    The 0-60 performance would seem to put it a fair way down perhaps 4th, behind 345,395 and 380 classes. Accelerating beyond 60 mph to 100 mph ? There is one undisputed master at that 😀

      Solomon Clarke nah third rail powered trains are slow to 60 mph. 70 seconds seems to be the usual.

      Solomon Clarke I remember writing that 10+ years ago. I wasn’t a driver then 😄. What I would say is that the video only started when the train was already doing 10 mph (+8 seconds) and the start from Teynham to Sittingbourne is downhill. (+10 seconds) so it was 60 seconds to reach 60 I think if it was a level gradient.

      Solomon Clarke the 360 takes around 50 seconds for 0-60 but the 331 and 755 are definitely fast !

      Solomon Clarke i certainly am now - and I’m a coach driver too. So the 465s in my Swanley video were 465/0s with the hitachi traction package. They are definitely poorer at higher speeds yes. Departure from both st Mary cray and Swanley is on a downhill gradient. I was a conductor back then. Not sure what 465 was in my video. I don’t really take down numbers. But the acceleration figure is usually from a standing start up up about 20-25 mph. It slackens off a lot after that.
      The 331 is fast only as a 3 car. As a 4 car it’s in the 40+second range. The 755 3 car is indeed very fast.

      Solomon Clarke unfortunately no. Not many places with a level start to reach 60 in a 376 on the routes it operates on.

    The Thameslink Class 700/0 8-Car is bit quicker than the 12-Car Class 700/1. Have you done Great Northern Class 717.

      Is it? I would have thought the more cars, the more traction motors but oh wells and I think 717s have quicker acceleration but I could be wrong

      @samuelitooooo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bb-3653 Nah, not all cars have traction motors. In fact across the 8-car and 12-car versions there seems to be a 50% motorization rate, with four and six motorized cars respectively.

      @@samuelitooooo yeah sorry man I've realised that now. I realised 8 cars have 4 motored cars similar to the ratio of networkers when they have 2 motor cars reletive to 4 carriages , so its 50%of the carriages that are motored. I think the 12 cars have 50%too , i could be wrong. 12 cars have two motored carriages in the middle that are attached together. So I have realised the same as you!! Good eye man !!

    2 minutes and 15 seconds (2:15) from 0 to 99mph. That is pretty impressive for a massive train!!!

    • @railperf

      Actually achieved in a shade under 2 minutes! Lots of electric motors help - the joys of distributed traction over a locomotive!

    wait 6:16 did the speedometer glitch out or it actually went from 45 mph to 99 mph in like 5 seconds

    Was the vid in real time? Like, St. Albans to W. Hampstead in 12minutes?!! (17 miles). On a school outing we went on to St. Albans (55 years ago) from Hendon it took hours!

    So 0-60 in 45 seconds comes out to nearly 0.6 m/s². Not that impressive IMO.
    I can't find information on the reported acceleration of the Class 700s. Is it not 1 m/s²?

    • @ihatealgebra2431
      @ihatealgebra2431 ปีที่แล้ว

      I asked ChatGPT and it said 1.7m/s^2, which is a lot more impressive than in the video

    • @epender
      @epender ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ihatealgebra2431That can't be right, the fastest acceleration I typically see when I look at specs is around 1.3m/s², 1m/s² is probably more realistic.

    • @epender
      @epender ปีที่แล้ว

      Well most of the acceleration happens at low speeds, often acceleration figures are only the max acceleration experienced at the start of movement or the acceleration which can be maintained under a speed of 30 mph for example.

    • @ihatealgebra2431
      @ihatealgebra2431 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@epender Well, in a video Class 700 accelerated from 0-20mph in 3 seconds. Which is estimated to be 3.7m/s^2. Siemens spec states the maximum acceleration at the start, not the prolonged acceleration until 90mph or 100mph

  • @Sh4wnTaken
    @Sh4wnTaken 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Woah woah woah, I thought the highest speed limit was 90 mph

    • @railperf
      @railperf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No 100mph is the maximum speed permitted for Class 700's and 125mph for HST's and Class 222's

    • @transportflick923
      @transportflick923 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EliteSpecialist 90mph on the Brighton Mainline DC maybe.

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@transportflick923 yeah a the brighton mainline is 90mph, but this train is permitted for 100mph. When it goes to its assigned stations north of london they reach 100mph probably more on that line. But the trains permitted max speed is 100. I'm not sure why Brighton mainline is limited. I think it used to be 100 in the past.
