  • In this Vienna travel vlog, I'm going to show you how to spend 24 hours in Vienna for the ultimate Vienna Austria food tour, starting with where to find the #1 BEST wienerschnitzel in Vienna. Our Vienna food tour starts at the most FAMOUS bakery in Vienna, Cafe Central, for beautiful Austrian desserts. From there, I'll show you where to have the most delicious lunch for traditional Austrian dishes, and after lunch, I'll show you where to go for the BEST Vienna street food, followed by a stop to eat the famous Sachertorte. Before dinner, I'll show you a great Vienna rooftop bar for drinks and then I'm taking you to my absolute favorite Vienna restaurant, Figlmuller, for the WORLD'S BEST SCHNITZEL...it is literally, the BIGGEST and most delicious schnitzel you will EVER eat!!!

Comes to Vienna for food diversity...shows only the 1st district and the main tourist places to eat. Overpriced and overhyped.
Geeez, wanna eat like a Viennese? Visit any Beisl in any other district and you get the real experience.

maivpitheomniscient thanks for watching. I came to Vienna to experience Vienna, which includes tourist places...flavor is flavor and they were all great...and they are touristy for a reason right?! My guess is if you came to New York you might hit a few yourself!? Lol I do appreciate the comment, it’s just funny to see how some locals tear down their long standing establishments versus celebrating them. We don’t have these kind of places in the US and it was really a treat. Cheers!

@@EuroTrotter I am a local and I agree with @maivpitheomniscient. Just because someone famous ate there or it is a big touristy restaurant doesnt mean that it captures the feeling or the athmosphere of vienna. Also I actually think that when you do a "Food Tour" you should eat where the locals eat and not the high class of vienna who can afford a fricking 5€ cake. Just go into any Wirtshaus outside of the 1st district and you will see that the atmosphere counts and in my opinion it makes the food so much better.

Hey Sophia, I'm sorry you feel that way and I respectfully disagree. For me, this is a video about what I like to see and do, it isn't a promo video for the city or a tourism office, in which case, I would certainly understand your perspective! That said, I love to check out the food seen, foods we just don't have like that back in the states...and when you're not from Vienna, as I am not, checking out these places is a real treat! There wasn't one part of Vienna I didn't like...I welcome any suggestions you have on local places for me to check out on my next trip to Vienna! 😀Cheers from Denver!

@@sexntuna Hello Sextuna, I am not Austrian, but I have been there about 15 times and I can give you a suggestion because I love eating Austrian dishes: Try a Beisl, which offers authentic local dishes. They are not all expensive, and here is a list I found. I have eaten a couple of times at Reinthaler Beisl, a few steps away from St. Stephens Cathedral in the very center. Such food! Such atmosphere! I would skip the dessert, though, and head for one of the best konditorei in the center: see the link for bakeries/konditorei after this link. www.google.com/search?

Also a Viennese. While I dont think the restaurants shown are considered tourist traps, I agree that it does not necessarily represent where locals would choose to eat :) also most of them where located in District 1, so of course it is more pricey than more outside the city center :)

I don‘t understand all the „negative“ comments. I‘m from Vienna too and of course those are not the spots you go to every day when you live here but i think the point of this video is to show tourists a few of the nice places here and as a tourist usually you go to the touristy places. Yes these Restaurants may be a litte „overpriced“ but not just in Vienna are the tourist spots overpriced. Glad you liked it here.

My favourite place more than Vienna is Innsbruck in the Tyrol in Western Austria, close to the Alps. This was the favourite place of the Emperor Maximilian I (r. 1486-1515), who said that while other nations make war, the Habsburgs make good marriages. It's just so beautiful. Too many tourists at local places spoil the experience for residents, my favourite example is Altwien. Since it is in guide books it became worse and worse. So please, all the tourists can go to Figlmüller and stay away from my favourite Wirtshäuser.

@@EuroTrotter The reason is that the "wiener" was invented by someone from Frankfurt who was living in Vienna. So to us it was from that guy from Frankfurt, but for the rest of the world it's from Vienna (Wien). Anyway, don't buy a "Wiener Wurst" in Austria and expect a wiener (Frankfurter), because we do have a sausage called Wiener, but it is something completely different.

Amazing that we did not get to Vienna when we lived in GE for 3 yrs, but spent time in Austria (of course all over GE), France, a ton of smaller countries I got lost in... My husband of 42 yrs is helping me locate where my grandmother came from in Italy, her mother was Italian and her father was ... German! A surprise (!) she did not talk about it all when she had my identical twin and I up to PA for the summers. Those summers were EVERYTHING, I cannot wait to locate her village and go see it I believe next spring. So many places to go to, I love the peoples of the world, I know you do also. Go visit the Schonbrunn and Hofsburg Palaces of the Habsburgs, take a ride on the Ringstrasse, the tram that goes around the city. Don't forget to eat Viennese specialties like Afpfelstrudel and Wiener Schnitzel. Take a carriage ride to the outskirts too. Oh don't forget to try Kasekreiner sausage and Doner Kebab.

