I remember playing this on a TV plug-in Atari emulator as a kid. It pains me to look back on it and realize that I never even beat the first level. For some reason, this game scared the shit out of childhood me.
I played this when I was 3 yo. Everytime I saw that duck, I would drop the controller and run in the other room. I cant believe I found this after 28 years and people had the same experience.
played that on an Atari Flashback and wait... IS THAT DAMN YELLOW ARROW POINTIN TO THE LEFT SUPPOSED TO BE A SWORD WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO KILL THOSE DAMN SEAHORSES?
Ah..there were only so many sprites this system could display on the screen at one time...the developers solution? Flash them alternately rapidly so even though that one or the other is only on the screen at one instant in time, flashing them really fast gave the illusion they were both on the screen at the same time. Late 70s programming fix.
Brilliant game for its time, actually did create an atmosphere and had a smooth, fluid feel. Bat was annoying and amusing, the dragons were great, nice game!
Even as a little kid I loved this game, the fact that you had to kill or evade Dragons was my favorite part and in some ways it helped develop a love for RPGs. And it was funny when a Dragon ate you, the stress of running away from the black Dragon was real lol
This was the first video game that gave me a heart-pounding adrenaline rush. The dragons were scary as hell. But it was fun to fly around the maps after they ate you
I find it funny how even though you play as a pixel in a simplistic game , I’ve never felt any kind of fear like running into these dragons harmless as a kid
Man, this game sure was revolutionary for its time. I'm sure an average modern day gamer would say that this game looks like absolute crap, but I think we should all appreciate what this game had for us when it was released. Also, from what I recall this is the first video game EVER to include an easter egg!
The simplicity of this game is so weirdly satisfying!... the sounds jump- scared me and the over-all level seemed entertaining... might've had a blast if I had tried this 10 years ago lol
Wow, i remember playing this game back in the 80's. I still have my atari 2600 boxed up in my attic somewhere... I would love to hook it up and play it.
In 1977 in 4th grade I saw Star Wars and also got an Atari. I believe adventure came out a year later. I know how to enter the secret room with the easter egg developers signature!
Amazing. I spent hours as a child playing this game. 1983? 85? And it was so addicting. And I'm sure kids today look at it as we looked at silent TV...
true. but it was awesome, and there wasn't anything else like it u could play at home. way cool. I can remember begging my parents and being so stoked when I finally got it.
@@cherrygarcia1845 I didn't even have to beg they realised i was bored 90% of the day so they gave me a atari stick thingy to move with and a ps2 i don't renember having the 2600 the controler on it's own worked i think i was 5 back then so...
Daredevil I wonder what will happen in the future to our current games, sure they’ll be old but what will people consider them. Think about it,right now we call these games old but when the next generations arrive our current games will be old and the games we call old now will be either forgotten or people will just call them OLd old. Man time is crazy..
I remember when my dad got us an Atari when our Playstation 1 broke. Me and my sister had so much fun playing it, especially with the imagination we had back then. I used to spend hours playing this game.
I remember I was freaking out from those ducks or whatever they are. This is the first time I see this game since 1994 and It looks totally different than it was in my mind :D
I had the strangest dream last night. Adventure was on in the background of whatever I was doing and some kids were playing it on a big TV. I told them about the secret through the "fake" wall. Then they got there and we found an entirely new area where all the walls looked like a combination of when the game is won and the flashing chalice. All the backgrounds were completely black and not colored. Crazy. And I have neither played this game nor thought about it in years.
