Yes, they are different culturally, and can be a bit loud for Brits at times, but in the same breath, us Brits probably come across as stand offish and aloof, almost snobbish to them. 2 very different cultures, but still unified, even if we don't always see eye to eye on things.
Thank you all so much for your amazing support and kindness! I'm so proud of them being so brave to create this video. Cheers to you all! 🤍 Jess (The Mom of the fabulous sweeties) x

I recall having a conversation with an American University friend years ago and his realisation that his nations history did not begin at Plymouth rock and that much of British history was also his history prior to his ancestors departing these shores. After his wakeup call he told me he looked at much of British culture as his, he went on a tour of his British roots and heritage, he said he stopped feeling like a foreigner and more like a relative visiting family.

I guess the saying is true: The English think 100 miles is a long distance, and the Americans think 100 years is a long time 😀
Yes, I thought the same. My home town has Thornbury Castle built in the early 1500's and now a fine hotel and restaurant. Just down the road is Berkeley Castle, built in 1067, with a slightly macabre history, but with a great pub a short distance away.
@bobbybigboyyes I completely understand, but he was meaning is that some of our US churches are only 200 or 400 years old in the United States, not meaning here in the UK. He meant that in the United States our are not as they are here.. They're not that old, so he like seeing the history and everything older here. Thank you for being kind. Cheers 🤍 Jess x

I only found this channel a few days ago. And subscribed pretty well straight away, and watched - and thoroughly enjoyed - several videos from who have already become two of my very favourite TH-cam Americans. But this video has just blown me away. What wonderful, articulate, polite and thoughtful - and quite brave - young people! Such a credit to your parents, as you all are to your country. Totally demolishing the stereotype view that, sadly, so many here have of Americans. You and your family put me in mind of a few years ago, when my wife and I were on vacation in Normandy in early June. A number of other guests at the small hotel were quite young American guys, in uniform. I confess, we were amazed at just how courteous and polite and articulate - and smartly-presented - those young guys were. We said at the time, the US could not wish for better ambassadors. And that they were clearly proud to serve their country, and in turn their country had every reason to be proud of them. Thank you all, for sharing your thoughts with us, and for your positivity towards our own country. You put many of us here to shame.
Thank you very much for all of the kind words. We think they have done well with representing America, us, and themselves. We are glad to hear that you have met Americans that has helped put Americans in a good light. We appreciate your time for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
We appreciate your kindness and support! I will share your comment with Shane and Colette. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
i love history too...usa and british history is connected ,did you know that the american anthem tune is an old british drinking song called "The Anacreontic Song", also your laws are based on common english law,,, also thanksgiving came from english pilgrims who emigrated to usa ,,,,the young lady might be intrested in looking it up
As far as accents go, we say that you can drive 50 miles the accents will have changed 3 times and a bread roll will be called something different (batch, cob, teacake, bap etc.)
Great work guys - so interesting to hear from you. I hope you have a great time while you're in the UK. I'd love to hear what you plan to do when you go home and your Ma and Pa have got their smallholding. And for future bakers, can I just say that home made mince pies (for Christmas) are so much nicer than shop bought ones. Xx (we always sign off with X's in the UK).
This is an area I'm really not expert! With your baking skills, have you tried making pies? They may be difficult. Pies are a big thing over here; not just fruit pies, but savoury pies. There are also Cornish pasties, and scones. And of course, a Victoria Sandwich or Victoria Sponge. I am no cook, but a good cookery book - if it's still in print - is the Good Housekeeoing cookery book. It gives all the standard recipes.
Hi lovely young teen's. Please don't be so nervous. Your doing so well did you know you can book coach trips to different places etc castles London Kent york a good one to visit is duxford air museum just about an hour away plans for school holidays. Have fun
Great point about the age factor !. Comng as 4- 7 year olds for instance there would understandably a lack of appreciation and any genuine understanding of history or tax included or accents etc.
Such a pity you will be leaving us because we admire your family so much. Hopefully once you arrive back in America and settle down, it won’t be too long before you plan to come and see us again.
I know it will be a sad day, but we will definitely come back to visit! 💯 Hopefully we don't leave any time soon. But we don't know what the military has in store for us. You appreciate your support. Have a lovely week ahead. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Firstly, Colette sounds so much like mum/mom!! Some of our history has been 'exported' to the USA, though ours goes back amuch further. It's highly likely that some of your ancestors were from these shores originally. I beleive that President George Washington originated from Washington, County Durham (as it was at the time). Then there are those who crossed the Atlantic on the 'Mayflower'. Add to that the place names that have been 'acquired', such as Washington (DC or State); Peterborough (Cambridgeshire/MA); Boston (Lincolnshire/MA) and many, many others. Another example is that I can go to New York without leaving the UK. How? It's a village to the north of North Shields, close to Newcastle upon Tyne. I could go on!! As Colette and Shane commented, we have a shared heritage and more similarities than differences.
Hello. Jess & Chris, Colette and Shane. Colette UK history / baked goods / sights / accents / sayings // Shane single price, no after sales tax, tips / Scottish Highlands / churches / direct opinions / accents / variety of small businesses . I like Shane's Minot AFB blue top (North Dakota). What is noticeable is how they have very similar mannerisms / looks to the parents. I have been following this channel for just under a year. I also follow US sites such as Jay Leno's Garage / Hey Look Squirrel / Eclectic Beard / It's JPS / Magic Geekdom etc. I like your Christmas tree. I hope you all have a lovely Christmas, and all the best to the USAF ( I like planes, and used to go to lot of air shows in the UK, especially RAF Waddington near Lincoln. A UK expression for something nice is smashing, as a nice day out would be a smashing time, smashing little cafe , smashing or lovely little church or meal etc. Homely has a different meaning in the UK to the USA. In the US it means a bit dated, dumpy, scruffy, but here in the UK it means snug and welcoming, as in a compliment. Your house would be homely (kind and inviting).
Thank you very much for your kindness! We appreciate all the support, and it was lovely to read all of your comment. Shane laughed at his middle school sweater... It's one of his favorites. The RAF is really cool, and getting to experience the aircraft is quite an amazing site. Happy holidays and have a wonderful New Year! Cheers 🤍 Jess, Chris, and Kiddos

