Marconi testing Gain Master vs. Imax 2000.

  • Both antennas are mounted @ top of the mast at 33' 8". This video will show both the signals from the 27.099 mhz beacon and channel 19 voice.
    It is difficult to catch guys on 19 driving around, they tend to make short comments and often doesn't give time for a real clear switch, but a couple of times I did make the switch that seemed to capture a noticable difference. This is a little easier here in front of the radio than it looks on the video however. Notice when I identify the antenna I have already made the switch, I'm just old and a bit slow.

    I've used the MACO v 5/8 and I've used the Amtron-99. Neither touched the performance of my Imax 2000. The Imax had better ears on the RX compared to both antennas and the Imax had a wider bandwidth too. The only negative remark I have is sometimes when it starts to rain the Imax will howl or whistle like the rain drops were causing some kind of internal static charge but that only happens sometimes.

      Flash, I didn't like my personal Imax, but I heard too many working good out there in radio land. I'd be a fool to say anything bad about the Imax. It is generally a very good antenna, and it often does not get the good vibs it should.

      @@eddiemarconi3420 I'm getting ready to change out my IMAX because it's got a lot of time on it and it's starting to give me some issues. I've gotten my money's worth and then some out of that antenna. I'm going to give the Sirio tornado 5/8 wave a try. It's an all aluminum antenna. I don't expect the bandwidth to be as good as the IMAX. Still I hear a lot of good reports on those antennas and a lot of the people around my area seem to have good results with them. When I get it set up I'll make a TH-cam video using an antenna analyzer for everybody to see.

    An Astroplane? Wow . . . I remember those antenna's and even had the original Avanti model back in the mid 1970s and it was one fine antenna. Then I switched to the Sigma 4 and that was an even better antenna but man was that sucker TALL! Today I guess it's known as the Sirio Vector. Either way I'm glad they still make them in one form or another, just hope it's just as good!
    You have one hell of a setup there with your radio and antenna's being used. That is indeed one heck of a radio station.

    ever heard of mutual inductance? it's what happens in beam antennas. one antenna acts like a reflector, due to variance in resonance. you get less signal from that antenna. you need to distance each antenna from one another. your creating an antenna specialist supper scanner. even if both aren't being fed a signal.

  • @MikefromAlabama
    @MikefromAlabama หลายเดือนก่อน

    Something to consider: Could the Gain Master be blocking the signal from the beacon so the other antennas could not see the signals? Test the antenna farther apart and not side by side.

    Sirio i find better built and better QA control on there antennas.They are two types of gain master now HW model half wave and the longer version gain master 25-30mhz broadband,well in Europe,UK they are not sure if HW version in USA?
    Very popular in UK for cb\10m use,but for line of sight use they are best mounted at least 50ft up from ground as have a low angle of radiation pattern.The HW having slightly higher angle of radiation pattern,and better suited when low down at sea level and have high terrain surrounding you,again mount these high up for LOS (line of sight) use to get best performance.

      Yeah... it did snap on our first gale winds when I put my Gainmaster up. But I know why it did. 'cause my friend wich tightened the screwes on the joints overtightened it so I in fact heard it crack in the fiberglass. Firstly, you are using an antenna switch which you soldered, how do you know that the antenna switching box isn't attenuating the imax signal? To do this test properly you need the imax on the same mounting pole with the same coax as you used with the gainmaster. You cannot conduct a test with two antenna's on different poles with different surroundings, it's just not equal conditions for both antenna's. Your tests are a complete waste of time.
