    Great info - I've thought a bit about writing simple stories and self publishing just to set some of my pictures in. Super useful - thanks. Love the drawings.

    Thanks for the comparisons. Good videos you got here. Subbed!
    Did you get to try out the KDP hardcover? is it any good?

      Thank you so much! I haven't tried hardcover yet, but I am currently working on a book with a client with the intention of printing hardcover! I'm excited to see how it turns out and I will definitely be making a video about it :)

    Thanks for the video, it does help. I am new to this and just printed one book on KDP. How much you got in royalty from Amazon so far?

    • @EmilyAdeleArt

      Glad I can help a little 🙂
      No royalties yet because I haven't published my own book. The authors pay me for the illustrations and setting up the book and then it's theirs to sell. I will have my own book out very soon though!

    Just curious, are you using the premium paper and color version to print on KDP? I know its a little frustrating when you have a piece return and all the small things start to add up. Unfortunately, your not dealing with a real printer and can't be there for an in person press check. Thanks for all your information, it is very helpful. Don't give up!

      Yes I use the premium. I believe you have to use that to print shorter books (minimum 24 pages).
      Yeah.. While I do wish I had more control, the convenience of KDP is hard to beat!

    Just curious, did you check the box that says “use document bleed settings”? If not, it will not export those bleeds into the pdf. On your video you did not have that checked. I did not end up with any white edges on my book when using those settings.

    • @EmilyAdeleArt
      @EmilyAdeleArt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could have done it that way but my document bleed settings were different from what I wanted to export. In other words, I didn't check the box because I wanted to use the modified bleed settings shown in the video. When I check my pdf the bleeds that I have typed here have been included otherwise I wouldn't have gotten that inner bleed I was going for. But thank you for checking!

    That was very helpful, thanks
    Can you tell what ICC color profile you use in your document for KDP
    I am using coated fogra39, but so far not so good.

      You're welcome!
      Everything is CMYK.
      For the board book I used Japan color 2001 coated per Print Ninjas instructions.
      For KDP I used U.S. Web Coated.
      Definitely defer to whatever site your using to print for the right setup. It might be hard to find sometimes but the info is usually there somewhere.

    On Procreate I can only draw in RGB and I know for print it has to be converted to CYMK and it makes the illustrations look dull. Do you know of any way around this issue?

    • @EmilyAdeleArt
      @EmilyAdeleArt ปีที่แล้ว

      When you create a new canvas (the plus sign at the top right of procreate) you should see at least one canvas option that is in CMYK. Or you can make a custom canvas by clicking the little black bar with a plus on it next to the words "new canvas". You should be able to create a custom canvas size, dpi, color profile and all that good stuff from there.
      Hope that helps!

    you added the bleed on the inside, but it seems like it still didn't fix the issue, since there are still white stripes on the new book...
    currently struggling with the same problem

    • @EmilyAdeleArt
      @EmilyAdeleArt ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck!
      The white space in the gutter all depends on how well they glue the book together so not much I can control there. I've added .125 to all sides of all pages to keep illustration from being lost in the gutter and I haven't seen any white strips on the outside of pages in a while so maybe that is working but not super sure.

    what happens if i print in RGB ?

    • @EmilyAdeleArt
      @EmilyAdeleArt ปีที่แล้ว

      Most sites won't let you upload files that are the wrong color profile. They'll tell you you have to convert it to CMYK. But if you do the colors of everything could just be really off.

    Did you design in RGB or CMYK?

    • @raeriques
      @raeriques ปีที่แล้ว

      You should illustrate in CMYK because it’s going to be printed.

      I illustrate and export in CMYK for all printed projects, but I also export in RGB for ebooks and portfolio posts
