Very untrue statement sir, I am a fairly experienced guitar player and I trust my Line 6 PODHD all day, everyday. If you are commited enough you can make Line 6 Equipment sound very good indeed!
And always remember guitarists. Every product is specifically built to meet your exact needs, and if it doesn't, you get to freak out, call it shit, and swear off the brand forever. It's LITERALLY impossible that a company would ever produce something that's marketed for anyone except you.
"Tonewood deniers are idiots" HAHA get a basic electronics education FFS - next you'll be saying you believe in god! How the hell does the sound from wood, effect the electrical signal created by strings and pickups? idiot. Next time you play guitar try shouting at your pickups and see what difference it makes!
I'm using the new Line 6 V240 with the FBV 3 footboard for my electric violin using the built in wireless system, so cool. I have created 12 patches for the violin performing: rock, country, Cajun, and other varieties of music. Great sound and can perform right along side of the guitar play with his Powerful Marshall stack, no problem matching up the volume levels, and getting a great sound for my electric violin from my V240.
First amp was a Spider III 30. Didn't hate it at all. Learned to play guitar on it and all the different tones (even though they're nothing great) inspired me to play different things and really enjoy learning guitar. Say what you will about Spiders, but I owe everything to it when I really think about it.
I will never say a bad thing about Line 6. Always creating great affordable products for guitarist. My Pod 2.0 is still a lovely piece of practice gear.
I'm glad that Line 6 have finally updated the Spider range - Spider IV was pretty cool in 2010 & it did stuff that other amps didn't do, but in the last 2-3 years it really has only sold well when the price of it dropped below anything else on the market. The feature set on the new Spider V is cool - I like the wireless thing & the iPad App is really easy to use & offers a lot of stuff to play with. I don't think the preset sounds show off the amp terribly well - we'll be making our own ones with Paul (as they sound much better!), and maybe Line 6 will update the presets in the future. There are several excellent amps out there in this price range now & I don't think any one is the stand out model - its just up to you to pick the one that matches what you like the best.
I will always back the Blackstar ID TVP as a solid modelling amp. Not impressed with the sounds in this video. Looking forward to what you guys can wring out of this amp.
WRONG...lol. Just not the solid state Spiders. Line 6 has made a bunch of sweet gear...Vetta, DT, Spider Valve power section, DL4, HD500, Helix..but yeah, cheapo Spiders suck
Yup, you know it all. As with ALL gear, the user makes all the difference. The REAL secret to jaw dropping modeling is tube power section with real guitar cabs...or a Fractal dialed correctly. I got the Mesa tones on lockdown. Dream Theater, Metallica...spot on. HD500 is an epic piece of gear...if you know how to use it. 26 years playing, 4 tube heads, three 412s
I'm hoping this improves Line 6 status among guitarists. I'm still baffled they used the Spider name. I bought my Firehawk 1500 and FBV 3 about 5 months ago and it has not let me down one bit. I'll still take that over this, but I hope people give this one a chance, because the revamped tech is really impressive compared to past models.
tvoy batya spider amps lack those features, but the Firehawk, Amplifire, and the Helix etc. have every parametric feature you could possibly need. Especially if you're using the iOS app to edit your patches, like I do with the Firehawk. I started on a pod XT live, then used that and pod farm, then I had an hd500x. Anything you have is going to require some time of EQ at some point in the effects loop. With Line 6 it's just all included in one unit. I used a lot of different Amos in the past. From Orange to a 6505, even had an ENGL about 3 years ago. Had to put an EQ pedal in my chain every time. I do not put any faith in the Spider line, although I do hope they've listened to people and fixed the problems that have plagued it in the past. The higher end stuff they do is a totally different thing. It's not an AxeFx or a Kemper, but it's pretty easy to dial in great tones. And I prefer Line 6's interface over just about everything I've ever tried. Especially the new iOS integrated stuff.

tvoy batya two biggest reasons I sold my hd500x and switched to Firehawk...To simplify my rig, and I have zero friends..lol...seriously though, I still use bias desktop for most of my recording, and pod farm occasionally. When I'm just practicing or playing around it's the Firehawk for me.