Loved it, very natural and interesting, just as a tip should you do any more - -talk it through first write down your thoughts - - I see you used your phone (mobile) why not print out what you want to say and place it by the camera and it should run more smoothly! I mean no disrespect to you it's just a tip a thought . Keep on doing it keep on learning! Well Done!😊
For their first time on camera themselves, I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Also, we like our videos to be true, not rehearsed. We appreciate your kindness and support! I will share with Shane and Colette. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Same language different culture. When you travel you tend to take your culture with you and judge everything from that perspective. It takes a while sometimes for the penny to drop why people say, do, think, different things. It's one of the nice things about travelling. British culture varies from place to place while we share certain aspects of what it is to be British, there are variations in being Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English, Cornish, even London, which people can be highly protective of. Accents, sayings, words can vary as well. On the subject of words, colour, armour, flavour, has a u in it, analyse, paralyse an s, even as I'm writing this TH-cam is telling me I'm spelling these wrong - drives me crazy 🙂 Travelling and labelling, catalogue and dialogue. What is it with Americans and "u"? 🙂
We truly appreciate your insight and love being able to read what you all share with us. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
👍 PS I may have misheard - but we have lots of churches that are more than a 1,000 years old (or the original parts of them, before multiple extensions were added). PPS if you like castles, suggest that you visit the south-west and wales - zillions of them!

