    My loves! PLEASE DON'T GET ME WRONG. IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO BE SOMETHING "FUNNY/SCARY" FOR HALLOWEEN. FOR MY PORTUGUESE CHANNEL I DRESSED UP AS MALEFICENT, AND HERE ON THE ENGLISH I WANTED TO DRESS UP AS A BOLLYWOOD DANCER, SINCE I FIND IT SO BEAUTIFUL, AND I LOVE THE CULTURE. I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE FUN OF ANYONE, I WOULD NEVER DO THAT. IF I OFFENDED ANYONE, I AM TRULY SORRY. PLEASE, LET'S NOT MAKE THIS SOMETHING NEGATIVE. THANKS, I LOVE YOU ALL.

      Camila, I do not think you offended anyone here. You are doing your job very well done. I do not know if these people who took this video as an offense have experienced Halloween in the United States. Halloween is a day/week of parties that MOST of the girls want to wear something SEXY because we cannot do it all year around. For me, this video just says that Indian women are very beautiful and sexy. So I feel sorry for people who did not understand the video. You are beautiful and I loved the video!!!

    This is literally no different then people dressing up as native american indians, eskimos, a greek goddess, an arabian princess or a german beer girl for halloween. She obviously finds the look very beautiful and elegant. She is not implying that this look is scary. In America, for Halloween, people dress up as anything they want to be but cant be on a regular basis (cat, slutty-nurse, witch, arab princess are very popular ones). I don't see how there is much room to be offended, as you know she would never. Calm down people and take it for what it is, a form of flattery and appreciating the beauty of traditional indian wear.

      It is only ignorance that causes people to consider those costumes to be racist or offensive. People wear them because they think they are beautiful. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This should not bother you, and if it does, you need to reevaluate the situation and really try to figure out why it bothers you so much. At the end of that evaluation, if you are being honest and fair you should have come to the same conclusions I have. This is your personal prejudice only

    Girllll, why would this be a halloween costume? Dressing in a Sari and Bindi is part of their culture and something they do everyday due to their faith. If this was a wedding look it would be a different story.

    • @shazxxxxxxx16786
      @shazxxxxxxx16786 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      True. It would be like me dressing as a white American girl for Halloween. That would be equally offensive

    • @katiejenkinson06
      @katiejenkinson06 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Halloween is about dressing in something you wouldn't wear everyday. Girl i do not dress up as a vampire everyday nor do I dress up in a sari or bindi everyday. Why do people take things so seriously? Like chill. I mean I've seen drag queen makeup tutorials been put out for Halloween. You do realise there are many drag queens that were that type of makeup on a everyday basis. Surely they don't feel offended because ppl wanna step out of the box and wear drag queen makeup.

    • @nodelin
      @nodelin 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      katie jenkinson I'm assuming that A you're not East Indian and B that you have never been persecuted or ridiculed for wearing clothing or head pieces due to your faith. I never once jumped the gun and said anything rude or crass I am simply making an observation. The naming of the tutorial along with the fact contextually this is not a "bridal tutorial" is a tad bit offensive. Attitudes such as yours are EXTREMELY emblematic. I would feel the same way if she dresses up as priestess or anything represenataive of a religious denomination. It is a major NO NO for me. I don't want to come off as confrontational but it just is.

      Halloween in America is apparently very different from wherever you live. Less than half of the costumes worn here are scary. Most people wear costumes of people they admire or respect or things that interest them or things they find beautiful. As a child I dressed up as a Princess, angel, cat, baby, Renaissance era woman, Cyndi Lauper, Biker, Shee-rah, etc.

    OMFG I am an INDIAN and this is NO WAY OFFENSIVE at ALL !!!! I think ALL of the so called "racist" and "Indecent" comments are coming from non-Indians...so If its not OFFENSIVE to US than WHY is it offence to someone not belonging to my culture? I being an Indian have seen MANY Indian families sending their kids as Indian Queen, Indian Prince, Bollywood Hero/Heroin on Halloween nights, so ALL this discussion is just simply STUPID.. MakeUpByCamila2 there is actually no reason for you to give explanation AT ALL... its like giving reason to haters as to why you look so beautiful ! just take a chill pill.

