I am not kidding when I say this series has the most historically accurate depictions of witches and angels that I have seen.
Witches using their hair as conduits for magic (including demon summoning), and angels being horrifically evil Lovecraftian horror abominations are, indeed, very accurate to mythology and the Bible both.

Shame Capcom did him and Shinji Mikami who both created Devil May Cry and Resident Evil dirty. Would've been nice to see Trish and Dante work together as opposed to her just leaving and rarely interacting out of cutscenes.

Makes sense that Bayonetta shares so much DNA with Devil May Cry, considering the game's director Hideki Kamiya also made and directed the original DMC! In fact, the original team that made DMC 1 were called Team Little Devils, while in Bayonetta, they're called Team Little Angels.
Enzo is literally a DMC character as well. First appeared in the 2002 prequel novel for the first DMC game.

Fun Fact: That short fat guy Enzo is actually a Devil May Cry character. He first appeared in the prequel novels and he worked as an informant for Dante.

@@Heymickeyyousofine To a point they are at least in the same multiverse as one of Dante's alias is actually a contact mentioned in one of the diaries. Now the question is if it is the same Dante from the main games, or another alternate Dante like from Team Ninja's DMC.
@@truekurayami there's also that one official art of Bayo kicking the ass of someone at strip poker... the guy's mostly off-screen, but one of his removed pieces of clothing is a long red cloak draped over one of the other chairs at the table
also, one of the summons Bayo has in this game is just Phantom (the armored spider/scorpion boss from DMC1)... who just happens to be the only DMC1 boss that doesn't appear in DMCV (Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare are V's summons, and Nelo Angelo has enemies that are basically just like him)

In case you're wondering about "Eggman" at the beginning:
It's from a prequel story. Eggman the Destroyer was a major criminal boss and Enzo's only real rival in the area. Bayonetta killed him. No relation to Dr Eggman and the name is a coincidence.

Fun fact: The character designer for Bayonetta was a woman and the developers took heavy inspiration from the fashion industry when creating Bayonetta herself. Too bad you're not playing on the Switch because there are Link and Samus costumes in that version. Luckily there in Bayonetta 2 ( which is only on the Switch ( which has the Nintendo costumes ) and PC ).
Bayo 2 is on PC? Highly doubt it. Also, Bayo 2 is on the WiiU, as well.

I remember when they first revealed this at E3 back in 2009. This game was huge. The look and game play was beyond.. It's still fun and I love the lore. I can't wait for Bayonetta 3

Shame bayo 3 didn't live up to the thematic resolution of the game in terms of story.
Did not expect. Also I have no idea why people say the story is bad. I'd say it's actually really good for the type of game it is. Same for Bayonetta 2's story (even better with how it actually adds to Bayo 1's story too and with how consistent they are). The lore is excellent as well, better than any character action game.
Also fun fact is that the f***ed up way the angels look in this game... is actually one of the most accurate depictions of them in popular fiction. Yes, real angels are meant to look like that.

@@exetone I don't see how. It's a pretty simple story. But you do have to pay attention. The game is fairly subtle about the words used to explain terms and whatnot.

Here's an important tip to continue your combos while dodging: it's called dodge offset. just keep holding the currently pressed button during a combo while dodging, and you will not reset the combo. pretty important for killing angels with style
I am of the opinion that the tutorial is misleading!
With the exception of a few weapons one should ALWAYS hold down the attack buttons, not only for long range.
Makes it easier to not only avoid wildly button mashing but also to do dodge offsets whenever needed.
I wish more hack and slash games had this system or something like it, I am most definitely guilty of overreaching…

I have a surprisingly hard time with dodge offset for some odd reason.

As soon as he made that I knew the game was gonna be a blast.
Music in Bayonetta games has always been phenomenal! There’s always something about the 1st game’s cover of the Jazz classic, “Fly Me to the Moon,” that always feels so full of life! And then the choreography of most of Bayonetta’s moves alongside the music is just perfect! I really need to consider playing the Dante games sometime

Bayonetta is a character that people fall in love with easily for mutiple reasons, you have the obvious ones being the way she moves and the sounds she makes but there are also a lot of people who love her for her character itself

I've always loved how that last set of regular handguns she gets is a clear reference to Ebony and Ivory, lol. On topic though, you're in for a great time, Deebee! Bayonetta takes a little bit to get used to, but once you get the flow of combat down, it's just as satisfying and fun as DMC. Also, fun fact about her Scarborough Fair set: the guns have individual names. They are Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme.
The names of the handguns also correspond to the lyrics of Scarborough Fair.
I'm glad your enjoying the Bayonetta franchise Deebeegeek Bayo can be described in one word, "ICONIC!"
The story get over the head of so many peoples because of "sexy bayonetta being a crazy badass" but the story is quite complex.
It doesn't help that the first exposition dump happen at the same time as the first fight where you try to get a feel of the combat system.
The fact that you started this series (or at least Bayonetta 1) makes me so happy. My favorite male streamer plays one of my favorite games ever for the first time! What a iconic moment.

