I was also 15 in '97, and was quite a nerd myself. And yes, it was very fringe. It didn't afford me any of the pleasantries enjoyed by the majority of the student body.

Just ask Farai Chideya and she'll tell you why everything is gonna change for the better right now if you want to be an independent person like anybody else in their own homes now.