      Sara A NO Hunney...black face...is yes racist...because ur representing the African/american audience in a negative/comical way... This is not OFFENSIVE at all...she holds the position with grace...she is not mocking us with a weird accent... or some naughty movements... ! so No hunney everything that someone does who doesn't belong to that culture should not be entitled racist.... I mean "Raj" from big bang theory is actually racist...being a indian he is stereotyping us...so yeah ..#getreal

      ***** If we want to continue talking about culture appropriation then I can guarantee over 50 percent of the things we all use/own on any given day came from some other culture/race. Your tennis shoes, high heels, car, makeup, your coffee maker, the internet, electricity etc. If these people complaining want to continue and complain about something so small and insignificant like this, then they should realize that they are hypocrites. Since Half of the things they own or wear were borrowed from another culture. It is the same thing. If they continue to wear/use them while complaining about this, they are ignorant hypocrites.
      Almost everything we all use, wear, or eat came from some other culture/people. For example; Have you eaten pizza or pasta ? You can thank the Italians for that with whom if you asked, I am sure you could easily find one or two that will have a problem that their history and culture have been eaten by you. Then there are others who brought it to the U.S and other countries in the first place and are happy to share it with everyone. Ever worn tennis shoes? You can thank Great Britain for those. Like popcorn? That came from the native Americans. I think you see where I am going here. Culture appropriation has happened through out history and it will continue to happen and a small group of people will always be offended. Again I say, she is not dressed up as an Indian. The ' It's a culture, not a costume' concept does not apply here!

    It's funny how people who are from India are not getting offended by this makeup look, and people who have no indian roots are getting offended. Camila I don't know if this is the first time I've commented on your videos or not but you're doing a great job! You're tutorials are the best if it wasnt for them I wouldnt know half of what I know today about makeup. Keep doing your thing, and please donot pay mind to the haters. I think people dont get the difference between bollywood and indian culture in general. It's not about the everyday saree, bindi or salwar... It's about the glamurous iconic bollywood looks. And dont even try to put religion into this matter because it just has nothing to do. The problem is that Camilla failed. If she had searched more and maybe used like a specific iconic bollywood look it would be fine. This 'culture appopriation' argument I understand and respect, but i find it way too radical. It depends on how much you are culturaly conservative. It's not so simple to point it... this would need a really long discussion and arguments. There is too much to be mentioned when it comes to culture appropriation.

    Camila, I think the makeup here is stunning but I must say, as an Indian and as an avid Bollywood fan, this "Bollywood" inspired look was leaning more towards that of a belly dancer's look which is more of an Arabic/Middle Eastern culture. This look felt more like a caricature and didn't capture the true essence of everything Bollywood. I understand this is a Halloween look but you were still meant to make it truly "Bollywood" right? So far on TH-cam, I think Lisa Eldridge (from a non-Indian's perspective) has done the best take on a Bollywood inspired look which she did sometime last year to celebrate Bollywood's 100th birthday. The look she did on a model was based on Aishwarya Rai's character in the Bollywood movie "Devdas". She captured the true meaning of the quintessential "Bollywood look" which was extracted from the movie and brought to life. Everything about that look was near perfect and I felt that you could have done a little bit more research as this looked extremely last minute and hastily put together. I hope you take my comment as a form of constructive criticism. As an Indian, I just feel the need to voice out my opinion on something which I personally felt was misinterpreted slightly. I also say all this in the hopes that you'll learn something from my comment and improve on your future videos should you attempt yet another Bollywood or Indian inspired look.

Grow up, guys, Halloween is a costume party, in this party you are dressed of something you like and think cool. I would be totally ok if someone told me that would be a brazilian girl on Halloween!!!!! Tá linda, Camila, ñ liga pra esses comentários que não levam a nada! :*

  • @SingerGurL1321
    @SingerGurL1321 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For goodness' sake, the comments are bloody ridiculous!! Halloween doesn't mean you have to dress up as something scary! The origins of Halloween had nothing to do with ghosts and monsters in the first place! Nowadays Halloween is used as an excuse to dress up in any costume. Kids dress up as princesses, do you yell at them for not being scary?
    I'm Indian and in NO WAY find this offensive! It's a great make up look for a Bollywood 'item' song! And Camila looks beautiful. I got so excited when I saw "Bollywood" in the title, because I love that my culture (social and popular culture) reaches so many parts of the world- like the US and Brazil. Stop being so PC about something that doesn't need to be PC. You keep doing your thing, Camila! I think you're lovely! X

