I was born and raised in South Jersey, 40 years ago I found a button in a local sand pit, it has a gloved hand, holding a saber, and it says...Massachusetts Volunteer Militia around the edges of it. I would like to learn more about it, and would love to know how it ended up in a sand pit in New Jersey!

In "African Canadians in Union Blue" Richard M. Reid documents the thousands of Black British North Americans who fought for the Union including John W. Moore a 22 year old gunsmith who enlisted while residing in my hometown of Dundas, Ontario. Moore was one of twenty-eight Black men from Canada West / East who served with the 54th. He survived Fort Wagner but was badly wounded at the Battle of Olustee on 20 February 1864. Moore was not a slave who made it to Canada via the Underground Railway he was born in Canada.

Fun Fact: During The Vietnam War 🇻🇳 Canadians believed in what the United States was doing in Vietnam! MANY Canadians asked their Government to send soldiers to Vietnam their Government ignored their request so 16,000 Canadians crossed The Border and enlisted in every Armed Forces of The United States! One was even a Recipient of The MEDAL OF HONOR! I only remember his last name Lemon!

I feel like all the statues should be cleaned up because it is still a piece of history. It doesn’t matter what side it was it’s history. Or in fact, put it in a museum to show what it was instead of showing it as a “leader”. This shouldn’t be vandalized. People need a reality check sometimes.
