This is really an interesting illustration, I never saw "textures" like that (the brush ones) used on a drawing in illustrator, also the work on the shadows, the colors, the drawing style too is special, really well made ! I absolutely love illustrations made on illustrator, but it always takes alooot of time, can't imagine how much this one took. Hope I can reach this level soon to have something pretty to show on my portfolio 😊 Thank you for showing it, I could learn a few things even if it was speedy I still managed to understand them
Awesome video tutorial! Thank you very much for sharing your skills and the most important, your sketches and color palettes, because this is a very cool way to practice on your idea and compare the result. Very very helpful! Thanks again, cheers from Greece, Greg.
can you make tutorial about sketching? I'm feeling confuse when I try to sketch something, I have watched a lot of reference about Flat 2D design, but it's still confusing when I try to sketch..
You can turn it on by going to View -> Show Gradient Annotator. So when you select Gradient Tool (G), that gradient line will be displayed automatically.
@@cricketdesign thank you so much for the reply, especially since this video was almost two years ago, not many TH-camrs will reply, and for that, I will subscribe to your channel for sure :)
I dont know why to me the shadowing doesn't work like that.. it makes it black and white and not like a shadow from the color underneath... is it like because of the new illustrator version or I'm just doing something wrong.. I followed all your steps :') you'll probably never answer me since this is a 3y old video but we nerver know..
the original color of shadow is black (gradient color with adjust of opacity 20:19 ) and change blending mode to Soft light. Make sure your color mode is RGB
Based on the purpose, for Instagram I usually use 1:1 and 4:5 ratio. You can customize it a little bit as long as the main content of your illustration is not cut off too much. And this illustration size is 2400x2800.
@@cricketdesign and how did u dealt with two problems that most beginners face like raster affects whenever i convert my ai file to png and tryin zoom it it was pixelating blurry u know and second problem was there is lot of color difference between the png file that i posts on instagram and the actual ai format view in illustrator colors were more brighten mainly natural as it was in illustrator i ve searched a lot but couldnt find the solution can u please tell me the solution i know ur workprocess is professionally accurate but when u started illustrating maybe u faced this problem too. btw i love the texture and color composition keep up :)
@@maxspencer6763 Here's my workflow and setup may be helpful for you: 1/ I always double or triple my illustration size. Ex: Recommended Dribbble size is 1600*1200. I'll double the size of my illustration to 3200x2400. 2/ If you want to post on digital, make sure your color mode is RGB. 3/ Using sRGB color profile (not AdobeRGB).sRGB is the standard profile for digital images. I personally found sRGB was the best color profile for the most accurate colors on digital.
Just downloaded your brush pack, and I can't seem to reduce the size of the brush to what you've shown in your video. The bracket keys '[' don't work; the only way I can do this is by individually selecting each stroke and reducing the size. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thank you for downloading! In Illustrator, you can't change the size of brushes by press [ or ]. In the video, I only select each stroke to change size or change stroke size first
I'm having trouble with the shades, I'm doing the stuff with the pathfinder but the shade affects other layers even if I rearrange them sending them to the back.... Help :( I also can't understand how can you apply the compound shape without copying and pasting the initial shape where you want to apply the shadow. :)

I still don't understand how you add texture , i only see you use click button draw inside.
It's simple. Using the brush tool (B) to make a texture brush stroke. "Draw inside" mode is just used to mask