Line 6 Spider, Metal Zone and Squier Stagemaster - the ultimate newbie set. Now, seriously, these amps are not that bad. I mean, people who just came into the guitar world and can't afford a tube Diesel with a full pedalboard can really put one of these to good use. Bashing amps just because they're solid state is fucking stupid. Funny thing is that people who do this are mostly experienced guitarists. Sincerly, a tube amp user.
hey! no bad things about my now 17 year old Squier Stagemaster :P. It received a Seymour Duncan in the bridge, but the Floyd keeps the guitar extremely stable in tune and it plays fine and I downtuned quite a bit. The original 'made in germany' Floyd Rose that was on my '80s strat broke of around the year 2000 (so close to 20 years in it's life), but the licensed Chinese 'licensed by Floyd Rose' thing that's on my Stage Master still goes strong so far :). I''ve got the first stagemaster series though (with a pickguard so it's looks more stratty but the neck is real thin :P). The newer Stagemasters looked like what all the new-metal bands were using at the day :).
+Joris Mak I meant no disrespect to the Stagemaster users, of course. The very first models are superior to the last series, though. No idea how the Floyd was on these. It's curious, how Squier went from really good guitars to stuff like Affinity serie. Wish you good day, sir.
Heavymetalowy Krzychu dude you're exactly right. A spider iv is my first amp and I've used it almost everyday for 3 years and it hasn't let me down. I hope to upgrade to a Marshall jvm or a fender bass breaker or blues junior.
What I noticed with my Spider IV 15 was that eventhough the built in sounds were rubbish, the clean channel was ultimately clean. (like cleaner than humanly possible with a valve amp) Because of this, it was a really cheap pre-amp to plug into your audio interface and really tightened up the sound of the mix.
Love the effect at about 9:50, it reminds me of my old fuct up tape player I had back in the 80's. I always see Line 6 as today's Crate. Line 6 is what Crate would be like if the 90's never happened, I bet C.C. Deville is wanting an endorsement deal!
Their effects are renown. Their overdrive and distortion (aka the stuff that actually matters on an amplifier) has always sucked, that's why they're basically useless. They make a valve version of the spider series and it's much better. Although, these effects and tones are by no means boutique.
Haven't played in 10 years(granted only played for 6 months back then) and getting back into and starting from scratch as far as learning. Dusted off my old Line 6 Spider II and FBV shortboard, and it works great still. Was a good amp to start off without breaking the bank and still getting a good amount of effects.
The clean channel stuff is alright but how well would it work for Metal and lower tunings? Because I have a feeling that the distortion is gonna sound too digital and fizzy on a high gain channel, in my opinion. Will have to try one out in a shop and see for myself :) Also, really like the idea of the wireless :) As long as you're nowhere near a military base (ala Spinal Tap) :P lol
These amps cost a few hundred dollars. It won't sound like a Triple Rec or a 5150. I'd have been happy to have one of these Spider V's when I first started out, they've come a hell of a long way.
Nothing wrong with these amps for their intended market. I enjoyed my Spider II for what it was, but got rid of it because I wanted more control over my effects and didn't like the modeling aspect. But it was okay for practice, and even used it in a band setting for awhile. It's a great amp for people on a tight budget that can't afford pedals and an amp/guitar.
I'd say it's not an amp for the pros, but it is definitely a cool series (30w for example) for the guys out there just trying to have fun at home, using backing tracks, for fun... if you wish to go gigging, I would suggest something else, like the Boss Katana 50 or 100w.
the loop function on the iv helped me craft my writing when i started writing. glad they kept it. even though im not picking one up lol after 9 years of playing i think its time i get a tube head and a cab
The FRFR speaker design, high wattage output, and simple interface are really great features... I think Line 6 might be onto something here. Sure, it probably won't sound "real" in my living room, but stick a mic in front of it on stage and I think this might actually sound really great PA'd.
I concur. I had a IV and it was just fine for what I wanted to use it for. It's a fine practice amp. As far as overpaying, lol, they start at 99 bucks and go up. You are hard pressed to find something as good in that price range. Yeah, there are some new amps out that I want to check out but there is no issue with the IV. I get dissed for my Cube40 as well. Until I start playing and sound better than the guy using an amp that cost 3 times as much. Those who criticize it either listened to bad players or just can't dial in a proper tone themselves. Never been an issue for me.
