When the banks went bust back in 2008 the government bailed them out with £1,200 billion or £80k for every UK family of 4. When ppl in the Valleys have their lives destroyed through no fault of their own they're told there's no money. I'm sure all those families would like to see a man from the government turn up with a suitcase full of £80k banknotes but poor people are not bankers, we get a kick in the teeth.
Or to look at it another way: you move onto a flood plain, expect your insurance to pay out for the very thing the area is known for, and everybody ELSE'S premiums go up to cover it. I know which I think is fairer.

Desperately needed funds to help these areas and people while untold billions squandered by Boris and his government on vanity projects like Hs2. and bridges to Ireland. While many pot holed roads in the country are worse than some cart tracks.
Are they vanity projects or important infrastructural projects? There's never a good time to spend tens of billions of pounds, but if you wait until you have it lying around spare, large projects will never happen. How would you spend the money to help these people?

The houses have been here for a lot longet than you have been alive, and what went wrong was the Councils did not keep the culverts and dranage ditches clear, and the EU stopped river dredging. That is why we in Wales have been flooded.

I think planning laws in the whole of the UK will need to be revised, so that buildings, particularly homes, cannot be built on land that is lower than x. Quantify it.

i went to france to work for a month in september and came back to wales and since i have been back it as rained every week apart from 1 dry week thats a lot of rain fall so i think councils should have planned better they can see storms coming long before we can so why not act sooner and people could have had more resources to try to stop this tragic event and more rain is coming but its to late now and familys are now broken by this and lost faith in our councils who we trust to help us as we pay them to with there taxes its shameful and disappointing keep strong wales and all of the UK who have been affected by these events god bless you all

Clearly most of the commenters below don't have the slightest clue how insurance works. INSURANCE IS A BUSINESS NOT AS CHARITY.. If you crash your car, your insurance goes up because you are a greater risk. If you keep crashing your car, nobody will insure you and your driving days are over for a while. Likewise, if you buy a house somewhere that regularly floods, that's YOUR stupidity. It's not the responsibility of an insurer OR the rest of us via government to reimburse you. If you take the gamble and win, we don't get to share your profits, so why should we share your losses when we never got a vote on the risks?
