    Good review as usual Mat. I own this car - the A4 Avant 2.0 TFSi S-Line, Scuba Blue... I have to say it is one of the best cars I've owned (and I've driven many including Mercedes, BMW, Volvo). The A4 Avant to me combines practicality with smooth understated sophistication. The interior is so well built and wraps around the driver like a cockpit.
    Prior to this car I had SUVs for a long time and I thought I would miss being high up, but I don;t and the ride makes all the difference. It's also much lower for my dog to jump in/out of (SUVs can be high and hard on dog's joints)
    Some tips for you:
    1. I chose the 2.0 TFSI Auto as the auto has LOWER CO2 than the manual and it puts it in the same company car tax-band as the 190TDi (as diesels get a 3% surcharge added by the government which places them in the same BIK%).
    2. TDI Ultra engines need AdBlue additive or the car won't start - the petrol doesn't, so less hassle
    3. The petrol models are cheaper to buy than the diesel versions and Petrol fuel economy is 42-44mpg on a run, and 35-38mpg around town real-world.
    4. If you order the S-line go for the comfort suspension (non-adaptive) - it's a free "downgrade" from the Sport suspension, but the Sport suspension is lower and much harder on UK roads. As Mat says in the review the standard comfort suspension is pretty good. Adaptive is the ultimate if you can afford it (about £800 extra)
    5. In Mat's review the back centre console armrest had NO cupholders and the back of the driver/passenger seats in front had no nets... This is because (stupidly) Audi charge for these. They call it a Storage pack and it adds about £165. It is well worth it, and adds some boot nets & stuff too.
    6. The equipment levels on the Sport model upwards are very good, tri-zone climate, electric boot, front and rear parking sensors, infotainment with satnav, electric/heated mirrors (non-folding unless you upgrade), inner led lighting, light-up door handles when you unlock the car at night, proper thin spare wheel (no gunk or run-flat tyres), reversible boot floor.
    7. The Virtual cockpit comes as part of technology pack it is a VERY expensive. I think over £1500
    This car is SO quiet and smooth, the auto gearbox is a dream!.. the Turbo petrol has loads of power delivered smoothly through the range on this Turbo petrol engine.
    I drove a BMW on long-term test drive to compare and imo the Audi engines are WAY ahead in refinement, and quietness... the 320D 4 cylinder BMW engine sounds like an old London bus. BMW ride is poor and tyre noise a big issue which is not helped by the run-flat tyres that are standard and you can't choose not to have them.
    Someone commented these wheels didn't suit the car - they DON'T!... BUT these pictured are NOT the standard wheels on any model, someone added those o this demo model. The standard ones are much nicer, particularly on the S-Line.
    Mat's wrong about one thing... you shouldn't "consider it", you should "just buy it" - If you want an estate, not a SUV, this is the best looking, best performing, best built, most quiet & refined estate car of this size on the road.
    Hth

      Trevor Cocks Very helpful points but my mouth is still on the floor with your number 5 point, there are no nets on the back of the front seats! or cup holders in the back centre console! and you have to pay £165 to get them! but with a added boot net, Audi are just taking the P***.

      Trevor Cocks Thank you for your insights Trevor. I am actually on the verge of ordering your exact car! The S-line in scuba blue. Great taste!!

    • @Clarioner1
      @Clarioner1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can't go wrong all the engines are good. If you do a lot of motorway miles and your budget can stretch then maybe the tdi ultra 190...i went for the petrol because I do fewer miles. It is so smooth and quiet. You won't regret it. If you get an S line the sports suspension is hard, and bigger wheels and low profile tyres make is even harder.

    • @carlmain7313
      @carlmain7313 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trevor Cocks I'm just looking at the options available to me now on my company list. It appears I can't go automatic along with S-line. I can go petrol automatic in the Sport trim as opposed to S-line. Annoying as I really like the S-line look!!

    • @Clarioner1
      @Clarioner1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S line is nice, but the body kit is very subtle... The Sport is a good spec, all the main stuff... The infotainment system is the same, sport has satnav and boot opener. The standard alloys on sort lol nicer in real life than the pics (the ones on it when I ordered anyway). S line has almost black roof line inside, which I don't like... I like it lighter. Not sure why your company is restricting you as if it contract hire the monthly price is pretty close.

    I’ve owned one for about 2 years (and buy Rapha clothing so Mat’s spot on with that bit) and covered about 28k miles. Mine has the 7 speed auto, 190 BHP diesel, and is the S Line version. I agree it’s amazingly quiet on motorways. I get about 50 mpg and can stretch it to 60 mpg on long journeys if I’m not in a big hurry. I recommend getting the matrix headlights - they’re amazing.

      @bunnykill48 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Thompson I personally don't think they do that on purpose. To be honest the reason why is because these cars are quite popular and audi is more likely to lend a car for review than some brand from a ruin in Egypt that's underground where it never rains. Maybe a weird example but I really don't feel like they are massive fans of VAG cars. Let's be honest for a motoring journalist this car is probably very boring to drive compared to competitors. I am a fan of audi's exterior and interior so I'm not saying this out of hate.

    • @bunnykill48
      @bunnykill48 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      livc444111 yes this is probably very likely but can you blame them? They aren't like the biggest company ever and consumers are probably looking for these type of cars. It all makes sense from a business perspective. And also educational since let's be honest the average consumer isn't gonna buy a flaming ferrari that's crossed with a second hand Mitsubishi evo 9 with with a bmw like interior. I'd quite like to see that now that I think about it..

    The virtual cockpit display will loose power by time as each pixel "wears off", after some years the light it emits will be more than halved and that makes a considerable difference in daylight. VAG doesn't operate with pixel guarantee so your basically on your own there. Also, at night it's very bright, making it quite annoying and harsh on the eyes and there's no adjuster. I would choose the traditional analogue display.

    • @batdoody
      @batdoody ปีที่แล้ว

      idk what you have done with your cockpit display, but mine works wonderfully - nice and bright during daytime and it has night mode so it doesn´t hurt eyes in the dark. Plus You can adjust the light it emits on both modes.

      JunaidRaids why not just look at a review for that model of car from the year it was released. Why would they review one individual car that's say 6 years old when they likely did it back then somewhere?

    Is there anybody who drove 1.4tfsi engine? Is it a bit dull or enough for a person who drives a bit sporty? Is there any problem with the engine or automatic gear box? Do you recommend it?

    • @morekegsmorelegs
      @morekegsmorelegs 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have experience with the 1.4 TFSI. I wouldn’t personally call it dull, but I don’t know what your experiences with other engines are. It’s definitely peppy enough compared to the Asian rivals with the similar displacement. Torque is available at lower to mid range RPM which makes it not too difficult to overtake. So to summarise, I think the engine is sporty enough, my advice is to look at the suspension and whether you want front-wheel-drive or all wheel drive. I personally would go for the manual if you’re after a sporty drive.

    I hate it when car reviewers pick the top of the line models to review.. Technology pack, virtual dash etc.. Most people cannot afford those extra features and they would go for the basic editions...

    Why bother to design a smart dash and then ruin it completely with a sticking-up infotainment screen? The integrity of the ensemble is seriously compromised. Screen should surely be properly integrated or benefit from a pop-up mechanism?

    How much does audi charge to install a Virtual cockpit?

    • @ARIES6181
      @ARIES6181 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a part of Cockpit Package, €1900 Euro, I think.
      Virtual Cockpit isn't necessary, analog dials are good as well.
      Technic Package is a must, otherwise you will end with single zone climate control which looks nasty.
      Proline Package is a must too. It includes LEDs, color gauge cluster, and more.