"Tafelspitz" is part of the hip-piece and ends there where the tail-piece begins
But the cuts of a beef are different in Austria and Germany than in the USA in general.
Referering to the US - cut where you have one large cut called "round cut" we have 3 sections and the Tafelspitz is located at the top of the round - cut.

@@EuroTrotter Well thanks for the response and "You´re welcome"....I got to your vlog totally by chance while watching an other vlog and youtube as usual switched then automatically to the next one which was your´s and I thought by myself "Oh someone visited my city" (I´m Viennese by the way - obviously) so I watched it too....and as you asked the waiter what kind of meat is "Tafelspitz" - I simply felt a bit sorry for not receiving an proper answer by him but just repeating "that´s Tafelspitz"..he simply should have known better because he handles with Tourists day in and day out so you probably won´t be definitively the only one who would ask that question....So I thought I will get you an proper answer better late than never although I´m not a butcher or Chef at all but I can cook and know our traditional food respectively dishes....and by the way the white sauce was not a kind of sauce Tartare either... that was also a very sloppy answer as well because in a sauce Tartare is mayonnaise but that was a pure sour-cream based chives sauce (just sour-cream a bit of salt and pepper and fresh chopped chives) which is by far as not as heavy than a sauce Tartare...just saying
And the Tafelspitz is the exquisite version of that particular dish because the meat is obviously expensive and therefore just for special occasions like a celebration for instance...avarage people make the same dish as a kind of avarage meal at home with a piece of the beef´s shoulder which has a way more reasonable price but then the dish is not called Tafelspitz of course but just called so to say - very profane - translated into english "boiled beef" which what it literally is.

meh.... you can get great schnitzel anywhere in Vienna. It's so easy to make, anyone can do it. My mother was Austrian and when she cooked, I paid attention. Genuine schnitzel is made from veal, but most people like it better from pork. All these places in the vid are essential Viennese tourist locations, but it's always better to jus walk in a smaller place and tell the staff to pick something for you - or just have what's on the reader outside the door. They usually have just two things that day. Defintely have the Lieberknodl soup. Just do.
Interestingly, the last time I was there with my brother, we stopped at a local beisl for lunch, but the cook didn't know how to make spetzle, a potato dumpling pasta, strained through a screen that produces its unique shapes. Sort of like potato noodles, but resembling those Cheeto things.
My brother offered to go back to the kitchen and make some. He did, and the owner went outside and wrote the lunch menu on the ubiquitous chalk board and soon people were filing in and having their spetzle with mushroom gravy ala Americana. It was a great blue collar afternoon, with many friends made through good food, done well.
Another time I was there, I was out very early and wanting an "American Breakfast" but in Austria, they make eggs over easy more like in France - brown and lacey around the edges - which Americans normally reject as over cooked. I walked into the only place that was open and found it almost empty except foer one other man, who typically looked up from his coffee and paper without acknowledgement. I asked about my prefernce but was told that the cook was unsure what I meant about O/E eggs Americana. I offered to help since it was not busy. He came out and we talked about things and soon I was in the kitchen cracking eggs and getting a good golden pan roast on the potatoes, instead of the more typical soft cooked spuds. I added some sliced onions, a small amount of green pepper, and garlic, and plated everything with their excellent thick sliced bacon. I made enough so the cook and myself could eat together.
He was hooked. The owner was also impressed, and that breakfast was added to the menu and was very popular as Fruhstuck Americaner. Twenty years later, I am still recieving Christman cards from that cook, who is now retired.

Tafelspitz is actually served like that at most more pricey places, so a la plachutta doesn't really mean anything here, also, I wish you would do a version of this for streetfood and kind of more everyday food as well (so two vids per city). In Vienna it would be the amazing Swing Kitchen Vegan Burger Place and Leberkässemmel (a roll with a sort of meatcake type thing, it's kind of similar but not similar to spam), Blue Orange for a healthy and sustainable Snack, Coffee at Cafe Jelinek and a nice dinner in the Danube Tower (Donau Turm) with a great view of the city in the slowly rotating restaurant.

Why do people insist on cutting through a dessert with the side of the fork? Pierce the corner with the pointy tongs of the fork and it will come away without messing up the whole dessert's appearance.
Good thing most Austrians also speak English fluently to help you show others how to eat.
