This was a very nice video, Nick! I love seeing all these small villages of the real Algarve, that I had never heard of before. Not only is your voice very mellow and relaxing, but the drive seemed to be the same. I imagine one would need to be at least partially fluent in Portuguese to interact with the villagers in these towns, as this is probably Not an area seen by many Anglos. I love how you do the map and the Google Earth views, so we get a great visual of where these places are, and how to access them from better known cities. Adding in the history, plus resources like walkAlgarve.com is also appreciated. Very nice 20 minute tour!
Hello, I'm planning at trip to Portugal in September. We plan to spend three days in the Algarve before departing from Faro to Rome. We are trying to figure out the best way to see the coast from Lagos to the border with Spain so we can really see the beaches, towns and old fortresses along the Algarve. What's the best way to approach this goal? Should we rent a car or does the area have adequate public transportation between the towns in the Algarve? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have not yet decided which town to stay in while down in the Algarve that puts us in a position to see most of the coastal area. I'm looking at Portugal for retirement so I wanted to get a feel for it while I'm there. I think I want to retire in the Algarve because the climate is supposed to be warmer in winter and it's supposed to be sunny most of the year based on what I've read.
@@AlgarveAddicts Thanks so much. We are starting our Portugal trip in Porto and renting a car to drive down the Silver Coast to Lisbon. We thought we would take a train from Lisbon to the Algarve but it sounds like we should just rent another car in Lisbon and drive down to the Algarve or take the train down to the Algarve and rent a car when we get there. I think it may be better to stay someplace in the central coastal Algarve and just do day trips since everything appears to be about two hours in each direction. If you have a better idea, I'm happy to hear it. Thanks for responding.
Hi Nick. We're a Cape Town couple looking for a finca/property/ruin that can be renovated for the purposes of establishing a guesthouse of at least 6 double rooms, in a more ‘rural’ out of town setting, but still with accessibility to beaches. Hahaha, sorry that it upsets you Louella. It kind of gets to me when some people say "on the Algarve" too, but you know, we kind of just have to live with that. Grammatically you're 100% correct now that I think about it. 👍🏼
@@AlgarveAddicts Are we being serious ? Don't apologize Nick... Over the last 10 years we've made so many videos and livestreams on both our websites "BuyInTheAlgarve" and "RentInTheAlgarve" and no one has ever pulled us up on it ! Well done Nick - Keep up the good work !
@@AlgarveAddicts Actually, if I may, Louella is in fact wrong about this. It is 100% right to say "The Algarve", for a couple of reasons: First of all, in Portuguese, we say "O Algarve" ("O" meaning "The") just as we say "O Minho", "O Alentejo", "O Douro", "O Porto", etc. (All of these are regions of Portugal). We don't say, for example, "Eu vou a Algarve" ("I'm going to Algarve"), we say "Eu vou ao Algarve" meaning, "I'm going to the Algarve"! The territory of Portugal used to be divided into provinces, and the Algarve was just one of them, just as Minho, Alentejo, etc., were! Secondly, for a brief period of time, Portugal was called "O Reino Unido de Portugal, Brasil, e dos Algarves" or "The United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves" -- "The Algarves", plural, because Portugal used to have a few enclaves in Morocco, thus the term "Algarves". I hope this brings some clarity to the matter.

Thanks Jim, your compliments are well appreciated 🙂👍🏼
Exceptional Video fantastic footage and so informative . thanls Nic the title of Algarve Anbassador is yours :)
Michelle, you get the title of "best comment ever"! Thank you so much ☺️
Hello,
I'm planning at trip to Portugal in September.
Hi Chuck, I'd suggest you rent a car and then you can stay anywhere and explore. Lagos, Silves, Loulé and Tavira are pretty popular with expats.
If you know of anything please get in touch. Prepared to honour "finders fee".
Hi Anthony, would you mind emailing me and I can take a look? www algarveaddicts.com/contact Thanks.
You’re great thank you! Maybe you can do a video on micro climates in the algrave 🌞
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Nick. You are getting better and better at these !
You are certainly not making them in a vacuum !