So I'm here at work again, and wanted to listed to the intro jam track a few more times, it really is that good, imo. It got me to thinking, the Line 6 Spider amp I have? I got it used form Mars Music right before Mars went out of business! lol, can't believe it's been that long.
They sound great....when you can find one that works.I have had to return 3 of the 30 watt MkV amps within the first week of owning one.The fourth one worked for about a month before experiencing dropouts and effects coming on unexpectedly .I bought a used Line 6 15 watt model that was dropped, and cracked a joint on the cabinet.Quite a jolt, but It still works perfectly.I think it is mainly the 30 watt model that is just a bad amp.We rehearse in a studio that has two of the bigger models, and they work fine.I see they are now bringing out a newer version, but I think I'll try the Peavey Vyper 40 watter.
Fantastic job by Paul (we're not worthy!) - as day jobs go demoing L6 isn't tooooo horrible but he still has to 'make the best' of the cheap stuff. If it keeps him on our screens then it's a good thing.
Nice slip-ons Paul! I know the spider name's a bit of a joke sometimes, but I'm sure the people that get this amp will enjoy it. As long as they're not expecting it to sound exactly like a JVM800 or Dual Rec like everyone expects.
I enjoy the spider iv120 2x10 every day with the long board. I like how the haters think every preset should work well with the room they are in and whatever guitar they happen to have. This spider series is meant to inspire creativity by creating your own sounds.
what other line 6 product does this compare with? specifically, are the amp models like a pod xt/x3 era tone or are they more of a pod HD? the amplifi series is old generation tones so I'm assuming these are too but I would like to know.
Solid State/Modeling Amps have been Around 22 years..1996..the Technology the past 22 years is incredible..i said this a thousand times before no need using just Tube Amps of any kind anymore..i haven't used a Tube Amp since 2009 that's when i was introduced to the Marshall MG 100FX..Solid state/Modeling does it all and more and their much more reliable than any Tube Amp..the Line6 IV and V are incredible Amps..i have the Line6 Spider IV 75 watt..awesome Amp..i Still have and Play out of my Marshall MG 100FX..its 9 years old and not one single issue with it..none of my Solid State/Modeling Amps have giving me any problems..can't say that about Tube Amps..
This takes me back to my college days when a Spider 2 112 was my second guitar amp which I used for a really long time until I eventually gave it away to a friend. My only problem with this is that I'm obsessed with tube tones now. Once I got my Spider Valve I was completely sold on using actual tubes along with digital modeling as a kind of best of both worlds so until I can afford something like that new thing Chappers demo'd and couldn't tell which one was a tube amp and which one wasn't (I believe it was called Kemper) I guess i'll stick with what I have.
gonna be checking out the 60 next week, as I need a replacement for my trusty and reliable Spider 111 - 75... be interesting to hear what the sounds are like in the flesh :-)
I play into a direct box on stage. Can I kill the speakers? It's a small auditorium and the sound guys get real testy when my speaker is bouncing off the back wall.
that beginning jam is so good, excellent playing, that is until it suddenly switches over to them talking which was very startling. edit, so i've sat here over half the work day playing the first 1:14 of thsi video over and over again while I work, it is just captivating, almost makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, lol. Sad to say, but I've got a really old spyder amp which sits in the garage collecting dust becuase it is way too for the house or the neighbors( who knew 50 watts would be too much?) Anyway, I'm sure this new amp is way better than my old one, excellent playing, just wanted to share just how good I thought the playing is :)
line 6 amps are underrated. I've gotten many compliments from ppl on regards to the tones I'm getting from the spider valve mkii. you really just have to spend time with the amp to get some good sounds out of it
Love your videos! Could you do a shootout of affordable solid state amps (e.g. Orange Crush Pro Series, maybe the Hotone Amps which are really great, and some others)? I think many would appreciate it! Keep up the great work!
