Hey, I had the US version of this very same radio and I loved it! My girlfriend at the time found it in her parents attic and gave it to me, I fixed it up and really enjoyed it all through the 80’s and 90’s. The first time I heard “numbers stations” was on the shortwave band of this radio, and the FM was superb on it too. I also had to make my own power supply so I didn’t have to use batteries. What a great radio, funny I can’t remember what ever became of it but until now I’ve never seen another one.
I have a Transita Royal with Long Wave, Medium wave and UKW with the original transportable unit to allow the radio to fit to your car. Still working perfectly after 20 odd years with superb audio. If only the Fm was stereo.

This again tends to demonstrate just how well German radios were made. Also is it just me or is this radio sexy as hell ? I sure think it is, so much so, I browsed for one and sure enough I spotted a similar one on Marketplace ; a Transita Automatic, so a bit different, with the dial glass mostly black instead of mostly white, base is also black instead of white but the same red leather. If the seller wasn't asking so much (too much) for it, I would get it. Thanks for sharing this, the alignment process was also very interesting to watch. Keep-em coming, I'm always watching :-)

What a nice Nordmende radio! Here in the US, I rarely see any Nordmende cabinet colors except for the very dark green (almost black) color. I think more colors were offered in Europe.
That looks pretty busy inside! Lots of work to be done. I suspected C147 or C148. As always, great repair. 👍 The scope view looks pretty good, and could look better with an old transistor change,

The reason the external power connector has a negative connection on the centre and positive on the outer is because the PNP transistor circuitry needs a positive ground on the PCB. Therefore the outer of the external power connector is positive to connect to the PCB ground, and the inner is negative to connect to the 'power' rail.
Museum quality restoration, you certainly include the value of every radio you touch. Might I suggest that you start placing a paper service by tag nothing invasive perhaps rubber cement a pepper with your icon & date on the inner chassis.
Branding for the future … yes, a good idea. If someone sees it, it means I’ve failed and they’ve had to come in and do a repair. If I’m successful, no one will ever see it as the paper should disintegrate before it needs an intervention. 😊
@@electronicsoldandnew In 50 or 100 years some component gives up ghost, the next generation restoration artists will find a label and have washed your restoration future version of TH-cam and marvel at such great workmanship.
That's a very good idea. A restoration like this, with such proficiency and craftsmanship, is a form of art, and like any art work it should be signed by the artist. "Restored on _____(date) by ____ (name, logo, coordinates).

It was super fascinating and so well explained - I really enjoyed it! 👌 Now, I have a theoretical question for a friend (well, actually for me): I accidentally reversed the polarity on the power input of the exact same radio … 🤦♂ Since then, it’s been making loud buzzing and crackling noises, but it’s still picking up stations in the background. Do you have any tips on which components I should check or replace first to save my "friend's" radio? Thanks so much for your help - and the next beer is on me! 🍻 Best regards, A friend in trouble
Start by changing the electrolytic caps as these would have been reversed in polarity with power up. After that I’d check the transistors, one at a time. One or more would probably be damaged. Good luck.

So, I went on an eBay treasure hunt for some budget-friendly replacement Germanium transistors. And, praise the eBay gods, I found a super cheap seller for the four transistors in the “power amp” section. After the swap: Chef’s kiss - perfect! I’m happy again! And honestly, I think I got pretty lucky because now, even after replacing the capacitors, it’s playing better than ever. 😄 So, dear Manuel, thanks again for your help - you’re the best! 🙌
Nice work - and beautiful radio. Interestingly on my, usually negative centre pin radios (Hackers and some but not all Roberts), I insert the Schottky into the negative line. On the basis if anyone does happen to "reverse polarity" it the diode is the first thing that meets and thus stops the (adverse) positive current? Gerry
That is a beautiful Radio....I wish I could get German Radios....I have Philips Holland Radios and stereos....I got from the Junk Shop....it is the only place you can get things that is not made in China.... because there are no European Electronics in the stores here 😮
Manuel I wonder if the Germanium transistors have deteriorated over time and that's why reception is weak. I've had that before. Another cause is reverse voltage, likely from the wrong supply being plugged in.
Mostly from mouser. I like to use nichicons or Panasonics, but not religiously, as long as I’ve bought them from a reputable supplier to avoid buying fakes.
Yes, I watched all of your Back To Basics videoa. I thought possibly you had a book or two with a great collection of schematics to follow. No matter, I have collected many schematics from the internet and also purchased many. However, it always is good to reach out to others as to where they get their schematics. By the way, you are so good a these radio repairs. Some day I would like to visit and say hello and thank you for all your great repair videos!

As a former electronice engineer, I would love to relearn a l9t of forgotten skills by doing a restoration. My challenge is living in Malaysia, locally sourced valve sets are like hens teeth!
You need z different brand of capacitors, the music is getting through just fine. But the speech is very distorted i can't understand what they are saying 😂they just sound like they are talking in a foreign language. 😅😂😊

This one I believe was sold in 65/67. I love their sound.

Meant to add. Maybe with it being a rapid switching diode it doesn't make much difference whether it is in the negative or positive line?
