Even though I truly don't believe anyone has the authority to change the GVWR with the exception of the manufacturer who has come up with these figures through engineering, I am not the expert and I am not going to argue with you. What would give you the true answer to that question, is your insurance company. If your alterations should fail and result in a tragedy, the insurance company is who you need the blessing from, that your work has validity. What you did may indeed cover some of the weight carrying issues with your truck, but I don't see where you have addressed stoping.. Stoping is far the more important issue. Best of luck to you and your new family..Be safe

Thank you for watching and I did look into this information as well. The Code does cover this fact that the alterer assumes legal responsibility for all liabilities under the Vehicle Safeties Act when they issue the certification sticker. For the Braking, a F250, F350 SRW, and F350 DRW all have the same brake calipers, pads, and rotor diameter. We did not touch the vehicles towing capacity of 20,000 pounds, just the weight carrying capacity. I hope you have a wonderful day and stay safe!

A person or company that is certified to make alterations to vehicles, and certify those alterations, including changes to GVWR are in fact, allowed to make those alterations in a legal manner. In this case, it appears that the company that was used, is allowed to make those alterations and certify the vehicle to a new gross vehicle weight rating. Someone who is not certified to do so, may not make those changes to your vehicle in a legal manner, even though the components you add to the vehicle, may actually increase the gross vehicle weight rating. However, without the ability to certify that change, the legal gross vehicle weight rating will not change.

Just a note, the manufacturer warranty, disappears as soon as the vehicle is certified by another company. I would also doubt the other company certified the brake system for the new GVWR. Too many issues with this, just buy a new truck that fits the job.

How did you locate a certified. I know of this fed code and have been trying to do the same thing.

The salesperson at the dealership I bought the Momentum from knew about the local shop. They were a huge help. The dealerships in your local area might have the information for you.

@@BabyTravelers that's incredibly reasonable. I've been looking to do exactly this. I don't need to tow more than 20k but I would like to have extra payload.

@@TheOGPickleRick we thought so too. Especially since we bought our truck brand new in 2020 before prices and interest rates went up. It was a reasonable option.

Save up your money for a dually. That's what you need.

Thank you for watching. It is not about the money as the upgrades vs the price difference for a dually are negligible. This truck is my daily driver in an urban area and it is not feasible to drive a dually in this environment. We have a truck that is legally and safely able to tow our RV and want to share the information. Stay safe out there!