So useful. Many thanks.
Ps I’m curious about the resort near Querenca ! Who submits the “business case “ for these developments. That’s never going to “sell”. Not T2’s at €450K
Utter madness. It will be another “the keys“ controversy.
Anyway, enough of my negativity ! Thanks again.
Cheers Max, you need to read the
"The Power of Positive Thinking" by Dr Norman Vincent Peale 😂😂😂😂
@@AlgarveAddicts love all those books ! I have them all ! But as i get older .......
Hello Max: A few years ago, or better about 60 Years ago a "Stupid Dutch" did the same: bought a huge piece of land that the "Smart Ones" were refusing to gent on their inheritance. Well that piece of land that no one wanted is nowadays one of the best holidays resort in Europe. "VALE DO LOBO, Turning the Dutch into a ver Wise Man. Who knows what will look like that big investment in the milled of no where, 60 years from Now? Anyway, there are people with so much money and wondering what to do with it!.... Cheers
@@grandadan I liked your story ! But not really the same as some guys building expensive offerings in that location!
Time will tell.
@@AlgarveAddicts you mentioned those books, and being a South African .... you reminded me of a man I read about.
He, sadly, was upset in his mid 40’s , and actually depressed. Mostly because he wasn’t as successful as his roommate from college.
The man himself, was wealthy and popular, a serial entrepreneur.
The problem was; his roommate from college, was Elon Musk !
Where is a good country area away from tourist areas but close enough to a good private hospital please? Thank you for these lovely videos.
You're welcome. I already answered your other question but good private hospitals are in Faro, Loulé and Alvor, so near there...
Absolute thrill these videos to learn of the adventures and exploration that potentially exists in these district, concelho, to fergulesia, am gone crazy 😝 , one video seemlessly integrates into another. Btw the 12 biking trails video is everything but biking, sure appreciate the backroads, hiking areas, didn’t get to see where the lovely biking trails are, maybe am missing something. Fantastic videos all the same! Carvoeheiro restaurant turned ruin a sad story indeed. Maybe the economy will turn back w immigrants flowing back with cash.
Hi Ranga! How are you? I haven't made a video about 12 biking trails... (?)
You could have pointed out the portuguese flag painted on the side of the hill, in Alte. We can see it but you could have called attention to it. 😉
As far as I know, it's the only place in Portugal that has such a big Portuguese painted flag painted.
Yup, and what's the story behind it? It's been repainted at least once...
Hi Nick. Do you´ve any indication when the borders are going to open?
Sorry Piotr, I have no idea. Check out www.portugalresident.com for the latest info in English.
Thanks
I hope that helps. It would be cool if I could tell you though.
Nick could not find the link for the book. TIA
Aaah! I feel like I owe you a prize Anita. I was waiting for someone to call me out on that one! It's been a crazy busy week and I have been meaning to add it in.
@@AlgarveAddicts a glass of white wine will do . Thanks
Lots of that here. You're on!
@@anitainlisbon8836 finally I have put in the link. Sorry!

Nick, thanks....I saw a video headline that said Portugal will become the Venezuela of Europe. Can you see anything like that happening? I don't speak Portuguese, but I could make out the headline, I hope it's a bunch of nonsense....th-cam.com/video/5V6iHHhPKrs/w-d-xo.html
Hi mate ! You're living here for a while. You're almost portuguese ! Please don't spell "Querença' with spanish accent. We, the portuguese, hate that (I'm sure your wife as well)...😉🤣
Where did I do that?
@@AlgarveAddicts min 0:59 min...
I appreciate what you are doing but please stop refering to 'the Algarve'. It is simply Algarve. The same applies to 'the Alentejo'.
Thank you.
Cheers guys.
@@AlgarveAddicts Actually, if I may, Louella is in fact wrong about this. It is 100% right to say "The Algarve", for a couple of reasons:
First of all, in Portuguese, we say "O Algarve" ("O" meaning "The") just as we say "O Minho", "O Alentejo", "O Douro", "O Porto", etc.
It sure does Miguel, thanks for the explanation. 👍🏼
