I just picked up an AC1, and it’s great! I’ve played mando, guitar and bass for 35+ years and this instrument truly is everything you say it is! I love it! I’ve always wanted to learn clawhammer style banjo, and this instrument’s easy playability and great sound will keep me interested, I’m sure.
This is a great review! Thank you so much. All the things I want to know. I won an AC1 just today in a drawing, it’ll be my first banjo so I figured I’d look around, see what the internet thinks of it! Right on brother 👍🏼
I love my AC-1! I have a $3000 Vega Senator and still play my AC-1 all the time. I have a no knot tail piece on it, and nylgut strings. Holy crap you make that thing sing though!
I've been stressing this fr my first banjo, the sound was and still is excellent, sold it last year cause although it's sound is lovely the build longevity isn't necessarily beefed up like some of their slightly higher end models
Man when you first made contact with it I was like WTF is that sound really coming from THAT? That thing has more crack than a plumber fixing a sink! Makes me more seriously consider going for one of those AC 5+1 models. I wish GT made a more higher end 5+1, but if the AC 5+1 sounds as good as this, well, that may be all a person needs for such a novelty.
It depends on what electronics you need in the instrument, but if you need something like Midi pickups a Nechville would be your best bet, though they're pretty pricey. If you simply just need any electric banjo, Gold Tone makes a pretty good one that is reasonably priced.

I'm genuinely impressed. I may just get one at that price. BTW, IMO horses = banjos in temperament. 😁
I have 3 pony mares. They’re like theremins.

Thanks so much for this video. Do you think nylgut strings would work on well? I want to get into clawhammer/mountain music. Thanks for your time!

Super-useful, sir! 👍🏼
I own the tenor banjo equivalent. The tuners were awful but upgraded. Plays great and sounds good. Killer playing