If I remember correctly this might have been the first game I ever played and I was born in 2001. I definitely remember playing this and pong with my mom. It's strange and even scary to think about how fast technology advanced and is continuing to advance. It's on an exponential scale
Damn this brings back memories for real. Great memories. My big sis Kat had this and i used to stay playing it. Those were the days. Thanks for sharing!
I was born late 90's but always had an attraction to old school pixelated game and bought myself an atari joystick for 5 bucks at a garage sale and always remember playing this game not knowing what the fuck i was doing lol
Gosh, somehow I remember the graphics being so much more detailed, the ducks looking much more dragon like, and the little 2-D box player resembling my warrior on Skyrim....Now that's called NOSTALGIA!
so, i just played this on IGN for the first time just now....ive never played an atari game and i didnt read the instructions (because i figured 'i can figure this out'). i found the black key, then the maze, then the black castle....then went back to get the key because i had left it haha ....then i found the chalice and returned it. i didnt know if i won or died. 0_o i had to come here and find out. thank you for posting! :-)
Adventure was my favorite game as a child. Seems silly to look at now but it was the gameplay. Something no software company even takes into account now. As humans we move on all the time. Gameplay has not reflected this. Someone somewhere must have an idea to innovate and wow us with something special. Where are you ??? !
This one is pretty simple. I would like to see the player playing the third level, where there was another dragon, painted red and the bat, flying with anything. I remember at the beginning of level 2, if you were not fast, he took the yellow key of the castle and fly away, and you had to have something else (a dragon, a sword or even the bridge) to exchange with him. The problem was when I was the dragon took the cup away and left the dragon to eat you.
its more fun when you put everything in the yellow castle, lock all the keys in their castles and let go of the trophy towards the magnet to fly into the yellow castle
I remember sometimes I would just take the black key while not killing any dragons go into the black castle, grab the chalice and make a mad dash back to the golden Castle with all three dragons chasing me. 😂
Ahh, OK. Not familiar with it. But as someone who played Adventure when it first came out, trust me, we called them ducks, too. :-) Yorgle (yellow) Grendel (green) and Rindle (red).
There was something about the absolute silence while being chased by the yellow dragon that fucking terrified me as a kid
Yesssss
okay so i wasn't the only one that got nightmares from a block getting eaten by a piss poor drawing of a dragon lmao.
I thought it was a duck
These were the days when you needed the instruction manual to know what the hell was going on.
@Ryan-Rami Ayoub same
@@user-to4qp8ie6r I second that.
I know right?!
Actually after a playthrough or two, you kind of figure out these things on your own. It's not as complicated as you might think.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember playing this on a TV plug-in Atari emulator as a kid. It pains me to look back on it and realize that I never even beat the first level. For some reason, this game scared the shit out of childhood me.
I was scared of that fucking penguin who was following me all the time.
Lucy Donovan YOUR COMMENT IS A YEAR OLD BUT.
SAME.
Old comment but same. I didn't know what to do. I think it was the silence and the fucking dragon. It's very errie.
Same here. Always got ate by Dragon.
I played this when I was 3 yo. Everytime I saw that duck, I would drop the controller and run in the other room. I cant believe I found this after 28 years and people had the same experience.
I haven't played this game for over 30 years and I haven't forgotten the maze route.
I have
I found the same
Same here. This is so crazy seeing this after so many years. I couldn't remember it until I watched this and now everything is familiar to me.
@@JeffRyan_88keys you must of been one of the kids that Just Said No

