I have a 1998 Maz 18 reverb that I sent in for the Mk II update about a year ago. Like Dr. Z said in the video, the updates make it a better sounding amp, which I honestly didn’t think was possible! The post phase inverter master volume is magical, and absolutely replaced my attenuator. The reverb rivals my fender Princeton reissue as well! Don is a great person to work with as well! If you’re thinking about taking the plunge, absolutely do it! Thanks for being such a wonderful company!
Dr Z and company are a class act. I had a failing rectifier tube in my Jetta and they helped me diagnose it. I appreciate the communication they provided. Thanks.
As much as I spammed the doc and team when I was so sad that the Remedy was discontinued (maybe the Dr. Still remembers the guy desperate to get one in east Europe once it was discontinued, which I did!) - I`m very glad to see the doc back online! Next one to get - The Z-Wreck!! Thanks for offering such great products, Doc!
Still loving my Stang Ray. Had it 5 years and am playing 4 shows a week. Had my amp guy bench it and he said he didn't have to adjust anything. New tubes is al I've done. I receive compliments about my tone at almost every gig.
I picked up a used Maz 18 NR a few months ago. Sounded great, but the within a week, I sent it in to have Don give it a check up and perform the update. By and far, this has instantly become my go to amp. Well worth every penny to have the update done…and having the amp checked out gives a peace of mind that it’s not going to fail me!
That’s a great service! I’m applying for a job whether you’re hiring or not! I built a Z28 and was VERY impressed with the circuit. I put a PPMV in it and it works great! Used a push/pull pot to engage it but it’s not really necessary. I just used it because people are weird about MV’s. I’d love to build Dr Z amps all day long!! The circuits aren’t needlessly complicated and the resulting tone from the speaker attests to that brilliantly!
I had the MKII mod done to my Maz18NR head last year and it was totally worth it. Don was awesome to work with. Dr. Z makes excellent products with integrity.
Last year I sent my Carmen Ghia to Z for the PPIMV mod. I was previously using a Weber mini mass attenuator but was unhappy with having to get reacquainted with different feel, tone, and gain response at every volume level I set it at. With the PPIMV the Carmen Ghia feels and sounds consistent from bedroom to band practice levels (not factoring speaker breakup). Gotta say, it's been my favorite purchase as far as cost/benefit goes for a long time. Attenuator's now gathering dust. Definitely recommend the mod to anyone that owns a Ghia or eligible amp. Nice work Z!
Taking the criticism on face value and coming back with a real solution for older models is another good example why Dr Z is still one of the best amp companies on the planet
My 97 carmen ghia has survived 8 gigs a week, on average, most of the time withing spitting distance of the Atlantic Ocean and has barely even needed tubes. Outstanding build quality. They stand up.
Well the Good Dr (Z) is so right here. Got my 2010 Maz 18NR back recently with MK ii updates. Got to take it to a jam this past weekend for the first time. Feels like a new amp. Feels like, well, my MK ii head…which is the reason I wanted the combo updated. But the MK ii head is red, so it sounds better. Haha. I loved the original version on my Maz the way it was, but now I don’t have to use pedals to get the dirt and just use the built in sauce. Love it! Oh and Don was great to work with!
Almost sold me on a Dr.Z amp... I live in Canada, and if service and Mods are not covered up here, then I guess I'll stick with something serviceable up here. So close.
No, unfortunately. We did try this, but if you watch the Z-28 Mk II AMA, you'll hear Dr. Z mention how the original design didn't work quite as well with the master volume. Hence the redesign to get the master volume to sound great but still keep the Z-28 sound. Somethings just aren't plug it in and it'll work like you expect it would.
Is this something you still do? I have a Maz 18 and it seems like the MKII is an overall improvement - I love running it clean and loud. I have reached out but haven't gotten a response since June.
How can you improve on the already perfect Carman Ghia? How much for my Carman Ghia to mod, if I drive it over someday? Nevermind. I just checked the site. Thanks MZ
I have a question, but I'm not sure exactly who to ask. I have a 2015 Maz 18 jr reverb that started as a Mki combo and was upgraded in 2018 to a MKii head in red with the cream front baffle. But it doesn't have a cab. The amp is from Palen in Springfield MO, so do I go talk to them about this or do I talk directly to you? I'm just talking about a 1x12 open back in red, I have a mojotone bv25m I'm putting in there but I'll buy it loaded if I must.
@@DrZAmplification I see. And what about 2x12s or other configurations, if you don’t mind my asking? I would even turn it back into a combo if you sent me the upside down print with it for the front panel (back panel is already still upside down from before its first surgery lol). I just like red, you know. I might even go for 2x10 if I had to, even though I have a deep and abiding love for the 12" Mojo BV25M. Pair of WGS Veteran 10s would probably do.
@@DrZAmplification My ideal second choice would be a 1x12 combo box and upside down front print, third place would be a 2x12 cab. Or are you just plain out of red? Closed back works, just anything besides the current red Dr Z on top of a black marshall cab.

What a great feeling to be part of such a wonderful family. Thank you dear Dr Z and family for everything!
OMG!
Wow! What a great service!
Makes me want to buy one!

I'm so happy Dr.Z is back on here. That bloody Z 28, these guys have done a good job, and the maz mark ii is just dam superb.

Since a Z amp so rarely fails it’s nice that you are giving your repair folks something to keep them, busy. 😉
Good to see you again Doc!

Fantastic Alex, thanks for sharing that, and thanks for being part of the family.
I dig the humility. I have a Maz 18 1.0 and I think I’ll send it in for the 2.0 upgrade…
you won't be disappointed!

Would love to see an AMA on PPI vs Half power vs Attenuator design!
great idea!

Unfortunately there an no longer any red 1x12 extension cabs. You would have to find one used.

My Galaxie will be coming in for a master v mod.
we will keep an eye out for correspondence!
I would like that done to my Galaxie let me know how you like it and if its worth the cost.
What about the speakers in a combo? If it is not broke, don't touch it, or should speakers that are 20 plus years old be changed out?
Speakers are usually fine, but they can tire and if they start have weak or flabby bass response, and dull highs, it's time to change them out.
Thank you. Makes sense.
1999 Route 66 mods ? Master volume maybe?
could be coming soon... next year
@@DrZAmplification in the meantime, my Maz 18 does great. I save the route 66 for the big outside gigs. Thanks
