Great video. Last point is the best because the riding community is I think one of the communities with the most kind, open and helpfull people of the world and that shouldn't be destroyed
I have found the community to be real friendly and helpful to this crazy looking, old man noob. One thing I’ve learned is...stoke, flow, and confidence are key.
I tip I use with teaching tricks to others is that you didn’t learn a trick till u can do it multiple times in a row. Don’t practice till you get it right, practice till you don’t get it wrong. Like people say yea I got barspins and I’m like ya did it twice you don’t know them u just did it a few times.
I have riding since Father’s Day 2020. I’ve watched hundreds of videos on TH-cam since that day and ridden at least one hour per day “ when I’m not injured” I feel after watching your video ‘s my progression is going to dramatically change tomorrow. If you’re ever headed to Thousand Oaks California hit me up and I’ll meet you there ! Sapwia bike park. Check it out on you tube. I’ll let you know how tomorrow goes for sure also !! Thanks man
loved it nick thanks ! i can jump dirt jumps, pump track etc but I ant air out 1/4s.. love it if you did a video a how to..im 48, airing out a 1/3 pipe is my final goal but i cant pull the trigger and acually air our.please help..
Yo great vid I started riding bmx 5 months ago and after about two months it clicked in my head and I was like wait I’m not actually scared of crashing anymore cause I had fallen so many times it’s just didn’t hurt anymore and I’d had seen this vid when I first started I would’ve progressed faster than I have but great vid and hope people take what you say and use it
Yeah of course, I've been riding bmx 15 years, and out could even get a longer top tube if you wanted, you kids don't even realize how lucky you have it now a days with how bikes are, they are literally sooo much lighter, when I started riding the lightest BMW bike was in the mid 30lbs range, the weights generally ranged between 35lbs-44-lbs, so just imagine how impossible it made doing everything, just watch old footage from the early 2000's and realize it's on bikes that heavy and they are the ones to event all of the tricks on street you see nowadays back than!!! Literally almost impossible with bikes like that. All bmx bikes weight between the lower 20's to no more than the high 20's lbs but really most bikes now are between 22lbs-28,29 lbs, weight is the biggest factor on how easy it is going to make riding. With your height a 20 inch is perfect you could even ride a 20.25 top tube, I'm 5,11 and ride a 21inch top tube w/ a 13.55 and a 75 degree head tube (cult bad boy frame if your interested in the specs, which will start to date me, I literally got the first one made and this was the first production frame by cult and it was made by fbm, I live on the east coast hence why fbm, the west was solid bikes who made the frames for cult when they first made their first frame/parts, and I had already been riding for y years at that point, a bunch of my friends a pro currently to give some more perspective and they are on the older end of the scale for a pro bmxer) I also have 180mm crank length which you can't even get anymore since everyone ride small crank length now which I hate personally, I prefer the benefits from long crank arms, that's one thing I don't like about newer parts, the large bars are amazing for you 8.5-8.75 would be a good height for you maybe even a 9inch max height but most likely the other two shorter would seem to be better for your height. The rear end length matters a lot for myself the 13.5 is perfect for me as I find shorter to unstable and my foot hits the pegs ( i ride 4) built with your height a 12.8-13.25, I'd say a 13inch would be perfect for you. Your very lucky to be starting with awesome bike technology bc I started riding at 13 and by the Ike I reached 18-19 I was riding a professional level, I have the proof actually, like I said also I still have friends/ know a bunch of pro's both still riding and those that have stopped bc they are too old are just got to broke off (that's usually the quiet killer in bmx, which you will learn, you'll just see pro not mentioned anymore basically disappear in bmx media and that's usually code for the rider has just gotten hurt so bad so many times that this last injury was the one to break the camels back so to speak meaning, that bc of all the injuries they are no longer able to ride at the level they currently are riding so it's usually better off to call it quits when you still look cool w/ the work you've put out instead of letting the level of what your able to film go down hill slowly, aka a slow burn, which is never a good look, hence you see the former most often, a bmxer will quietly leave his sponsors a lot of times since they do not feel like they should be sponsored any longer as I just explained. So yeah I hope that was helpful if you have any questions feel free to ask, oh man I'm jealous wish I was your age with bmx technology where it's at now, it would have made learning everything so much easier and quicker! So be grateful for how lucky you kids have it nowadays with the technology in bmx! Cheers
i ride street everywhere and i learned everything flat/street do u think a freecoaster when i can afford 1 would be helpful or it’s the same as buying an expensive bike with no skill
Alex Metallinos I just got my first freecoaster at 32. Been riding (mostly racing and dirt jumps) since I was 13. They definitely help with doing tricks and landing fakie. Just be prepared for the slack if you’ve only been riding a cassette hub.
first one should be wear a helmet, im mtn biker tho at first i didnt wear one but like 3 months after i started to wear one it saved me many times especially on enduro trails lol
I actually really liked this video! I was actually hoping you’d keep going with more tips/mistakes.. the only thing I have to say that distracted me was you kept doing the same thing with your right hand lol but that’s like a public speaking thing that’s not a big deal what so ever.. but I just found your vids today and I gotta say I’ve enjoyed everyone so far! Keep it up
Thanks for watching! What is another beginner video would you like to see?
1. Learn basics
2. Run what you brung
3. Brakes save lives
4. Send it!
5. Proper etiquette
Got it! 👍
Haha brakes do save lives! Perfect summary
I’m 52 years old. Old enough to be this guy’s father. And I learnt so many cool things with him. Thank you buddy
The Scooter kid in the background haha
im a beginer trying to learn how to do tricks and i just want to let you know you smashed this video keep it up
Great video. Last point is the best because the riding community is I think one of the communities with the most kind, open and helpfull people of the world and that shouldn't be destroyed
thank you! glad you liked the last point. it really is like a family and a way of life, so we all need to stick together and have a lot of respect!
@@NicHilton exactly and that's why we all have so much fun

byfar the most practical & downright truth to progression. Rad edit!
10:21 that Tbag was clean
Respect is key...in every life situation. I have mad respect for anyone who gets out there and tries, regardless of result.

yeah that is true, some tricks it can be really hard to do over and over, but definitely if you can then do it over and over everyday.
Nic Hilton yea like I don’t count that I can 360. I can get them 2-4 times out of ten and that’s not enough for me
i think with bar spins brakes making catching the bar a higher chance of jamming your fingers
A tip you missed: making up excuses to not ride.
oh yeah thats a good one for sure! and one that Everyone is guilty of. not just beginners!
is rain an excuse?
@@CopperHeadProjects I’m sorry but if you live in a place where it’s normally rainy, no but otherwise maybe
@@NicHilton is 110 degree weather an excuse?
@@emersonsutliff1751 oh yes 😂 keeping my ass inside

I think that pumptracks are a good place to learn basics.
Good, sensible tips. I’ll sub; even though I’m more MTB, these all seem to apply.

I ride for shredoptics and they have some, but if you want a cheaper option look into the shadow conspiracy pads

Will not blame the weight of my bike from now on.
It was a good excuse while it lasted, must admit that.
And helmets makes you more confident and just go on with the crash.
Riding MTB without brakes ist the worse feeling ever, i do it right now cause I don't have a brake and I hate it so much😂