I'm a relative beginner. been playing for almost two years and im thinking about getting this. should I? or is there better ones for like the same price?
line 6 haters everywhere. i have the spider valve mkii. I played it for a bunch of my fellow tone snob friends and said if they wasnt looking at it they would have thought it was a different "real tube amp". its all about learning and dialing in tones. i have the spider 4 112 combo and have no problem getting a good tone out of it. if you are looking for massive sound and better tone spend more money and try the helix or their dt series.
Obviously isn't something pro's will be buying to use on their next record, but it's not made for that . It's decent sounds at a price for the beginner/intermediate player who doesn't have loads to spend on pedals and such. A tool like this would've helped make a much easier transition into pedal world, knowing what each sound is and does. Only criticism... Where is Insane mode?
Is there any way to bypass the preamp (or at least have a setting when everything is neutral and without any effect)? I basically would like to know if I can just use it as an FRFR speaker/amp for my Atomic Amplifire. Thanks.
I'm pretty pumped to demo this amp. I've understood some of the gripes about Line 6 but that narrative is usually "they're shit, buy a Marshall or Mesa instead!" - problem there is of course if you could afford a Marshall or Mesa that's exactly what you'd buy. This product line is PERFECT for all types of guitarists, and it's becoming so good that there may be an argument that they'll one day be the superior amp. Definitely cannot beat how much you get for little $ in comparison.
Main difference are speakers & controls. Amplifi have several speakers inside. So you have like a stereo sound which is good for streaming/covering. You can use these as streaming station. But Amplifi have only 4 internal presets and few controls. So they are more oriented practicing at home using smartphone than gig/live. For gig/live you ll need footswitch & amp controls. Spider V are designed for gig/live. 100 presets, wireless ready, lots of controls, LCD screen + FSB pedal board for better control in live condition. The V 30 still a practicing amp. But 60, 120, 240 are gig/live amps. If your use is practicing at home, amplifi 75 is probably better than spider V 30. But if you are looking to play in band, take at least a spider V 60 or 120. In my opinion for gig/live go for a Mustang 3 V2. Mustang 3 can do both, practicing + Gig/live, 12" speaker, Mustang is cheaper than Spider V 60 or amplifi 75. And you can use the two fender footswitch for live/gig. Tones are pretty good. Less amp/effects choice but probably better tone quality. Mustang 3 still the best choice actually. Clean/crunch tones are pretty good. Cleans are close to fender tube amp tones. Bluetooth functions are gadgets for most. These are only good for home using. Wireless ready still great for live. And last but not least, dont go Mustang, Amplifi or Spider V if you are looking for good metal tones.
I tell you what ... Paul is one hell of a guitarist ... maaan that guy can play I'd like to see him play live ... we need to see him and Pete jammin !!!
"A million plus happy customers"... Hey, now, just because some sales guys pushed it down your throat when you started out doesn't mean you actually like it, lol.
lol, thats exactly how i ended up with mine, i had just been getting back into guitar after putting it down for 2 year (I was 10 last time I played so i didnt k ow any brands) i just got what they told me, now i wish i ignored guitar center because i am poor so i am now stuck with my spyder iv as my go to amp
Best part about this demo is the playing!! Holy crap he's good
I know man. I mean I sort of like the amp because his playing really highlights the tone.
haha why do you think they let him do the demo?
Very untrue statement sir, I am a fairly experienced guitar player and I trust my Line 6 PODHD all day, everyday. If you are commited enough you can make Line 6 Equipment sound very good indeed!
glenn fricker is going to love this one.
can't wait Glen to review this!
rangga aditya who the hell is Glen?
Glenn fricker, from spectresoundstudios. Check him out
rangga aditya just thinking the same, haha!

yea you should always get your gear advice from angry elderly failed musicians. :D
My god this guys playing is out of this world. The opening and ending jam were orgasmic.
And always remember guitarists. Every product is specifically built to meet your exact needs, and if it doesn't, you get to freak out, call it shit, and swear off the brand forever.

Well, I'll say this much, they got the right guy to demo it. Paul is a fantastic player, and could make anything sound good.
HES NOT ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS, DOES IT HAVE AN INSANE MODE OR NOT????
Insane is still there. ;-)
Ross Bailey thank god i don't know how I would play pantera without that insane mode
SlickDude so you're saying I'm not supposed to have my metal zone hooked up with insane mode on?
