Wish me luck y’all I’ll be playing this for solo and ensemble for my final year of Highschool, whoever is reading this and this comment is years old. You got this, you’ll do great, and make sure to fill out your fafsa!!!
Wow this jus took me way back. I played this in 7th grade on alto sax. It was my first solo on sax 🎷 😣😩 I remembered this solo by heart and I haven’t played my sax in years. Time to get back into it then💪🏾
artistry and difficulty have never been the same thing. Anyone who can write music, can write something difficult, you don't even need to be able to play it, just notate it and you are done.
Alto Sax is typically a difficult instrument to tune. There is definitely always a note that is too sharp or too flat, but that was an amazing aria. The dynamics, and expression show a beautiful crisp, clear meaning behind the piece. Beautifully executed, and I couldn't help but notice, your fingers accidentally slid up while the your air was still flowing, and a wrong note came out (this happens to everyone at some point), I thought that was the end of it, but then you did a beautiful grace note, and I find that so respectable. Good job Jason!!
Dynamics, and expression 100%... There is definitely always a note that is too sharp or too flat, but that was an amazing aria....I agree....despite that, great version.....
This piece evokes a feeling of unfounded longing in me. It's as if i'm reaching for something that isn't there, the way the piece gradually gets louder and more complicated rhythmically before suddenly returning to the soft and pleasant melody, finishing with a somber and almost exasperated ending. I will never be able to get enough of this piece. I need it injected into my veins.
Gorgeous! You played it with the range of intensity that I was always striving for with this piece. Congratulations and thank you for playing and sharing this for everyone to take in.
Played this in 7th grade for a talent show and my principle who was a professional sax player was so impressed I knew it as well as I did so young. I love this piece.
This is going to sound awful😖 but I feel like I just took someone's soul because you Sir put in so much passion when playing, and here I am on repeat. Thank you so much for your hard work and sharing such a gem!🥰
How you do it?its great I hope I can play like you some day. I play sax too. I'm in fourth grade and I have been played some times this song and it's really beautifol
Sounds great man. There is only one thing I feel that you can work on if I may I'm also a student so I'm starting to work on this myself it is when taking a breath in a phrase trying to make it a silent breath by lowering the jaw to inhale this technique is great when play solos like this. Great job again!!
BDB_Ultra Long tones, my friend. Log tones on both mouthpiece and your horn will help substantially. Studying scales and getting them good will also help. Chromatic long tones that are held for 6 beats for one note and 6 beats for the next note Chromatically will help. Do that by going pp to p to mp to mf to f to ff and back down on one the second note. This will be your best choice. The next step is after you have done an octave of chromatic to do that with arpeggios.
BDB_Ultra No problem! I know how hard it can be to be an aspiring saxophonist. Some more advice is to not give up bc it will obviously take time. Also, keep listening to other great saxophonists like this one, and you might pick some stuff up by ear. Good luck
о да. играл это произведение, было сложно именно на дыхании, т.к. НИ ОДНОЙ ПАУЗЫ не было, да и надо было уловить и прочувствовать полностью произведение. исполнение классное!!!!
Really good job! I'm 13 and I have to play this! So difficult to learn. I'm not saying I'm better than you (Because I'm sure you are much more talented than I am) of course. I struggle mostly with the vibrato. It's so difficult for me to incorporate into the piece and get in all of the breathing with my tiny 13-year-old lungs haha. Ayways, great job man!
You'll have vibrato down by year 4 of playing. It will be instinctual by year 6, almost hard to fight on certain pieces because your mind just wants to place it on any note long enough to do so haha.
i'm 13 and I have to play this as well I'm at 3rd grade at music school, I don't do vibrato, it's hard to to ppp for me though, cause my head is spinning! I know I'm late, but I hope u played it well!
I had to play this for my solo. Unfortunately i didn't have a good outcome. My mouth got really dry as i was really nervous. And well playing with a dry mouth on a. woodwind instrument...not a good idea. Ended up screeching a lot. For any of those who feel nervous for solos, just take a deep breath and play to your hearts content!
guys no joke, i need help im playing this song basically jus for fun , im an all state alto sax, ive played many different fast moving peices but i jsut cant seem to figure out how to “sing” like how i see many classical saxophonist do , as in when he holds out the noirs his virbrato is just so smooth and i cant seem to get it down any tips?

Oh my goodness!!! I am also having this as my solo!!!! For y’all future people, I wish good luck from January 23, 2023!!!!
i’m playing this tomorrow and that really gave me some more confidence- thank you 🫶
ME TOOO YASSS
seeing this and playing this solo for my final year of hs is crazy omg
Wow this jus took me way back. I played this in 7th grade on alto sax. It was my first solo on sax 🎷 😣😩 I remembered this solo by heart and I haven’t played my sax in years. Time to get back into it then💪🏾
The thing is the notes in itself aren’t that difficult. But to nail it and find the right dynamics through the whole piece is the challenge!
For me it was the time signature
I need to play this in my classes😪
That’s are difficoult

Not being able to breath kills me playing this piece

Beautiful piano accompaniment as well!
Excellent, I'm loving the attention to intonation on the crazy harmonies that Bozza put in this thing, especially that bit around m. 49
Gorgeous! You played it with the range of intensity that I was always striving for with this piece. Congratulations and thank you for playing and sharing this for everyone to take in.
this guy is just AMAZING. i play saxophone and i'm so admirative ! he has a very very very good sound !
Played this in 7th grade for a talent show and my principle who was a professional sax player was so impressed I knew it as well as I did so young. I love this piece.
Your music is just amazing!!! Full of emotion. I just can’t help crying...
How could anyone dislike this. I play the alto and bari sax and the alto is probably the hardest to tune out of both. But that vebrado👌 incredible

Well done. Some notes started with the intonation a little bit out, but you adjusted and fixed. Great performance and great listening with the ears:)

I agree. he should work on breathing
^^Good use of the comment sandwich:
Great
Work on this
Great
There are breath marks on the music
My sax prof (Dr Cindy Cripps) says the same @ breathing
Good sound
2:18 I have also the same problem whit the tuning of the a so the vibrato is a good solution.
It’s not for tuning lol it’s written in the music it’s supposed to be vibrato
Its so cool
Very good
Wonderful!
Your saxophone is very nice
You perform this piece quite beautifully and I absolutely adore your sound. What kind of mouthpiece, saxophone, and ligature are you using?
+Daniel Umansky I think he used a Yamaha 875 EX, Selmer S90 (likely 170 or 180), with BG traditional ligature.

Joshua Laughlin maybe you can try to master vibrato first and than the rest. just a small hint.
i'm 13 and I have to play this as well I'm at 3rd grade at music school, I don't do vibrato, it's hard to to ppp for me though, cause my head is spinning! I know I'm late, but I hope u played it well!
There's a lot of stamina ... I'm trying to work on that so I can play it. Its such a beautiful piece
Joshua Laughlin Me too.