I'm excited for you you get to play these games. They are really fun to play and dripping with style. Just make sure you explore the environment as there are collectables like health and magic upgrades that you'll need later on as the difficulty does ramp up as the story progresses.
Bayonetta is pure, undiluted batshit insanity - in the BEST way! Its biggest goal is to be shamelessly, joyously over-the-top. :)
Oh, and another detail, Dee, there's hidden collectibles in the levels. Those CD's help you get new equipment. Some are hidden higher up. And there's also collectibles for increasing your mana and health. But you have to find those the hard way.
Hello!!!! Some tips from someone who loves this game. Holding square to shoot is bad, instead you should be holding your punch or kick mid-combo to fire your gun so you can then continue the combo with extra damage from the bullets. Bullets from holding P or K do way more damage, and have more range, and lock on better. You can shoot out of ANY PUNCH OR KICK, and it doesn’t reset your combo. This will get you way better ranks because you won’t be dropping overall combos in fights since you can fight at longer range. BUY BAT WITHIN AS SOON AS IT IS AVAILABLE. Bat Within basically allows you to tank hits if you’re skilled enough to tap evade on hit instead of just before, giving you a second chance to survive.
Also, the fact Bayonetta series is nearly axed after the first game is out due to some internal issues. But Nintendo saved it but in exchange it became a Nintendo IP. Bayonetta 2 happened also has some Nintendo based skins in the games and with overwhelming success and now Bayonetta 3 coming this year.
Now, Bayonetta is in Smash Bros
To this day I'm still waiting for Platinum Games and Capcom to collaborate so that we can see a Devil May Cry and Bayonetta video game crossover! That is my dream fantasy! lol Fun fact if you beat Bayonetta in under three hours in Normal difficulty or higher you can unlock the Bracelet of Time by buying it in Rodin's store for 200,000 halos. If you read the description this is what it says. "Eva, a truly extraordinary witch, entered into a contract with the legendary dark knight, and then faced the amassed armies of Inferno. These bracelets were made by her hand, and those wearing them are said to become true masters of Witch Time at their very will." In Devil May Cry, Dante's human mother is named Eva and his father is the legendary dark knight Sparda. Coincidence? I think not! 🤔🤨😃😈

It's all but confirmed they at least share a Multiverse if not a main Universe, as even Dante is called out in a diary even if it was only his alias, and thanks to the Golden LPs Bayo's weapons are very much Devil Arms just made it a different way.
It's odd to have a collaboration when the original developers of DMC are what Platinum games is today. Just take a look at the panther motion capture animation and it matches Okami 1:1 ratio. Kamiya was the original director of DMC and doing a DMC would have to be a contracted out work from Capcom.

Cute little bit here. New watcher to see your reactions. Currently at 32:38 in the video, where Bayonetta gets her signature guns for the game. The four together, as a set, are Scarborough Fair, yes like the song, and each has a separate name written and can be told apart by their accenting color. Parsely is Green, Sage is Red, Rosemary is blue, and Thyme is white. This follows with Bayonetta 2 as well which is a Nintendo Exclusive now, but for her set in THAT game, the setup for the intro is kind of the same. Stuck with bad handguns until Rodin comes along with her set for the game, which is Love is Blue in the second game.

I'm not an action game fan but love this series very much. The combat and combo of Bayonetta is very enjoyable! Bayonetta 2 is even smoother in terms of gameplay experience. Can't wait for the release of 3. Enjoy!
Being a long time DMC fan, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE BAYONETTA
Still wishing to see them together in a game
Here's some tips since Bayonetta is VERY unforgiving.
Expect a QTE in like, any cutscene, or when a cutscene starts pause for a moment, if you see the option to skip is available, there will be a QTE, if the option is gone, QTE.
As you can see, enemies WILL begin to attack during cutscenes so you have to constantly dodge the moment it ends.
If you enter your Combo list, it looks absurdly bloated, but there are some that helps quite a lot more, namely Punch-Kick-Punch, which is the fastest Wicked Weave (When Bayo summons a big Fist/Leg), or Punch-Punch-Triple Kick for tons of damage.
If you are attacked mid combo, if you keep holding the attack button that you were using and dodge with it held, you can continue your string after a dodge, this is called Dodge Offset.