OOOOL DA GEEEINNN!!!!!!!
you made my day
First amp was a Spider III 30. Didn't hate it at all. Learned to play guitar on it and all the different tones (even though they're nothing great) inspired me to play different things and really enjoy learning guitar.
Say what you will about Spiders, but I owe everything to it when I really think about it.
You can see the effort that Captain did put in to not say that the Spider IV was a piece of shit... LOL
he deserves respect for that lol
Jeuel Sapad He absolutely does
Only tried one once a nice PRS SE through the spider IV.Could not get a nice sound haven't touched either since.
I would blame the Spider IV. Grab that PRS SE and play it on any decent Marshall stack and your world will be rocked.
Give the SE another try, PRS make some of the best guitars in the world, especially in the SE price range.
No, they make a solid-state powered version of the Kemper with 600 watts.
Absolutely the best demo videos on TH-cam. This amp seems sweet
I swear, I could listen to Paul play for hours. Such a great player.
Beautiful melodic playing as always, Paul. Nice!
Truly enjoyed this! Not just the Spider but the guitar playing as well. Thanks!
I'm hoping this improves Line 6 status among guitarists. I'm still baffled they used the Spider name. I bought my Firehawk 1500 and FBV 3 about 5 months ago and it has not let me down one bit. Nice job Line 6! I'm honestly very impressed.
You guys are killin me with the super cleans. Grind that damned thing I want to hear it scream.
I was still rocking a spider ii until very recently, great for finding the sounds you want to make and push it from there
Line 6 Spider, Metal Zone and Squier Stagemaster - the ultimate newbie set.

Heavymetalowy Krzychu well my plan is to have my big head and cabinet to be the Marshall and my practice amp to be the bass breaker.

This does actually sound pretty decent, I think Line 6 stuff has caught up with the more "boutique" modelling stuff a tonne recently
Their effects are renown. Their overdrive and distortion (aka the stuff that actually matters on an amplifier) has always sucked, that's why they're basically useless.
They make a valve version of the spider series and it's much better.
Although, these effects and tones are by no means boutique.
They used to make it you mean. The DT series barely exists now, and the Spider Valve series was discontinued years ago.
just love paul's playing..now waiting for longer video
Haven't played in 10 years(granted only played for 6 months back then) and getting back into and starting from scratch as far as learning. if you dont want the digital distortion crapping out you could use an analog pedal
True, something like a tubescreamer would probably be good!
Yeah, pedals would be a good option :)
Great playing by Paul, as always...
I just used a spider Iv 75 watt combo live in a five hundred seat theatre and sounded epic.Didnt even mike it and had it on quarter of the way.
Looks great can't wait for the full review IS THE LOOPER MULTI LAYERED? please expand on this in the full demo. Paul great playing again..
does it emulate the Miku pedal? ;-)
Damn line 6 stepped up their game. I won't be embarrassed to own this one.
I'd say it's not an amp for the pros, but it is definitely a cool series (30w for example) for the guys out there just trying to have fun at home, using backing tracks, for fun... if you wish to go gigging, I would suggest something else, like the Boss Katana 50 or 100w.
the loop function on the iv helped me craft my writing when i started writing. glad they kept it. even though im not picking one up lol after 9 years of playing i think its time i get a tube head and a cab
the last solo he played was simply epic..!!
I have the Line 6 Spider IV Jam 75w... It isn't horrible, but god damn the difference in sound is fucking crazy. Good video, Captain.
Paul's playing is sooo good damn!
The FRFR speaker design, high wattage output, and simple interface are really great features... I think Line 6 might be onto something here. Sure, it probably won't sound "real" in my living room, but stick a mic in front of it on stage and I think this might actually sound really great PA'd.
Love these techno amps!
Looks pretty cool, I might get one of theese!
The end jam was cool. Paul's a great player.
Fuck what people say, I love my spider IV and this amp looks and sounds awesome. For the price these things are amazing.
The used market is oversaturated with these amps. I hope you bought yours secondhand/used or you massively overpaid.
TheProgGuy Of course I got it secondhand, for something close to $100 or $150
So I'm here at work again, and wanted to listed to the intro jam track a few more times, it really is that good, imo.
