Don’t give up, give your body time to heal, and stretch beforehand.
You will slowly be able to up the distance you run every week. Go slow, one tip I learned was to run at a pace where you can breathe through your nose only, or keep a conversation going while you run. ( try the nose only method, that’s how you know you are going a good pace). And then you can incorporate a faster paced day in between those runs

There is nothing more important than focusing on yourself and do what you have to do to get going. Imagine the eyes of those you love most, how will they be because you have improved their lives by having the guts to focus on yourself and become the best version of you. Our body is constantly trying to find the path of least resistance but it actually thrives best when consistently challenged. And that comes down to a choice. Choosing to go do hard things. There is no end there can’t be. If you put an end to it that’s when your life starts to decline.

USMC bootcamp, MCRD San Diego 2003….i remember the breakthroughs. In the beginning your mind reels and you can’t believe you’re actually there. You get to a point where nobody and nothing can touch you. Not the DI’s…not the other recruits….not the P.T. Or the hazing. Not the endless hikes or runs. You become invincible. That’s what it takes. That’s what it’s all about to be a Man and a Marine and to be truly alive.

I just ran 5 miles. This is third 5 mile run this week. To be honest, I suffered through during these runs, almost fell due to hot air and increased heart rate but I kept pushing my self further. When everything looks grim and you are standing in front of life's cliff, go running. Next morning, wake up and keep running...Next day do it again, and again and again..Until you realize you've grown a thick skin of not giving a damn about suffering any more

  • @tylerletendre1678

I know I'm echoing countless others when i say this is incredible and merely listening to this can be a moment of growth for that part of our brains that we are learning grows in response to our inner-will(the steam to the engine, or, maybe even a "temple where the holy spirit lives/breathes within each of us, our soul") and yet it shrinks as we neglect our free will, or our motivators to learn something new, I am sure it whithers away for those who suffer in their depression and/or circumstances to no end- because we are prone to "go with the flow" or "just wait and see" or brainwashed to "let it go man, just let it go," whatever the case- the point was clear that were all just beginning to learn and better understand a newly discovered part of the human brain...
So! A wild wonder came to my mind: what happens to this part of our brain when we are asleep? To what extent, if any, is sleep an impact on this part of our brains?
Additionally, my other wonder was: let's say any one of us implements things in our lives that prove to grow this part of our brains consistently, is there a "limit"? Or could there be consequences to other parts of our brains, such as being so driven and "bull-headed" that you run to any "bull's eye" target only to be fooled (analogy to a bull in a ring with a ___)
And last but not least; what do others think- how can we better balance this "newfound part of us" so that we are exercising this part of our brain as well as being mindful not to exhaust it or neglect other parts of our brains/mind/free spirit, etc?

Suffering can be an essential part of success, but make sure your working towards and suffering for the right reasons...
If your suffering to complete something that isn't going to help you, then stop.....
It's important to work towards and persevere for something that's worth it and will help you in the future. To many people can't let go of the past, and they suffer needlessly.
Don't be one of those people. You want to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and move towards it , to get your reward.

So curious… I mean, I understand this helps you to grow and feel good about yourself, like you did it, you got it done… but it’s not lasting, unless you keep making yourself do stuff you don’t want to do every day. So my question is, what is the overall benefit of doing this? Why are we spending our time doing stuff we don’t want to do every day? What’s the benefit of that part is the brain he’s talking about growing? When it’s bigger, do we feel different overall, like better overall in life… like have more of a will to live? Is that it?

    • @BagOfBurgers

The whole point is to better yourself. Be it at work, in the gym or in everyday life. He tells you things are gunna suck and you aren’t going to want to do it. But putting in the work will put you ahead of those that don’t. It’s not for everyone. Most people are more than happy to just coast along in an easy life. Goggins is all about challenging yourself.