@@Style_224 Nintendo is the publisher for Bayo 2 & 3 (and even Bayonetta 1 on Switch). Not only that but Nintendo has funded the games (2 & 3) and all rights about these games belong to Nintendo. Although Bayonetta is a SEGA IP.
Bayonetta 2 & 3 are basically first-party games made by a second party dev (PG). Nintendo EPD even worked on Bayo 2 & 3.
I also love Xenoblade and Bayonetta, although I wish I liked XC2.

Watching this again just for funsies. I remember way back in 2009 when a commercial for this game came up; she blasted through angels and I was enamored. I didn't even see her face until I saw the game in store. Starting it up I was in awe and knew I was in love with Bayonetta.
I love Bayo so much! It's a fun game and has great tongue-in-cheek humor. When I saw her first clothing transformation, I knew I had to cosplay her. I've been doing so since 2014 and haven't looked back!
I played Bayonetta for the first time last year. I loved every minute of the game even though I died like 150 times throughout the whole thing 😂 lol
Bayonetta is fascinating because if festishizes Christianity the way most Western media festishizes religions like Buddhism or Hinduism.

- The falling clock face is so iconic to the series that it became Bayonetta's stage in Smash Bros. (Umbran Clock Tower).
- A lot of elements of witch lore went into Bayonetta's skillset - using hair as a magic conduit, summoning demons, association with the moon, even the use of gunpowder (once believed to be an invention of witchcraft).
- Remember, while she's in Purgatorio, the people in the Human World appear translucent in Bayonetta's perspective.
I remember when this first hit the scene and I was all over it! I'm so glad to see people still being introduced to it's awesome campiness! Bayonetta is a goddamn queen. Empowered and sexy, but always on her own terms. Just love it!
Oh, for another detail for you to learn, you can actually TAUNT in this game. Doing so enrages a foe, but also makes them drop more haloes upon being defeated.
I'm SO happy with even just your reaction with her graveyard cutscene. Bayo is simply a goddess and I too fell in love with her from then on. This is the very first video I see of yours, but I'm definitely gonna watch your whole series of this. Bayo 1 is my favorite game to keep replaying and watch people play

Dee, the first Bayo game is really good and has many awesome moments and soundtracks, but after you see Bayo 2, you might not be able to go back to 1. 2 is a MASTERPIECE with all the meaning of the word. Truly, an 11 out of 10 game! Can't wait to see you progress through both of these games!!
Not really, maybe graphic wise but Bayo1 has certain mechanics where its better treated as a 'alternative' to go back to from time to time than a prequel.
For instance, the 'taunt offset' is removed in 2, and gameplay is more reliant on Umbran Climax, Witch Time is shorter.
Its really up to debate which on is better on a more advanced play style. But casually Bayo2 is better.

@@salvadorgalvan3164 you can taunt after a dodge and keep continuing the combo like a normal dodge offset. Its hard to explain but look it up if you want.
@@salvadorgalvan3164 I respectfully disagree. I went up to Platinum in the hardest difficulty, back in the WiiU days and I feel that Bayo2 blows 1 out of the water. I also started counting the hits of the enemies required to kill Bayo in identical situations in both games. In Bayo 2 the frequency of the enemy attacks is higher and the hits required to bring you down are less than in 1. Bayo 2 also has better mix of enemies at the same time, effectively leading to cooler combos and less combo breaks that happen because of the enemies' distance to you or their form (shields, etc). When you break a combo in Bayo 2 it is clearly your fault, while in Bayo1, it usually is the game's fault (enemies fall back, no enemies in the air while you unlock the aerial attacks very early so you go in the air too often, exclusively shielded enemies in the arena, etc...). These things don't happen in Bayo 2. It is a far more streamlined game in every aspect. And the camera... Oh God, the camera in Bayo 1 has autism or something!

Fun fact: Bayonetta's clothes are woven from her own hair, hence why it disappears when she uses wicked weaves or when she's summoning demons
