We got independence at 1991. When this video was made it was 22 years of independence. So it’s the name of the song - 22
The first person who u didn’t recognise - is our president Yanukovich who was the marionette of Putin. Our country decided to choose the path to EU but Yanukovich got money from Russia and said we will unite with them
After it a peaceful demonstration was done on the main square in Kyiv - Maidan. There were only students placed just on the street. But Yanukovich decided it isn’t good and… send police to jail them, beat. Peaceful students! Some of them were killed. And after it our nation raised up and started to fight with president. The whole crowds u see - all people who came to Kyiv to defend our choice. And to add, it was 2014 - the year of annexing Donbas and Lughansk. It was terrible year for our country.
But! Yanukovich has left the country - Moscow helped him and he lives in Russia since 2014. He couldn’t come back - he will be arrested immediately in Ukraine.
Since the February Putin sometimes take out his “pocket dictator” (how we call Yanukovich) and tries to show that he is a real legitimately president. But he is a piece of bullshit who got a lot of money from Moscow and did everything they told him to do. Including to separate Ukraine, close the way to EU

This is Maidan. It took place for about 3 months in the winter of 2013-2014. People did not part all this time. All because the then President Yanukovych refused to sign the agreement on joining the European Union. Students were the first to go to peaceful rallies. They began to be beaten and then all the people realized that it was impossible to tolerate it and also came to the defense of these students. Our people fought for freedom and the right to live in a free democratic state. Everyone was in favor of joining the European Union, and Yanukovych was in favor of political unification with Russia. At this rally, people demanded that the president reconsider his decision to join the European Union. Then the security forces began to beat peaceful people, the first deaths occurred, and then what you saw in the video began. In general, about a hundred people were killed on the Maidan, they are called "heavenly hundred" in our country, by the way, my uncle, my mother's brother, is also among them. He was shot while helping other people get out of a burning house.
After the Maidan ended, Yanukovych fled to Russia, leaving his presidential seat. Ukraine was left without a political leader in a state of chaos. It was necessary to hold re-elections of the president in a short period of time and fix everything little by little, but then Russia appeared, which took advantage of Ukraine's weak position when there was no one in power and occupied Crimea and then started a war in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In this way, the war has been going on in our country for 8 years, and all you see now on the news is its full-scale active stage. If until February 24 the Russians were only in the Donbass and the Crimea, then after the 24th they decided to capture all of Ukraine. But we saw that it does not work for them and will never work. Unlike Russia, Ukraine is a free country that respects democracy, freedom and law.
Maidan allowed us to return to Europe and get on the right path. Unfortunately, we achieve freedom with such great sacrifices. If it were not for this Maidan, there would not be a separate country called Ukraine, with our language, culture and true history. We would be under the complete influence of Russia.
Now Russian propaganda is trying to tell that here in Ukraine there is some kind of civil war and they are going to save our people, but this is not so. We have never had a civil war, now we are completely united around our country and protect it on various fronts. Ordinary citizens fully support the president and the government in this war against the aggressor Russia. We all dream of only one thing, that peace will come and that the Russians will leave us forever. They and I have completely different paths of development. We are democracy and civilization, and they are slaves who worship their king Putin and say that they are not capable of anything, as they consider themselves simple little people.
Thank you for this video! 💛💛💙💙

The events you see here often go by the name "Maidan" (which is the word "Square" from the name of the place in the centre of Kyiv "Independence Square"), but afterwards it was named The Revolution of Dignity. You can find more information about it if you google by that name. It was truly the "birth of a nation" for many of us, who couldn't stay aside, when a so-called then "democratic country" was actually highly manipulated by Russia and making decisions, that did not line up with what most of the people wanted. So they went out in the streets, demanding for the democratic choices to be made. When the government decided to use force against the protesters, that is when things escalated very fast, because thousands came out to protect them. The revolution was successful, but the destabilized situation in the country was then used by Russia - as it was our moment of weakness to external threat - to firstly annex Crimea, then to influence and fuel the separtists movements in the regions, to chop away even more. But ukrainians stood up to that, so a long military conflict was created, eventually leading up to this full fledged war. As you can tell, Russia is an extremely dangerous and toxic neighbour to have...

2:26 on the video protests on the Maidan of Independence square in Kyiv in the winter of 2013-2014, when serious clashes between security forces and demonstrators began. This is another confrontation between the people and the pro-Russian authorities. I doubt that Moscow did not do without a hand there, as it was profitable for them to shake up the situation in Ukraine. And already on February 26, 2014, Russia occupied Crimea.
3:06 Ukraine's independence was declared in 1991, the song is from 2014, 22 in the title is the age of the country.
3:56 this is President Yanukovych, a traitor, a fugitive who did everything to make our country dependent on Russia. It was he who initially agreed to sign the association with the European Union, and then refused and ran away, having received money from Putin, and also stole funds from the state treasury. He and his party pushed the so-called "Dictator's Laws" into parliament, under which he was able to usurp power.
4:40 this is the protester Gavrilyuk, then he became a deputy. The security forces grabbed him at the rally, beat him, stripped him in the -10 degree frost, and abused him.
9:15. a video with protesters on the Independence Square, which gathered 1.5 million citizens from different parts of the country, if not more. Let me remind you, its population is 42.
11:17, in fact, it can be called the beginning of the war, since Russian troops crossed the border after a short time and began the occupation. Moreover, they claimed that it was not them. And already in the spring, they began an invasion to the east, to Donbas. With the help of propaganda from TV and the Internet, they unleashed a war by deceiving the local residents. I can tell you what exactly they cheated on, but it's a long story.
Sorry, I'm through a translator. Thank you for your support.
