To be an adult and realise what a higher quality of entertainment this series brought to the lives of children is in itself quite a charming and humbling moment, as a 3 year old little boy this opening music nailed me to the spot and, it still does! RIP Silvia and Gerry Anderson and Mr Barry Gray.
I spent 2 years in Ward A at Pinderfields Hospital Wakefield Yorkshire, going in as a 5 year old with Perthes Hip (1964) and Thunderbirds was one of the things that kept us kids going. There were 8 of us in the section of the ward and we loved pretending to be the characters. We would tie a rope to our teddy bears or whatever, throw it to another bed and pull our beds together if needed. A magical time. The Thunderbirds will always be a big part of my childhood life.
Too bad this version was only heard in 2 episodes. Trapped in the sky is the most popular one with this song as it was the pilot. And Danger at Ocean Deep was the only other episode this track appeared in.
I also loved Thunderbirds and Thunderbirds are Go but I am disappointed that Gerry Anderson wasn't the one in charge of the Thunderbirds remake. My already high admiration for him increased even more when I found out that he was planning to gender-swap two of the Tracy brothers if he got the chance to remake Thunderbirds.
The fun part is when they select one of the 6 pods for Thunderbird 2 to carry to the danger zone. And then of course when the pod opens after arrival and the vehicle emerges.
