Am I missing something? We didn’t have Rodri first 4 games. Looked good, created chances, haaland firing in goals. Didn’t we already have a solution 🤷♂️
Tbh, what you've described as a Rodri replacement and needing 2 players, perhaps suggests a larger issue of the rest of the team not being strong enough to cope without him...
The team is definitely not strong enough, the problem is that our quality players are on the decline due to age, and our signings just aren't good enough as of late
@dimphomathabatha2966 my feeling is that perhaps they're more worried about the fallout from the PL investigation and indeed I watched Back Pages Tonight a couple of weeks ago where they discussed a concerning point that hadn't come into the public domain before. Essentially, during the prosecution process by UEFA, one of the main charges had in fact become timebarred. The FA, will not themselves be time barred on this point. I don't recall the details off the top of my head and City also have some leverage themselves of course so on this, we'll just have to wait. However, I think the prosecution process is very likely the reason that Pep has chosen to delay signing a new contract...he said a few years ago that the club assured him of no wrongdoing and followed it up with comments that he'd leave if he thought City had been dishonest with him...imo it's a reasonable explanation for the delay of signing a new contract. Edit...when I said public domain, I meant my consciousness as it was part of the leaked info
Rodri aside, I think Pep deserves some questioning for his obsession with playing Walker. Since he’s been back, he’s either been directly or has shared responsibility for 5 conceded goals in 5 games and yet Pep benches Rico who was doing wonderfully at RB and building a chemistry with Savio, and instead puts ball watching mistake prone Walker on. He was and amazing pamper for the club but he should never be used for big games as he’s proven to be way too much of a liability yet I doubt Pep will do that. I think it’ll be a repeat of last season and we will drop a lot more points due to Walker’s mounting inefficiencies at RB which means the only way to win is to outscore the opponent. This too is a problem as Pep is seemingly setting up teams for control and low creatively while ironically, we lose that control. Something has to change Pep!!!!
@@thuo1000 Oh I see. If I make any observations that are critical of Pep, then we should attack me with the ludicrous fallacious argument of deferring to authority. Sorry man, Pep is not infallible and if you think he is, then you must be a Pep cultist. As for playing players, I am not advocating all the time, however I am advocating that he play the same group on a regular basis to build chemistry with the group like we have in the past (treble season defense for the most part for example). Same with our attack from prior seasons. Think of the 2017/18 or 18/19. I could go on. And we have seen that since then, but what concerns me is that why are we not trying that when it has worked for several games? Specifically this season, out defense? Rico, Dias, Akanji and Gvardiol. Worked great. Then Pep has changed it and it has been problematic since. I could go on. But questioning Pep doesn't mean I hate Pep or want him out or anything. It just means he is not infallible,
@MCFCTheMadHatter Walker should be used as a right sided centre back now, unless against pace. Rico Stones Akanji are better right backs. Without Rodri we need an inverter.
@@michellemaggs75 I can see that. Again, 1st 3 games our defense looked good and balanced with Rico inverting and working well with Savio. But then for whatever the reason, Pep dropped him for Walker and the defense has looked unbalanced since,.
@MCFCTheMadHatter I agree. Plus playing Kovatic and Gundo at the same time is ridiculous. Either one replaces Rodri so two at once risks injury. Especially as Kovatic is supposedly playing with a toe injury. Gundo cost us the game against Newcastle. I would have used Grealish in free role. Gundo for holding mid now. Unless we need a goal second half.
@@michellemaggs75 Fair points 100%. As for Gundo, love him and I think he will come back to the level or thereabouts we are used to. He is getting in the right positions, which is a good sign, but is off with the passing a bit and that decision to NOT pass to Haaland and instead try to dink it over the GK was criminal. But I think as time goes on, Gundo will be in prime Zidane form come the back half of the season lol I am praying, but not holding my breath that City will buy in Jan IF they have any interest in trying to win the PL or even the CL. I think we absolutely need a solid DM as cover who can play in the 8. I would love to get Kimmich (not sure possible) but that guy is great at that position and creative too. Zubi would be good simply for the LFC tears and I still think it might make sense to get a backup striker for Haaland bc I can't see how we can expect him to play 70 games or thereabouts without picking up some kind of injury, be it short term or worse. Of course, a lot will likely depend on the outcome of the 115 which Id imagine should be handed down around that time which could help or hurt what we do tremendously
When Nunes came to City he had his chances and he wasn't good enough. Sure, he scored this week against a mid-table Championship side but Pep obviously sees him play every day in training, so he must not be confident himself...personally he seemed a bit too wasteful and not quite clinical enough. However, this may be his moment to prove it (if he actually gets the chance)
I must say, the challenge now is we can't be a one man team like Spurs without Harry Kane for example .. City and Pep should prove it to everyone .. that we're not fully dependent on one player and if he's gone .. we're lost .. we should be bigger and stronger than that !!
