My brother lived Gekko Kamen. I think it channeled his persona for life. My older brother dressed up pretending to be Gekko Kamen. Michael is in his SuperHero persona as Japanese Superhero Moonlight Mask (月光仮面, Gekkō Kamen) (a.k.a. The Moonbeam Man)[1] is a fictional superhero that has appeared in Japanese tokusatsu & anime television shows & movies. Best explained to westerners as Japan's answer to The Lone Ranger, Batman & Zorro. This SuperHero was armed with a whip, two six-shooters, shuriken (ninja stars) & moon-shaped boomerangs & rides a motorcycle. I guess most boys fantasize about being Super Heroes. The Avengers, Superman, Batman, Thor are all proof of that. A little side note on Michael, when he grew up his first professional job was at Dupont. But when the plant caught on fire & burned down, Mike saved 7 people from the fire. He volunteered as a Paramedic at the time which helped him during this fire. Afterwards Dupont was going to rebuild in South America & he opted not to go there. I think that was what happened with the plant afterwards. Anyway, my brother switched professions & became a Firefighter / Paramedic that also did underwater rescues as a Master Level Scuba Diver. And at the same time, Mike ran a Dojo as a Sensei teaching Martial Arts. So yes, my brother wanted to be a Super Hero. Kept him in great shape. Growing up, we didn't have much but we loved watching all those tacky black belt theater stuff & cheesy SciFi. I followed him around like a puppy. Memories.......
My father was Air force stationed in Japan. I remembered a hero dressed in white wearing a turban. Even saw a cosplay walking around in an amusement park. On a weird note when we got back June 1959 I saw a newspaper stand in San Francisco that superman killed himself. Of course George Reeves who played superman on TV.
this series had 6 films. the series was by senkosha but the 6 films were toei's first involvement with tokusatsu. yusei oji was a senkosha tv series with 2 toei films.
A little over a decade ago, someone posted a single episode of Gekko Kamen that was actually dubbed into English in the late 50s, but it has long since disappeared. Does anyone still have it?
Gekko Kamen was the first Tokusatsu TV Series in Japan made by Kohan Kawauchi. The show featured a hero who wore a tight white suit and used an white Turban. The hero used a gun and Shuriken as weapons and riding a motorbike which of course inspired Kamen Rider who uses a motorbike as their main vehicle. The show was new and very popular at the time. Until there was a problem that caused the broadcast to be stopped in episode 131 in 1959. As a result, there was a child in Japan who tried to imitate Gekko Kamen's dangerous actions by jumping from a high place until it caused the child's death. This incident sparked protests from parents at that time who considered the series to show dangerous scenes to children who were very easy to imitate various hero actions. Because in the 50s there was no broadcasting commission institution and parental guidance label. In the end, the series returned in anime form 13 years later.
Gekko Kamen is a Middle Eastern style hero. armed with a Shuriken and 2 pistols, and ride a motorcycle like Kamen Rider, made by Kohan Kawauchi, Gekko Kamen's true identity is kept a secret, and in his opening Credit also has a question mark, it turns out the heroic hero is Juro Iwai, a detective who is always lost in a critical situation. when the heroic hero appeared, unfortunately in 1959, the broadcast was stopped because there was one case of the death of a child who tried to mimic Gekko Kamen's fighting style. The film became Controversial at the time, then the masked hero film returned 13 years later
In Mexico we have a classic superhero, with an outfit similar to Gekko Kamen, and I talk about "Kalimán", if you like, find content about him, here on the internet. He is so memorable.

Fun fact: "Gekkou Kamen" was the inspiration for the "Moonlight Knight", Mamoru Chiba's 2nd alter ego during the first 13 episodes of "Sailor Moon R".
I thought Messenger of allah was closer to Moonlight knight in design tbh.
What about moon knight from Marvel

Ironically, the superhero "Kalimán" has Hindu origin.
Its actually arab in origin. Kawauchi was so in to the middle east that he converted to muslimhood after making Gekko Kamen.
@@बाघटाइरवॉ In mexico you have El Capitan Centella who is literally Gekko Kamen but in anime.

This guy is also an example why Power Rangers is bullshit, and a bootleg!
How...? I mean...the acting is awkward, sure, but I don't see how Gekko Kamen has anything to do with proving Power Rangers as a bootleg or bullshit.
dude, they're part of the same genre...Super Sentai is a Sub-genre of Tokusatsu
It's more like why Kamen Rider is a knockoff. If this even is legit.