Love that you love farmers markets and produce - it doesn't last as long but it is all the better for that! Do you listen to local (ie British) radio? Specifically you youngsters, I'm curious what you think of the music. I recommend BBC Radio 1 for its variety of what's current. Ditto, I guess, for the old wrinklies - do you listen to BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4? I deliberately picked BBC stations because they aren't infested by hideous adverts - I *HATE* adverts! There are plenty of commercial stations to listen to, of course. On that score - I believe terrestrial commercial TV and radio in the UK has many fewer adverts than the US, and they tend to be more entertaining here? What do you all think?
We agree, fresher food, and don't last longer, but we don't have to worry about as many preservatives. We listen to whatever is on. The BBC one seems to be one we find often. Don't know if it's because of reception or content. But we do enjoy hearing what's going around and hear locally. That is something we notice with less advertising. For sure, more in America. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers 🍻 Chris and Jess.
The shops don't have to pay any sales tax on food, anyway, so that keeps the prices cheaper. Also books, travel guides, maps, etc. etc. - all free of tax. Most healthcare finance comes from tax on gasoline. So, in resumé - I don't think our total taxes are much different to yours, and we get health care thrown in for free.!!
This video seems the ideal place to mention some things that will greatly help you, Colette and Shane, to not get in to trouble with British friends your age. I know Colette is going to an American school on base, but if she is out shopping in a mall in Norwich or London, for example, do NOT ask your friends if they have their fanny pack/fanny bag. NEVER, EVER use that phrase outside your home or off base. If you see an old dear trip over and she lands on her bottom do NOT ask if she has a sore fanny. Shane, if you see a pretty girl at school, don't say to your mates that she has a really nice fanny, especially if you are talking to her brother. I think this covers most of the dire mistakes that you might make. I'd love to hear what you think of British people's teeth and old men's grooming standards re nasal hair and eyebrows ...
Thanks for the important etiquette lessons. Don't want to get them into a situation they don't need to be in. The English standards you asked about....well, they are different than what we think, but that doesn't mean there's not a lot of Americans that do that. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers 🍻 Chris and Jess.
It would probably be helpful to your American viewers to explain that when you said "Higher" you were actually saying "Hi-Ya" Kind of like the American greeting of "Hey" Ya'll
💯 agree, but it was their first time, and we wanted to let them do it they way they were comfortable. We appreciate your kindness and support! I will share with Shane and Colette. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Well done but if you're going to bake anything or even cook something beware of the measurements and even what you are using to measure with because although we have the same name ie oz , pints etc the British measurements are bigger than American ones so the markings could be wrong ,also any books you're using will be wrong as well depending were they were printed so research before using . An American that has lived a long time has just found out why her cooking isn't as good , all due to the markings on her jugs ( made and marked in the USA ) while using a British cook book that was using British weights ( perhaps you can send a complaint to them 😂😂 Now you why in game thrones the people from Up North talk the way they do .
Thank you so much for your kindness! It means so much to have sweet support. We appreciate your time watching and supporting our family. We will definitely share your comment with Shane and Colette. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family.
i,am so glad you enjoy being here in the united Kingdom, you are more than welcome, you could perhaps stay here for even longer and enjoy it more, what a great idea,(Bobs your uncle) if you catch my drift,
@@steveybabe It's a generalised thing with their generation and the one before. A bit like starting every answer with the word "So". I can always tell when older people work with young people because that is a habit that they fall into. At least they are not saying "Do you know what I mean?" at every verse end! 🙂
They are just teenagers and have not had any public speaking courses. 😉 Would truly like to see how others would do talking to a camera and not use filler words. Shane and Colette have done a fantastic job, and I'm proud. Thanks for the view and comments! Jess

Hiya! Great to meet you both, and hear your views. You are very mature for your years, and a credit to your parents. Your use of English is most impressive, as is your appreciation of our history and culture. It is good to see you enjoying it while you are here. Now you must share the things you are not so happy about, and miss from back home.

@@DaydreamersBarn BTW, you sure don't look old enough to have a couple of teens - I'm jealous. xx

100 to 200 year old churches? We call that a new build.😂
Haha, well, that's old to Americans 😉
Cheers 🤍 Jess x
We appreciate your kindness and support! Thank you so much for this wonderful comment! I will share with Shane and Colette. Cheers 🤍 Jess x

Well Done!😊

PS I may have misheard - but we have lots of churches that are more than a 1,000 years old (or the original parts of them, before multiple extensions were added).

Well done kids , good job 😊

The shops don't have to pay any sales tax on food, anyway, so that keeps the prices cheaper.
Also books, travel guides, maps, etc. etc. - all free of tax.
Most healthcare finance comes from tax on gasoline.
So, in resumé - I don't think our total taxes are much different to yours, and we get health care thrown in for free.!!
Fantastic, thank you for your insight. We appreciate your time watching and leaving a comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x

An American that has lived a long time has just found out why her cooking isn't as good , all due to the markings on her jugs ( made and marked in the USA ) while using a British cook book that was using British weights ( perhaps you can send a complaint to them 😂😂
Now you why in game thrones the people from Up North talk the way they do .

Why cant Americans speak without saying "like", every ten seconds?
Thanks for watching... Cheers Jess
Yes annoying isn't it?
Well It’s much better than British kids dropping the “C bomb” every ten seconds. You should at least be grateful for that !!! 😜
You seem like nice kids but fgs stop saying like so often.
It's a generational thing I'm afraid. It gets on my wick too.
It's a bit like the way that some people used to say "er ..." to break up their speech.
Great video but see if you can stop saying 'like' every other word. But tks for your wonderful review of my lovely country..
@@steveybabe
It's a generalised thing with their generation and the one before. A bit like starting every answer with the word "So". I can always tell when older people work with young people because that is a habit that they fall into.
At least they are not saying "Do you know what I mean?" at every verse end! 🙂
You've just said it twice in this very short sentence 🙂
They are just teenagers and have not had any public speaking courses. 😉
Would truly like to see how others would do talking to a camera and not use filler words. Shane and Colette have done a fantastic job, and I'm proud. Thanks for the view and comments! Jess
I'm sorry but I couldn't watch your video to the end. The use of the word 'like' was too much
Oh, lord... They're kids come on! Really "like" Grow UP! Like Jess 🤣
