I've heard a few people cover this now, testament to the magic in Matt's lyrics and the glorious arrangement of the original, but I think this one translates best. All hail The National, but Zach, Kanene and Brian breathe a whole new life into this, it's just fucking beautiful.
Can't agree but it sure as hell ain't bad, so I can't blame you for thinking that. That's music though, we all have different opinions; nothing wrong with that!
I noticed they are coming to the Yarmouth drive in so I decided to look up the band see if it would be worth going.. I listened to about 6-7 of their songs and this is my opinion: Lead singer has an amazing voice, band is great it’s nice smooth music easy to listen to BUT the lyrics to almost all the songs is not good.. need a new songwriter.. when I listen to songs from Janis Joplin and Lynyrd Skynard it’s not just the music and their voice that puts me at ease it’s the lyrics.. the lyrics is what we remember and we sing along with.. so with all this group has going for them it’s a flush down the toilet when you think I’m gonna sing along with “little pink rabbits” which isn’t a drink I’ve ever even heard of so who is gonna relate to a song about a drink that sounds like it came off the sitcom of Roseanne ?? Get a new songwriter .. good luck..
This is a cover of The National song of the same name. I'm not sure what in the lyrics doesn't connect, as I too have never had a pink rabbit (The National has said they're white Russians made with strawberry Nesquick) but I connect with the loss and confusion of a sudden breakup that is the crux of the song. However, you can't judge the Lone Bellow on this song since it's a cover. If you find other original songs and don't like them that's fine, but it's not fair to judge them on the lyrics of a song they didn't write.

This song has always opened up some space inside my chest and everything rushes in. I love The National, but...I love this version so much too
.
I keep coming back to this..
So happy this is being cut on vinyl now!
Wish they kept that going at the end. Guitar sounded great!
You are the best people in North America. We love you forever
"You didn't see me, I was falling apart." Painfully beautiful. Love this :) Thank you and congrats!
Two of my favorite bands. What a nice Tuesday morning surprise. Thanks guys!

wooah, this is incredible
I love the tenor resonator. I've got an Eastwood that's basically a solid body with resonator.
Phenomenal cover. Thanks for sharing.
Just purchased the latest EP. Have them all now. Love it
It's just so good...

Excellent! See you at Levon's and again in Northampton!!! Two weeks in a row!
Great cover! Minor thing, but it’s “a needle in a doll”

please do something off of boxer. this is so good.
Potentially unpopular opinion: this is better than the original.
im a huge national fan however I agree with this statement. imagine if they did something off of boxer....
I think we need them to cover every The National song
No it isn't.