    Hi, I usually love your videos, and I think you're really talented. But I feel slightly offended to think that someone would purely 'dress up for Halloween' in traditional indian clothing. Saris are part of a very rich culture and I don't think that treating it as a costume is very appropriate. I may be wrong, but as an indian myself I feel quite uncomfortable watching this as a Halloween tutorial.

  • @Modeatrois

    I am not Indian but I absolutely understand why people feel disrespected by this video, as soon as I began watching I didn't get why something obviously important to a culture can be made into a "Halloween inspired look", it really is inconsiderate, she has gotten to a point where this kinda mistake should not happen. Shame on her, and shame on her crew for allowing this.

    I am spanish, not latin, spanish, from Europe.
    I am a Bollywood and Bhangra dancer. I dress up in typical indian clothes every now and then. Last weekend to celebrate diwali, and some weeks ago to celebrate Navratri.
    I am not hindu, neither christian. I celebrate those festivals because my friends are hindu and i love and respect their culture.
    I have never tried to disrespect them by dancing their dances or wear the clothes they wear. Women from India wear sarees, salwar kameez, bindis and everything else on a daily basis. For me it's something special to dress up like that and i don't do it with the intention to offend someone in fact i do it to celebrate their culture. When people from India see me wearing typical clothes they have never felt offended but happy because a spanish woman is loving, respecting and cherishing their culture. I have faced more racist comments from white, spanish, european people than any kind of bad comment from a person from India.
    I am a makeup artist and i LOVE Camila, her make ups and her personality, she wont ever be disrespectful to any culture. She is an inspiration and i think that everyone here talking about offense, racism and any kind of negativity about this make up look should really stop and check themselves.
    It's very ignorant to throw stones at someone because she make a Bollywood "INSPIRED" look. Inspired means that is not 100% bollywood it's inspired, she get some things to make a similar look.
    If the offense comes because she said "Halloween", as far as i know there is no carnival in USA. Nobody dress up as something nice, beautiful and colourful on another time of the year, so in Halloween they end up dressing up as everything. It can be a ghost or a dead person since it's halloween and it's about dead but i have seen a looooooot of make up tutorials and a loooot of bloggers dressing up as beautiful fancy characters that are not scary at all.
    In this video Camila is not wearing any kind of religious thing related to Hinduism or something so i can't see the disrespect anywhere.
    I will definately recreate this look for any of my dance performances and i am sure that people will love it.
    Nobody will ever feel bad about this, neither my boyfriend or his family that are pure India people. They love it and like it since i am in love with that country and his festivities, bollywood movies, music, dresses, food and many many more things, and i respect every single thing.
    There is no offense in this and anyone taking it and starting a drama about this is really showing their ignorance.
    I agree that she is not wearing a 100% bollywood costume but since it's a INSPIRED look it don't have to be a 100% typical traditional bollywood dress. She can be confused too and mix a bit of arabic and a bit of indian but that's not a sin. If i ask some of u to place Spain in a map you will probably place it near Mexico or near Latin America and i dont see that as an offense, i think people is a bit too ignorant but a bit too hater easily too.
    I don't see the bad intention anywhere! Tqke care. Peace

      Didn't you see when Pharell and Khole Kardashian wore the native Indian headdresses for "fun" or "admiration" as you'd put it, they were informed of how disrespectful they were being. They imitated a race, they were posing with a headdress which is used for religious purposes not for fun. It has special meaning. There's a prime example on how dressing up as a race for any occasion would be wrong. Also, Juilian Hough dressed up as Crazy Eyes from Orange Is The New Black for Halloween last year and that was seen as racist as well, resulting in an apology. Educate, educate, educate. It's offensive to dress up like different races, imitate them and wear their cultural clothing for Halloween. I could understand if it were for an east indian bridal look but no one dresses up like this for Halloween unless its a specific character portrayal like Princess Jasmine for example. You're comparing drag queen makeup to a racial, cultural, religious offence. :/ If you educated yourself first, you'd see how it can be offensive as well.