Disappointed with the result, but I’m not too concerned about our season yet. I think we have what it takes to win without Rodri, but yesterday’s starting XI wasn’t it. I think my biggest concern is Walker being named captain again and now forcing Pep to include him as a starter as long as he is fit.
no bro, you don't understand Pep situation now. City basically don't have any steady perfect 11 starter... Savinho-Doku you think are always the best lineup? come on mate, fvck off Doku is not always playing good especially last year and savinho is a new player too, wait until Doku showed those selfish style of player and no end-product with all the inconisistency he potentially do this season let's what you'll saying after that, I mean they're good recently YES I agree BUT, Pep's point yesterday was, much like how Pep invented inverted position for Stones (in Treble season) or...like last year when Foden and Alvarez continuosly tried in KdB position, now Pep need another solution to rely on, and Pep is the coach who doesn't want to be stucked on 1 game plan...even in treble season, do we actually really have a consistent starting 11? NOO...we never been have that, Pep always overthink lots of things (can be good or bad, but we have treble and 4 PL in a row, you obviously can't argue by saying that's always be bad). And again, much like KdB absence last year, Pep is basically never stopped to trying lots of things, it's just the outcome is not as good as expected now we argue about Pep, honestly we don't playing terribly yesterday, somehow I can see what Pep are trying to do with those changes. But...Rodri's absence is much bigger than probably any other injured player in the past, including KdB case, because city have many good alternative, clearly we rely on Foden stats last year. But with Rodri, we don't have anyone who close to his level. We need 2 player on the pitch to deal with Rodri's job.
Football is a simple game-play players in their natural positions and stop overcomplicating it. Just look at Real Madrid; they don’t bother with all this inverted nonsense, yet they keep winning. Pep tends to overthink the basics. Sometimes, it's better to give players the freedom to showcase their natural talent and play off the cuff. What Palmer is doing at Chelsea shows the freedom he’s been given to express his talent, something Pep wouldn’t have allowed at Manchester City. Under Pep, he would have been more of a system player, restricted by tactical demands rather than playing with the same level of creative freedom he's enjoying now.
I'd rather we suffer now than later In the season when things get more serious. We usually click into gear in the 2nd half of the season anyway. We'll be fine. We'll retain the title. We are City and we got Guardiola
Great Video, I have to say Rico has been great, but while I know he wants to play in our midfield, I think he will have to compromise for supporting the midfield from Rb, he is defensively and offensively good, and has a bright future in that position, I just look at our akadamy and players we want to bring in and can't see him getting in over Wright and O'reilly if they take their game to the next level
From day one I’ve thought Gvardiol is the Stones successor. I think if this Rodri injury came in another year or two Gvardiol could fill in the gap just fine. Unfortunately this is a bit too early
To be honest City is not in crisis, Pep is a problem he is creating so much fear to players to a point that they are confused themselves.. this thing of playing sideways, too slow, too predictable is annoying..
We should forget about the title and focus on just making the top four. People might say I’m overreacting, but write it down-we’re going to struggle to secure a top-four spot. Something is clearly wrong with the team, and we've regressed since winning the treble. Despite wasting €129 million on midfielders like Mateo Kovacic (€30m), Matheus Nunes (€50m), and Kalvin Phillips (€49m), there's been no improvement. Yet, fans will still praise the director of football as if he's doing an excellent job. The reality is, that kind of spending should have strengthened the team, but it hasn’t made a difference.
Good post , and I'm glad that someone has finally woken up ...... i said before they signed Kovacic, Nunes and Phillips that they wouldn't improve the team, and especially the last two .... we should only be buying players who are are better than what we already have, and WILL improve the team, whether they play a full match, or come off the bench to effect the game .... and we shouldn't be letting players like Cole Palmer go either .... at the moment, with the form he's in, that looks like a really bad move made by City there.
No one can replace Rodri so we must except that. Start playing Phil foden again will help. Hopefully kdb gets back this week? Nothing to worry about at the mo.
It's time to unleash Nunes. I know he's a different player to the profiles we had before. But we have to evolve. Pep trust Nunes for God's sake. Rico Lewis, should remain as a full back. Lastly, we have gifted team. Pep give positional freedom to Doku and Savio With instruction on tracking back. Against Watford, have you see those fullback sweet deliveries? That's the kind of balls Haaland and Co need to take advantage of. And that only comes when you give Savio and Doku freedom. Last season , Savio played left wing in Girona. What does that tell you ? Give them instructions to ping crosses, pull backs and etc. No nonsense at the box. Only taking opportunities. How. By creating more and more. many clear cut chances.
It's okay to try things but when we're 6th or 7th by the time January comes along then it's time to complain, bud. Nobody is expecting a player as good as Rodri. What we do expect is a squad capable of making up the difference when a key player or two are missing which we apparently don't have anymore. That is a club problem. Not a fan problem.
Drop gun till get back his form let nunes get his tries . Start your wingers . The presence of the wingers has done well for jack he still needs to do more.but I'm.happy with him his progress❤❤
How about everyone try to score whenever u have the chance instead of looking for one guy [ Haaland] all the time 🤨😠😑🤬. others not shooting at all like they are not allowed to score . Barnardo had the chance to score yet he passed it ffs
but...the thing with team with low-block, you can't really randomly shot the ball without a think that "if I shot this it will have big chance to scored" because if the shoot is blocked, it would be an instance counter attack for city as we always have very high defense line, it would be fvcked up if anyone with low capablity of long shot just aiming to score. Of course we need to do more long shots (outside the box), but I think it's a bit complicated to say than done given city's style of playing (demands position ball)
