yarn tool ever. i also to hook to my purse while im at appointments. & in hospitals/dialysis (im a frequent flier) ill hook it to iv poles and it spins perfectly. Youve definitely pushed me to get a wooden magnet one for at home!
hi ! i'm discovering your channel with this video and i just love your energy ! you're so positive ☀️
Awe hi welcome to the sunflower family!!! 🌻🌻🌻
I have one of those little cute counters in that color and I use it to count rows on my knitting machine! Love the yarn holder. I might need one of those!
What kind of knitting machine do you have? Luckily my lk150 has a row counter built into it it’s positioned where every time I slide it back-and-forth it counts a row somehow the machine hitting this lever 😂 but I just got a circular machine as well and I don’t think it has one built-in. Maybe I will use it for that!
I really love the yarn holder so far !
Hi holly you are the reason why i love crocheting and thank you for the video it made me laugh❤❤❤
I love making toys for my cat too! I made a big snake out of bernat blanket and he fux it up it’s hilarious!!!! I stuffed it with catnip so he’ll get a wif and start attacking the crap out of it and then snuggle it. 😂
This is the first video I've watched on your channel. Thank you for the reviews! I was especially curious about the magnet ball holder. I'm going to order it. It looks like it will work as i hoped it would. Yes! Please do more reviews on craft items.
I love the counter that looks like a watch. I have 2.
I have the hook with the stitch counter and it lights up, it’s so useful and I literally love it so much for travel crocheting, crocheting in bed, or even with dark yarn!!
I learned about the beauty blender hack last fall, it legitimately saved me on a couple custom order deadlines. I work in a factory so repetitive motion can be an issue for me as I have mild carpal tunnel. The beauty blender has a permanent home in my crochet kit now.
Oh it seems like it would get in the way for me but I’m willing to try it because I have carpal and cubital tunnel and if it stops my wrist from getting sore I’m all for it
ok first off I'm so so excited for this video as I've been wanting to try a lot of these tools for ages!
I use a center pull yarn ball. Love it.
The yarn magnet thing you reviewed was so interesting, I bought myself one, and it's one of the best things I've ever purchased for my crocheting!
This is so useful!!!! I needed this!!! Thank you so much!!! 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Oh my gosh, thank you for watching!!! 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Oh for the crochet hook that counts stitches I don't think it's a necessity. I personally use a tally counter app in my phone. It's has a green logo. Anyways it allowes me to create groups of items (I have one for all my projects) and I can rename each counter as I want. Change the incrementation (if I want it to move up by two as I'm maybe counting stitches in two) you can also turn it into a percentage tracker and even set limits on it. It works great because I can keep track of everything.
Can you share a little more about the tally app that you use? I’m working with a pattern and I’m always either missing a stitch or adding too many 😭
Thank you so much, i love your hair!!!! And you're makeup.
Awe thank you so much!!!
I have the finger row counter. It is really helpful.
I'm so glad you did the yarn holder at the beginning! I've been wanting to get one and now I know it will be amazing! Now the stitch counting hook, I would just use it for rows. And I love the small yarn spinner! Also, I've always wanted to go to the TN Renfair but my health doesn't let me walk very far. I hope you have fun! ❤
A tension ring was a game changer for me. I can't tension the yarn in my left hand without my hand cramping, and the ring allows me to crochet more conventionally (I had to switch up how I tension both knitting and crochet). I really enjoy mine, it's an octopus :)
This yarn hanging thing is beautiful
I really love it!
I prefer the counter you put on your finger. I can put it where I want.
This is such a great video! I might need one of those yarn spinners lol
Honestly, I am so obsessed with the yarn spinner. It’s going to be such a big help.
Girl derserves 1 million subs
Welcome to the sunflower family! Comment 🌻 if you’re subbed !
Bye Holly and thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. I’m sorry I’ve only been able to come to three livestreams but I always look forward to your videos! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for coming to the live stream and for watching the videos! So glad you are in the sunflower family!
