  • EAST LINTON is frequently voted one of the prettiest villages in Scotland and in this video I’ll show you why. You’ll see places that other videos don’t go because as a local I know all the best spots!
The walk starts at the river Tyne on the old bridge which dates back to the 16th century. This was an important route south from Scotland to England because it was the lowest crossing point of the river at that time. The Lynn rocks below make a beautiful waterfall, and a lovely spot for a picnic on a summer’s day. From here you’ll see historic buildings which were mills and mill workers cottages winding up to the main street beyond.
The village centre is full of historic 18th century buildings, most of which are homes, but there are also 2 pubs, an excellent butcher, award winning bakery, 3 hairdressers, a chemist and a co-op supermarket, as well as a few other businesses.
As we walk along the High Street, turning right onto Preston Road you will pass some of the larger houses in the village. These are all of individual and charming architecture with beautiful gardens. The river runs along the other side of the road.
As we approach Prestonkirk Church we turn left and head up to fields behind the village. From here it’s a short walk to the woods at the Smeaton Estate where we can once again meet Preston Road. This is a lovely walk in itself and if you continue up to Smeaton there is a wonderful plant nursery and tea room set in the old walled garden.
Across Preston Road we join the river path which takes us to Preston Mill. This unique building is worth exploring in itself, and I have another video which does this. Leaving Preston Mill we turn left and head back towards the village centre passing lovely cottages on the way.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of East Linton, please like and subscribe! And if you would like to know more about the history of the village (which is very rich) here’s a link with more information: eastlothianher...