      Sara A You do not speak for all of India. This particular situation is only inappropriate and offensive for you and a small group of people. The whole race is not offended. You are the minority not the majority.
      SHE IS NOT SAYING AN INDIAN IS A COSTUME! SHE IS NOT DRESSING LIKE AN INDIAN! She has nothing to apologize for. THE TERM INSPIRED IN THE TITLE MEANS; THAT BOLLYWOOD INSPIRED THE LOOK ONLY-NOWHERE DOES SHE CLAIM THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EXACT REPLICA OF SOMETHING AN INDIAN WOMAN WOULD WEAR EITHER.
      The title of this video is; 'Bollywood Inspired Halloween makeup';
      Inspired meaning:to make (someone) want to do something : to give (someone) an idea about what to do or create
      Bollywood meaning: The name "Bollywood" was originally borrowed from or inspired by the American city of Hollywood in California. Bollywood is only a small part of the Indian film industry. IT IS NOT THE ENTIRE INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY. If they can be inspired by America to create the name, I think it is perfectly acceptable for Camila to feel inspired as well.
      Halloween meaning: The night of October 31 when children dress up as ghosts, witches, monsters, etc., and go to houses to ask for candy. The Halloween meaning is very different for adults in the United States and Brazil.
      Halloween as celebrated for adults in the United States, especially women; Halloween is to dress in any clothing that you can not wear on a daily basis. Most people, especially women do not wear costumes anymore they just dress up in beautiful, or sexy clothing that makes them feel pretty. For a Brazilian or even an American woman this outfit is a beautiful one that we can not wear on a daily basis in our own countries without looking out of place. These are not traditional street clothes for our countries. It would look a bit odd. Just as a Indian woman would look wearing a traditional Brazilian outfit in a room full of these outfits. Halloween is the one day a year we can wear anything we want without looking out of place. It is truly a compliment if a woman chooses to wear something like this on that one day a year.
      Again, SHE IS NOT DRESSING UP AS AN INDIAN- SHE IS WEARING A BEAUTUIFUL OUTFIT ON THE ONE DAY A YEAR SHE WON'T LOOK OUT OF PLACE. You should be able to look at each situation on a case by case basis. Clearly this is a case where no one should be offended. Being offended by this situation is just petty and ignorant.
      Most of the people commenting here are only repeating what they have heard someone else say. Most of them don't even really understand why they are claiming this is racist or have any kind of legitimate, logical argument that doesn't make them sound like complete hypocrites. The fact remains that the ignorant are the only people finding this offensive.
      I am not denying that this issue is a problem for some, but it shouldn't be. She is not in an Indian costume. People will do what they always do and find offense in anything. WE SHOULD NOT cater to their ignorance. If it weren't this it would be something else. If we cater to everything that anyone finds offensive we would have no time for anything else. Eventually these people have to let go of the small issues, like this one. If we want to continue talking about culture appropriation then I can guarantee over 50 percent of the things we all use/own on any given day came from some other culture/race.
      If the petty people that are offended by this, are going to choose to remain ignorant and be offended then it is only fair that they should stop using anything and everything they own, wear, or use that came from some other culture. I can tell you they won't be left with much. Next time you hear someone talking about culture appropriation, remind them of this and only the hypocrites will keep talking about culture appropriation.
      The struggles you mentioned are irrelevant to this particular issue. You have let your past issues with race and your own personal prejudice taint your opinion on this issue. YOU ARE BIASED. We are not speaking about the past oppression of any race. We are supposed to be taking a fair and unbiased look at the situation at hand. This video only. THIS SITUATION ONLY. It is very clear from all your comments that you may not be able to give a fair opinion here. All you see is skin color and your past bad experiences. Let me tell you something; WE ARE ALL THE SAME! WE ALL COME FROM THE SAME PLACE! SKIN COLOR MEANS NOTHING!
      HUMAN BEINGS AS A SPECIES HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY IGNORANT AND HAVE OPPRESSED EACH OTHER MANY TIMES over the course of life on this planet. Not just white people, not just black people, not just brown people, not just women, not just men, etc. but the whole entire human species is guilty of this! IGNORANT HUMAN BEINGS DID THE OPPRESSING NOT ANY ENTIRE RACE!!!
      If you want to fight oppression, THEN FIGHT IGNORANCE, not just any one particular race. There are good and bad people in every race, there are oppressors and those who do not oppress. There are those who would grant privilege to only their own race and those who regard everyone as equal.The ignorant people are the only ones that oppress anyone and every single race on this planet has plenty of ignorant people. No particular race or ethnicity is to blame. The species is! The only way to solve this problem is to fight the ignorance and remain color blind and do not allow your race's past, present or future or your own personal bad experiences with ignorant human beings dictate your personal opinions on matters like this. If you continue allowing this then you are causing the problem, then you are just one more ignorant person making this world what it is and not what it could be.
      Signed,
      A fellow human being- RACE IS IRRELEVANT TO THE NON IGNORANT

