Knopfler is my hero and the reason I play guitar. I’m planning on bidding, but I’m skeptical about the estimates-they seem awfully low. I know some rich/famous bidders will probably drive the prices up, but one can dream….
Edit: Yeah I just looked at what the guitars from the Eric Clapton and David Gilmour actions went for - zero chance any of these estimates are remotely realistic. There goes that dream :(

It produced THE sound of an electric guitar for me though in my case it's Knopfler's tone on Brothers in Arms.
I realised why that is my "reference" tone for an electric guitar sound not long ago. My family got our first CD player in '87 when I would have been 7 years old and the first CD my dad bought and played when we got it home was the Brother's in Arms album which had come out that year.
I remember going to pick it up and the excitement of that new thing and hearing music reproduced in a whole new way and in such high quality for the first time has indelibly burned that guitar tone into my brain

Something about them clusen style tuners looked a little off . Most that I have seen have a polished part on the side and opposite on back with lettering saying clusen or Gibson. With lines between. That was definitely classical strings on the Chet Atkins acoustic. So yes its a classical. The Fender Fulerton Concert amps are becoming popular again . Especially that 63 . Been seeeing a lot of people clambering about them on Fender forums. That travel stand up bass was worth watching to the end. It's the same reason I typically stay to the end of a movie. Sometimes there's a surprise at the end like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

You'd hardly believe it, but I think the part of your vid that blew me away was the second I saw a balalaika in the collection. That caught my eye because it took me back to my teen years, when a balalaika helped to introduce me into the world of guitar. I was a sort of Army brat whose family lived in West Germany (Yeah, that long ago!) starting in 1972. One year, my mother took a trip to the USSR; when she returned, she brought back two musical instruments for display purposes. That's about all they were good for, too, especially the mandolin. It couldn't hold tune. I did mess around with the other one, the balalaika, for weeks after she brought it home -- long enough for certain things about its fretboard to soak into my head. Sometime later, I tried a guitar owned by a friend and got HOOKED because that balalaika stuff worked here, too. Been a guitar junkie ever since, right to this very day!

The Brothers in Arms/Money for Nothing LP really did get done a disservice in both those videos, all covered over with cartoon graphics or bright neon colours lol
That and his other prehistoric are both pretty big guitars from Gibson's history of that period (I believe there is also another one that was made for Mark's brother David) and I hope you get one of them or maybe something else cool from this collection
Mark Knopfler was also one of the very first users of Soldano amps. If you look down the list of the first SLO-100 buyers he's right up near the top. If that was his SLO-100 I saw there briefly or if it is for sale in this auction, then that is really a very historic amp. Maybe not in your usual wheelhouse Austin but if you get in and bid in this auction and you see his SLO-100 going for a decent price, it would be well worth the bid.

MK selling the majority of his guitars a sign he will never tour again. Im told his health is affecting him and hes just messibg around in his studio putting a new album together but not able to tour. Glad Clapton is still touring and and remaining on the right side of history.

Doing a Knopfler video without highlighting a single Strat in its own segment is sacrilege. Should change the name of your channel to, "Trogly's Gibson Show".

I agree with the above comments, he’s a Gibson guy. HOWEVER, when you are doing an artist auction, go through all of the guitars. Trogs, you’ve done fenders before, when it’s as famous as this, talk about it.
