    This is a gem of a movie. It rivals "It's a Wonderful Life" to me. Wish my Mother and I had seen it together when she was alive, but I believe she did see it at some point in her life. She often spoke of Claudette Colbert and Joseph Cotton. I was very surprised to see Shirley Temple. It takes me back to a time that I wasn't here and could see life as my Mother was growing up in a very difficult time when the country was struggling. From the script to the incredible actors to the music and the realistic set, I am so thankful that I found this and definitely think it is one of the greatest films of all time.

      Are you aware that this is a movie, a fantasy story? It doesn't reflect life in general at the time it was made.

    • @alewicke
      @alewicke 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@heidemonteith My parents lived through all that. I've heard all the stories. My uncle was killed in the war. His unit was the Bloody 100th Bomber Group, memorialized in the recent miniseries "Masters of the Air". Kids then lived through losing family in the war, contributing to the war effort and living frugally because people had to do without as materials went to soldiers, sailors and marines. Kids today can't live without anything and their causes and beliefs are childish and selfish. Americans are spoiled now. There is no thinking of anyone but themselves. Do a little Googling about how many died in WW2. Everyone knew someone who died. The kids in this movie are representative of real kids and the real hardships they went through. Yes, it's a movie but, it depicts the real experiences of the real people who "keep the homefires burning".

    Shirley Temple still had that cuteness 😊
    Claudette Colbert (mother) always reminded me of Jane Wyman must be the high cheekbones 😊

    Jennifer Jones and Robert Walker were married when this movie was being. Whilst they played the romantically involved couple in the movie, offset they were going through a divorce.

      She did "The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer" with Cary Grant and "Mr. Belvedere Goes to College" with Clifton Webb, plus several others. She kept making movies until she was 22, then quit in 1950. If you Google "Shirley Temple movies" you can find a list of all the movies she made.