I love this video. I only wish that I had found it sooner. Like before I spent so much money on yarn bowls. LOL. I did look at the yarn spinner but thought that there was no way that the magnet would hold with larger skeins. I now have 2 beautiful yarn bowls however. I don't regret the purchases but I really like the spinner. I just subscribed and look forward to more of your videos. Thanks.
I’ve never tried an actual yarn bowl, but I’ve been thinking of using my dremel to cut a yarn feed in the side of a large wooden salad bowl I use. I hold my yarn exactly like you do, and I use a little snek ring if I’m doing long projects. Makes working either thinner yarns for long periods of time a lot more comfortable. I’m super interested in both yarn spinners. I might try and make one of the wrist bands ones out of things I already have.
For crocheting in the dark get a head lamp. As someone who doesn’t have a lamp in there room, the head lamp is better than having my room light on and having to get out of bed to turn it off when I’m done crocheting
I roll my skeins into balls, and then I sit in a recliner and crochet. The ball sits between my legs and I keep it in with my feet. My cat will sit on top of the ball and it doesnt really even slow me down. 😅 These are cool. Glad to see someone try these things. I've also used a sanitized christmas popcorn tin, you know the 1 gallon metal containers? The ball will flop around but not out.
Love my tension ring, it’s a cat head and keeps my yarn more forward on my finger instead of ending up at the base where my hand tend to be warmer and my yarn doesn’t slide as easily.
Good morning Holly, I just found you today and you have a great energy. I was considering buying the “walking” yarn holder, for travelling realised would keep yarn off the floor. Will now buy one. Many thanks Debs
Awe hi Debs welcome to the sunflower family!!!
This video is such a good find, I’m so glad to be subscribed to you! I was ur first like ♥️ I liked the vid and live first when I got the notification that you were gonna post yesterday! I love your content!
Oh my gosh, Hannah thank you for being a part of the sunflower family!
My favourite yarn bowl has to be a random container from the cupboard. Yes you heard me right. A plastic container.
Agreed!
Eh, it makes sense. With large balls I often use a small cardboard box, because most yarn bowls are too small for the larger balls.
Lol
Really great video, I am getting the rings.
Awe, thank you for watching!! And let me know if you like the rings!!!
I use the stitch counter to count my rows, not stitches. I'm right-handed and wear it on my left thumb. It's out of the way. I also close it up to fit my thumb, then pull it off and on like a ring. Works great.
Omgggg I am in love with your wallpaper! I’ve always wondered about tension rings, but it’s taken me a year to “feel” the perfect tension so the ring would take away from that 😂 p.s. I also learned that I hold my crochet hook steak knife style 😂 I also don’t like the feel of “pencil” style. I also hold my yarn the same way as you and I also feel like it’s the best 😂😂
Tilly is so cute! I didn't know how you got a cat so I went back and watched the story of how you got Tilly and she is so cute. By the way, you should try to make her a crochet cat, cat toy
Cakes definitely work better….I bought a cake winder to go with my yarn jeanie and I absolutely love it.
If you wear the little "watch " style counter on your thumb out of the way of your working yarn and area its actually kinda helpful
Omg you hold your yarn the same way I do! My momma taught me that way and I dunno if I could ever change it up cause I've just perfected my tension that way. Though I might try a ring cause the crochet marathon chafing is no joke lol.
I love my ring row counter
They’re so cute !
Omg I love love love you're hair it is Beautiful. Mine was passed my knees about 2 years ago and I got it cut ✂️ to my shoulders, and I have been keeping it that short sense. I am pentecostal so we don't believe in cutting it but it has helped me so much in so many way like saving money on shampoo and headaches and stuff. But I do miss my long hairs so much but another reason I cut it is because as I was getting older it was falling out more and getting thinner and dried out and started looking too scraggly looking.
The counting hook is more convenient if you click after 5 or 10 stitches instead of after each stitch. And yes, rows are easier. 😊
Brilliant love this
I like the ceramic planters for yarn bowls. Most yarn bowls are too shallow in my opinion. I do not use the guide on the side of the yarn bowl. I am definitely buying the magnetic holder!
