Steve demonstrates the infamous "Late in the Evening" groove, derived from the Mozambique. Excerpted from his "Master Series: Mission from Gadd" DVD. More information at HudsonMusic.com
The thing that amazes me about people in general is “they” say o well that’s easy to play . The part that people are missing is that this man came up with the idea to play it which totally blows my mind . How the hell do you come up with a beat like that ???
The one is played by the bass, and without that you can't really lock onto this groove The groove makes no sense without that one which is cascara doesn't play... so the foot it feet play that. It's completely integral to this and other Latin feels
I'm a drummer and that was just a dumb video 2 sticks didn't make any difference at all Sorry I didn't get it. I like the beat but don't understand about the 2 sticks!
Listen to it more carefully, there's very small kind of "flams" between each pair of sticks who gives a kind of "uncertain" placement of the groove's notes, resulting in a incredibly swinging pattern. This idea was a total genius thing.
The little variation at the end-- is the most important part and supports the 3

Pure genius. Simple yet complex. Total wizardry.
How many drummers do you need to change a lightbulb?
20.
One to change it and 19 to stand around and argue how Steve Gadd would have done it...
You're norwegian right?
Steve Gadd playing it slow so us mortals can try to understand what’s happening ❤️❤️❤️
WTF Beautiful Steve Gadd one of the best drummer in world !
That is outstandin. Love the Mozambique.
Besides the sticking and the actual patterns, it’s those little nuances of musical tone-that are so Steve Gadd-which sets him apart from the others.
That is orchestration at its finest!
How can anyone put thumbs down for this man he's absolutely brilliant
I thought the same thing. They're clueless...

Infamous? I think not.
Yeah sure. Play it up to tempo.
If I see any more greedy mcgreedy political ads I'm gonna vote against the person who paid for it.
"song"? I thought song meant to be sung vocally, and tune to be played instrumentally. well, it's not that important, I guess 😁
He lost me at up to tempo... I was dragging.. Immediately
Apart from his inhuman musicality, he did not respect the microphone stand very much