    SHE IS NOT SAYING AN INDIAN IS A COSTUME! SHE IS NOT DRESSING LIKE AN INDIAN! She has nothing to apologize for. THE TERM INSPIRED IN THE TITLE MEANS; THAT BOLLYWOOD INSPIRED THE LOOK ONLY-NOWHERE DOES SHE CLAIM THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EXACT REPLICA OF SOMETHING AN INDIAN WOMAN WOULD WEAR EITHER.
    The title of this video is; 'Bollywood Inspired Halloween makeup';

    There is no need to fret. I am an Indian and I don't think this is offensive.she is trying to dress like a bollywood dancer not an Indian women. And the most important thing is that this does not look at all bollywood, it looks more like an arabic dancer. So chill guys !!! I think MakeUpByCamila2 has don a very good look ...the choice of eyeshadows are beautiful.

    Hi Camila, congratulations once more, for your great job. Even though I agree that's an arabian custom instead of a bollywood dancer's one, I still find it gorgeous. But I will tell you something: I have noticed most of the people who watch your English channel is so agressive and unthankful!! It's never enough for most of them. They always say you look tired, or the look is not goog, or the light is not enough. If I were you, I didn't share anything else on this channel. Instead, keep on sharing on your Portuguese channel.
    People who really enjoy your work -like me- will always follow you, whether you're sponsored or not, whether you speak English, Portuguese or whatever you may speak.
    BTW none of those are my native languages, I do speak Spanish, but I follow you, however, because of your art. Keep on dreaming and doing beautiful looks. Beijos!!

We don't wear (beautiful) loud make up all the time. So no this isn't offensive. It's actually pretty awesome. You're so beautiful, Camilla! Great vid! :D

    I'm very offended with this! My culture is not a costume. It isn't a costume for fun. It has meaning and significance. There is a limit to cultural appropriation. I get it if you dressed up like this for say an Indian wedding or a festival but not for Halloween. I love you Camila but this is offensive to me.

  • @Shaszify
    @Shaszify 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think that neither I nor any other Indian got offended watching this video :D hehe, because there is nothing to be offended about. She is a makeup artist, they try looks. She chose the occasion of Halloween for it, big deal guys. Doesn't make her a racist. I love her.
    But all that said and done, it is still funny when people think of doing Bollywood looks and generally go to the closest costume store and buy a belly dance costume??! :D Um...and then they do the namastey gesture and think that's Indian, hehe...I mean I take it all in a very good humor, its cute, but its sad that people do not take the time to actually know what the culture is really about. They generally ASSUME that people who might look alike from neighbouring countries have the same traditions, costumes, culture, thought and all that. Whats up with THAT :D ?? I mean just like there can be a marked difference between Americans, Canadians, English, Australians, even though they all speak English and are white, the same rule applies to other cultures too right? They are DIFFERENT COUNTRIES for a reason, right? And then there are occasional movies like Slumdog Millionaire which people think blindly defines how the country and its people are?? :D WTH ....
    Oh well, I would be wishing for too much if I asked that people should stop generalizing. The outfit sadly, was nowhere Indian, and the makeup too didn't click too well for me sorry Camilla :), I still adore you a lot though.