I played this back in the day as a teenager. What fun memories this brings back.

Rock Heiland THATS WHAT I THOUGHT! I THOUGHT THOSE WERE ARROWS AND SEA HORSES LMAOSDJDCF
I didn't know that until I saw this video. And I'm happy that I'm not the only one who saw them as seahorses
This game scared the shit out of me for some reason...
I know right, I got this game a very very long time ago and it still does.
me too
Same here
Same
I was dumbfounded and scared
You can see that the frame rate drops a bit when the high res dragons are on the screen. I played this to death when I was a kid.
Ah..there were only so many sprites this system could display on the screen at one time...the developers solution? Flash them alternately rapidly so even though that one or the other is only on the screen at one instant in time, flashing them really fast gave the illusion they were both on the screen at the same time. Dude - YOUR CHANNEL RULES !!! Thanks for bringing back my HAPPY memories from the 80's. 👍

wow the graphics on that block character are amazing!!! it seriously looks exactly like a real block...

Yeah how u couldn't escape it's belly but was able to try!
I was born in '95 but all we had to play until 2002 was Atari 2600. This was my favorite game out of the bunch.
LMFAO holy fucking shit the memories XDDDD
When I was a little girl, I always wondered why the giant "chicken" was mad at me.
This was the first video game that gave me a heart-pounding adrenaline rush. The dragons were scary as hell. But it was fun to fly around the maps after they ate you
Hahaha Yup, good times
I find it funny how even though you play as a pixel in a simplistic game , I’ve never felt any kind of fear like running into these dragons harmless as a kid
Ok millenial
I cant believe I used to play this. Man I feel old!! LOL
I thoroughly enjoy the fact that there is an "HD" viewing option.

This looks exactly the way I remembered it. I always thought the graphics on the game sucked (guess I had standards back then) but I still loved it.
If u watching this in 2024 u are a legend this my childhood on bro 💯
The simplicity of this game is so weirdly satisfying!... the sounds jump- scared me and the over-all level seemed entertaining... might've had a blast if I had tried this 10 years ago lol

I used to play this on my uncle’s old Atari and it used to scare the hell out of me
Why did it scare you? Was it the dragons?
Admit it you that yellow thing was a duck and not a dragon as a kid
This was like Skyrim at the time. A world to explore! I was also 6 years old.
Holy shit man, imagine what the games will be like in 2040!
Daredevil
fucking holographic shit LMAO

Given the limitations of it’s time, this is one of the greatest games ever.
Holy crap I just went through a time machine watching this.....
I screamed at my TV for hours at that bat.
I remember finishing this game , felt very accomplished !
You’re the most valiant of squares I’ve ever seen in the realm.

The dead dragons can now become cat food!
Heard about this game from reading the book Ready Player One.
+BloodRavyne Same here
+BloodRavyne I played it on a plug in Atari emulator years ago, but the book reminded me of it
Yep, Level One is a breeze. No catacombs, no bat, and no Rhindle. Slay the other two, open the Black Castle, grab the chalice, and your quest is done.
was amazing as a young kid
The sounds take me back to my childhood!

I got complete satisfaction completing a level back in the day
Those damn flamingos still give me nightmares.
They're dragons
Surprised that annoying bat 🦇 thing didn't fly through and disrupt the game!
before skyrim, before legend of zelda, there was adventure :)
Damn this brings back memories for real. Great memories. My big sis Kat had this and i used to stay playing it. Those were the days. Thanks for sharing!
Came here after watching ready player one.
So it's the great-great-great-great-great grandfather of Skyrim?
This game frustrated the snot out of me. You could only have one object at a time and it could get stolen by the stupid bat.
Yeah, that bat is so ANNOYING! His antics of taking your items and leaving you pretty much helpless make me want to drive my head through a wall! XO
The bat wasn't in this level. Yeah, the bat could be a problem, but that was part of the game.
Nanette Pacelli Are you related to Eugenio Pacelli, Pope Pius XII?
Sex

The freaking duck dragons a classic
This game has been on my mind forever. The secret dot in corner 🤦♂️
i remember playing that on the old 2600 of my mother, i was 3!
So it is so!
The arrow is a sword and the flashy thing is to be taken to the first palace... Man! FINALLY I know!

theres a swtich on the unit that can select diffuculty and if you have it on the easier setting the dragons run from the sword

Crazy they took inspiration for this game from UFO Soft’s Barbuta
Damn those graphics are tight. Ready Playa One holla!
People overlook the chameleon aspect of this game. Your color changes to match the room color you are in.
OMG came here from ready player one.... I PLAYED THIS AS A LITTLE KID! I forgot all about this game LOL
hard to believe this was hot shit.
Well, in those days, games weren't 3D. This is sort of a dinosaur now in comparison, but back then it was a big thing in new technology.
lmao...i know!

Those dragons terrified me as a kid.

I actually played this, it’s a good game!
You have it on easy. The dragons recover too slowly.
This game was so basic but so much fun because we had no idea WTH was even going on.
when I was 5 years old(1985) I got this game but I couldnt understand it now I am 36 and I wonder it
crazy. total time machine. my friend had this game.
