I’ve always considered myself a very rational person. As an introvert, I like to think before I speak, to weigh the pros and cons, to analyze everything.
But I quickly changed my mind when I started reading Kahneman’s bestseller Thinking fast and slow. Suddenly my own judgment didn’t seem so reliable after all.
In this episode, I share with you some of the most striking lessons from this fascinating book.
I couldn't agree more. Listening to Hugo makes me realize that I understand French way more than I thought I did. The subjects are interesting, and his presentation is perfect.

This is one of the best source of learning French.
I am fascinated with this channel. Extremely interesting and intelligent themes are discussed here. I speak a Latin language (Portuguese) and had not much previous contact with the French language before. After listening to 3 or 4 podcasts here I am able to understand 80, maybe 90% of the words and a 100% of the message. This is a fantastic channel to learn French. I will surely keep listening to it and I will learn French. Thank you VERY MUCH!!! You are an amazing person and excellent teacher!!! 🇧🇷❤️🇫🇷

Having watched like 15 more videos from this channel, I now know 90-95% of the words he speaks and understand the message fully. I think I'll move on to a harder podcast soon enough

je m'appelle Abbas j'ai 22 ans et je suis Afghan,je suis de puis huit mois en France et j'habite en ce moment dans le jura à lons le saunier c'est une petite ville qui est magnifique.
Je veux dire qui votre podcasts sont très utiles pour moi,chaques jours panda mon jogging au parc j'écoute votre podcasts et grâce à votre podcasts je comprends chaque jours plusieurs mots français.
Je pense que le français c'est une langue très bon et j'aime beaucoup apprendre le français le plus tous possibles.

On my serpentine road to French competency in terms of reading, speaking and listening I found the reading of the language came quickly, not understanding every word, but getting the gist. The speaking came after some time; the secret for me here was to lose the self-consciousness in speaking a foreign language. The final piece that took the longest to fall into place was listening; hearing and understanding natural, everyday conversation at normal speed. It’s always a work-in-progress; all language learning is, even with our respective mother-tongues.

Is that possible for you to make some lessons where you speak as fast as usually french people do. Like a street language. Because I live in Paris and can't understand people as easy as I understand you. Thanks a lot and bonne courage!
I listen to his podcasts at 1,5 speed, maybe it will help you. He speaks slowly because it is designed for those who are learning French, so in your case I would suggest watching interviews, real life programs, listening to radio...
J'adore votre podcasts. Pour le premiere fois, je me sens que je peux comprendre le francais, finalement. Bien sur, quand j'ecoute a France 24, ce sera encore tres difficile mais c'est aider pour renforcer la confiance. Merci.
Eight months later with around three hours of practising French every day and I'm still rubbish at it. I still can't understand normal spoken French. I've put in over a thousand hours of French practice now and I can't understand it or speak it. I'm just rubbish at languages, I guess.
Have you listened to and read along "dialogues en français" youtube videos? There are hundreds of them and very good for us to follow along.
The other tip is to make a video of yourself speaking for one or two minutes every SINGLE day. Don't skip, just talk about random things for just a minute or two. No need to be long. Of course, the longer the better, but everyone can talk for a minute or two without a lot of preparation.
its alright, think about all the french people who have been learning english since primary school and still struggle to speak it. You just have to keep listening. Tv shows in french are different to these kinds of podcasts, if theyre made in french then theyre full of french slang and abbreviated words, and if they're french dubbed then they have to speak fast/slow depending on how the character's mouth moves. a lot of people who are at an intermediate level struggle to understand french tv shows. French news is quite advanced too as they speak quickly and use big words that we don't use in day to day life. Just try and work on getting to a conversational level in french.
Thank you for the words of encouragement! It feels like a long time ago since I wrote this. I've been busy learning French every day since then and I can speak it at a basic conversational level now :-D I use Italki nearly every day to practice speaking with French natives. (I can't afford to actually go to France at the moment so it's the next best thing.) French is the first language I've ever tried to learn and it's such an amazing feeling when it feels like it's finally coming together - I can't describe it. It's so motivating! France 24 is still too fast though!
SpiderFromMars thank you! I will check that app out. I find that I’m able to have conversations easily with my friends. sometimes I will make mistakes with grammar or vocabulary but that’s okay. I still find France 24 too fast but to try and help that I’ve been listening to these podcasts at 1.5x speed and i find that helps me to get used to faster french. Maybe it’s something you want to try? If you find 1.5x too fast then you could try at 1.25x.

Pour faire la liaison de remerciement à Italie et France, j'ai une petite histoire. Quand nous étions (m'a copine et moi) à Milan et cherchaient la place ou on peut manger. Enfin on l'a trouvée et, rentrant à restaurant, la personne de resto nous a dit: Sorry, close.
Nous étions stupéfiants. J'ai commencé à exprimer pourquoi c'est fermé si je vois les gens qui mangent et les places libres...
Bon ce mec a appelé la maîtresse de ce resto... Après quelques instants la madame est arrivée.
J'ai commencé encore fois à exprimer ma position)) Ella m'a dit: "je ne comprends pas l'anglais".
Bon, super on va parler en français je me disais...et ça a marché ! On a continué en français...elle m'a dit que resto est fermé ou la pause qch comme ça parce c'est mi-jour...
Mais elle nous a dit: "Vous serez nourris parce que tu parles français!" )))
Alors ça a été mon premier fois quand la langue français m'a sauvé :))

C’est vraiment un bon podcast je suis heureux de l’avoir trouvé dans spotify et depuis ici. mais la probabilité d’obtenir pile à la suite n’est pas la même que les autres combinaisons, la probabilité est P^n, où: P = probabilité de pile dans la première fois, n = le numéro de lancements.
I can understand Hugo at about 60-70% but majority of other channels I can’t ? Is it the more prominent use of slang or my vocabulary is simply insufficient ?

J'ai découvert que mon System 1 peut être en petit peu défectueux 😂🤣
Au debut, tu parle des stéréotype et que les statistique nous contradisent. Mais je ne suis pas sûr si tu utilise les stastique correctment. Par example, une personne en france et probablement francais, non? Maintenant, si vous êtes en Paris et vous voyez quelq'un qui fait une visite dans une group, c'est peut-être plus probable qu'elle n'est pas francaise. Donc quand tu es en métro, l'homme qui porte une beau costume es plus probablement docteur que les âutre personnes dans cette métro, n'est-ce pas?

En Russie on dit que le Français est la langue de Voltaire et Molière. 😉 Et "revenons à nos moutons" est une cite de Molière, en Russie nous utililisons cette frase beaucoup 😁
