    You had a good view on this flight! I always enjoy sitting in the back when the engines are mounted in the rear.

    I reckon these F100 engine sound one of the most beautiful!! It seems a chainsaw! And I had the opportunity of flying on it for 4 times on TAM (now Latam) in the 1990s!

    US Airways used to have Fokker 100s. I remember flying a few from Milwaukee to Pittsburgh and from Pittsburgh to Milwaukee.

    Aboard F100 only a couple of times back around end of 90s. Front row seat. Way more quiet and comfort compared to DC9, 737-200/300 (many still fly back then). Comparable to more modern era airplanes like 737-800 even A320 in my opinion. Miss it so much.

      Yes planes from that era had some differences with planes from the current time. I miss the loud noices and the smell of oil&gasoline

    is it true that aircraft with rear-mounted engines handle turbulence better than those with wing-mounted engines?

    Such a lovely aircraft. I flew one on USAir once when i was a kid. One even flew into Gainesville, FL and i git to take a tour. One of the main reasons i became a flight attendant lol 😂

    Pity that Fokker went into receivership in 1996, because right now such a plane with a more modern engine would be in high demand (and could have prevented the Embraer E170/E190 and Sukhoi SSJ100 from becoming more popular).

    Was watching this vid to see if it sounds like the one I went on in 2003. I went on a British Midland Fokker 100 from MAN-LHR. When taxiing the engines made a constant "wuff-wuff-wuff-wuff" sound very loudly. Then on takeoff it sounded like an electric razor, rather than a jet. Odd sounding plane.

    I noticed that most of pilots reduce the thrust after almost one minute of taking off. What happens if they keep the same power from taking off?

    • @chris22capt
      @chris22capt 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's called thrust reduction altitude, the altitude where it's safe enough to reduce the power. From TOGA to CLB. Usually around 1000-1500ft above field elevation. It's done to reduce wear on the engines hence longer life span. On older engine like low bypass turbofan, usually the takeoff power will be on yellow limit since it produced not much power compared to high bypass engine and it has time limit for thrust on yellow limit (usually like 5 mins or something like that) before the engine starts melting down. So historically speaking it's to prevent the engine from being damaged because of prolonged use on takeoff thrust which can lead to an emergency landing back to origin airport while nowadays with modern engine, it's being done to improve engine life span hence reducing maintenance cost.

    The Fokker 100 is a beautiful plane with an outerspacing amount of engine-generated thrust qualifying our standards! Though this must be stated - the name of the wonderful aircraft isn't as wonderful as the aircraft's outer-appearance and statistics!