This is everything I need in a metal amp
Sounds Good! Great Playing!
As long as they're not expecting it to sound exactly like a JVM800 or Dual Rec like everyone expects.
sounds more clear than the spider IV so looking forward to this
I would LOVE to see the Captain and Chappers compare the Spider V and the Peavey Vypyr PRO 100 side by side!
I love the colour of the guitar. The amp sounds like it could possibly change the Line 6 reputation.
I just came to see Paul Hindmarsh play. Incredible.
Pretty damn cool
thanks to capt lee and paul for keeping it real, I think the spider is gonna be a marshall code killer and vox killer imo
I got the 30 for home use. The iPad App really makes it for me. The presets are okay, but the app makes it easy to dial in sounds.
I enjoy the spider iv120 2x10 every day with the long board. I like how the haters think every preset should work well with the room they are in and whatever guitar they happen to have. This spider series is meant to inspire creativity by creating your own sounds.
Quite impressed.
what other line 6 product does this compare with? specifically, are the amp models like a pod xt/x3 era tone or are they more of a pod HD? the amplifi series is old generation tones so I'm assuming these are too but I would like to know.
Seems to have some cool features, especially the built in wireless....but to fair I think that guy could make a $50 practice amp sound good
I'd wait for the Line 6 Spider 6 ;-)
would it be better to buy a line 6 4 with 150w abd 2 timews 12" speakers
or a line 6 5 120w with one 12" speaker? Im mean from the sound
that beginning jam is so good, excellent playing, that is until it suddenly switches over to them talking which was very startling.
edit, so i've sat here over half the work day playing the first 1:14 of thsi video over and over again while I work, it is just captivating, almost makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, lol.
Sad to say, but I've got a really old spyder amp which sits in the garage collecting dust becuase it is way too for the house or the neighbors( who knew 50 watts would be too much?)
Anyway, I'm sure this new amp is way better than my old one, excellent playing, just wanted to share just how good I thought the playing is :)
I wonder if Bomber XTC is only good sounding sim, because all parts was with it?
Is it available in Australia yet? What is RRP in AUD?
It's the player that make it sounds good
line 6 amps are underrated. I've gotten many compliments from ppl on regards to the tones I'm getting from the spider valve mkii. you really just have to spend time with the amp to get some good sounds out of it
I like that emerald green axe, its sweet
Not hearing glass shatter at 14:06 felt odd. I forget that not all high fives have sound effects after watching Chappers' channel so much
Does the Spider V have a looping feature? If not, how does he do the loops at the end.
collin mccarter it does
Love your videos!
Are they still using the same processors or are the using the same processors that is in the helix.
Thanks.
Jo's Stuff They said no effects loop so probably not. At best you'd probably have to select a clean/super clean model and go through the front end.
I asked that option as well. Hopefully they have a neutral setting that we can use
Holy sting buzz! How about some neck relief or a proper set up?
If I were looking into a Spider V 30 or Amplifi 75 for about the same price as a practice amp, what would you recommend?
So it's kind of like the Marshall code right?
"A million plus happy customers"... Hey, now, just because some sales guys pushed it down your throat when you started out doesn't mean you actually like it, lol.
lol, thats exactly how i ended up with mine, i had just been getting back into guitar after putting it down for 2 year (I was 10 last time I played so i didnt k ow any brands) i just got what they told me, now i wish i ignored guitar center because i am poor so i am now stuck with my spyder iv as my go to amp
Imagine being stuck with a broken flextone 3
What I have found, these digital amps work well with Active Pickups, but sound fizzy & muddy with passive pickups...
Bring back the plastic chromed knobs! :p
that was a hectic intro solo!
The play out at the end reminded me of "slough" by David Brent
How do you dial up that sound effect(s) ?? 😨😰
Boss makes guitars now? I can't find anything online. Does anyone have info on this?
Does it have a DI out that won't kill the speaker
I'm watching this on a laptop which is perched on a 120W Spider III. Just thought I'd mention it.
me too
So is there an ios app specifically for the spider 5 that you can download
I actually like it.
Paul is awesome...
