The reason why we love Messi so much in Argentina isn't only because he's arguably the best player in the world, but also because, at least on a surface level for people who casually consume football like me, he represents us with his humillity and low profile, a man who loves his family and doesn't forget about his roots and his fans, he makes us feel represented and hopeful in a country where life can be quite rough. If the young and talented Mbappé wants to become a legend like him, he better start taking notes. He doesn't just have to be good at his job, he has to be a hero

That is what happens when you decide to make a young 23 year old the leader of a big club, with legends playing all around..... I still remember when young messi was in barca, though he was the canon and immensely talented, the leadership was always held with a bit experienced and elder players: Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi.... Messi was nurtured in barca to be the no.1 and he learned to be a prominent leader under the experience of some of the best leaders of the club...... It's not easy to be a good leader even if you are the best player around.... It takes time and a lot of maturity and patience to understand what's best for the team and your teammates.... instead of just focusing on being the top guy.
The result you have is today. Argentina won FIFA 2022. Not because they had 'The best player in the world' this time or 'The G.O.A.T.' playing his last world cup(Messi had played so many world cups already)...... But because this time, Argentina had an extremely strong and inspiring leader, which he grew to be after all these years.... Also it was not the same as past years, when it was just him alone fighting and taken for granted by his teammates and million other fans to bring the trophy home...... But moreover a team who truly believed in him, who were ready to play their role the best (best football), even go and die on the field with him, if he led them.... and he never even for a second in so many years ever underestimated them.... He did what he always used to do: Be kind, be inspiring, play his best.... But this time, that too, as an amazing leader.... It wasn't just 1 Messi this time... BUT A TROOP OF 11 PAASIONATE ARGENTINE WARRIORS.... who truly believed in their leader and his dream (and of million others) to win the world cup.
What a beautiful journey. I can't just take my eyes of this team.

@@maxday9446 yes bro obviously.... I never said it was one sided; mbappe is no doubt a talented star, he single handedly changed the game and that's what great players do.... I just pointed out that above all football is a team game, and some things just come with time, experience, your relationship and faith in your teammates. Everyone in Argentina team truly believes and loves their leader.... Be it younger or experienced players.... I mean you can clearly see the change in their performance for around the last 18 months.... It's not just being lucky. Everything led up to their victory. It wasn't just Messi for Argentina unlike just mbappe for France in finals. Everyone delivered beautifully.

There is an interview of them on youtube in which they complimented each other from their heart. Zidane mentioned Ronaldo's successful tackle again Nesta at 1998 UEFA final and how he was able to do that since only a handful of players in the world could do it but not as effortlessly as Ronaldo. Ronaldo spoke of Zidane's one spectacular goal which he thought he couldn't do if he tried it ten times in a row. He was also grateful to Zidane for visiting him in the hospital after he was injured in 1999. Both of them were in Real Madrid back then. Ronaldo hoped that Zidane would pass him ball to which Zidane responded with an affirmative smile. They remain very good friends to this day. Nowadays the only good friendship I can see is between Suarez, Messi and Neymar while they playing in Barca.

Had a look into some penalty conversion data for PSG players.
The average chance of scoring a penalty is 75.5% where as after 86 (i believe) penalties Neymar has a conversion rate of 82.6% having scored 71, which while no, don't get carried away, doesn't make him the best penalty taker in the world, certainly makes him notably above average. Mbappe isn't that far behind him though on an 80% conversion rate but from less (but still a large enough number, including the latest miss btw) spot kicks having taken 25 and scored 20.
In case you are interested Messi has a conversion rate of 77.6% having scored 104 out of 134, Mauro Icardi is slightly better with 82.4% converting 28 out of 34 and very notable Sergio Ramos has 85.7% with 30 scored in 35. The only other spot kick taker at the club worth mentioning might be Pablo Sarabia who boasts a 100% conversion rate from 16 spot kicks! Not the biggest data set but you can only convert the ones you take and he has so far, although I doubt he'll be taking anymore any time soon given... well this and the fact he spent the entirety of last season on loan at Sporting. The man who I'm sure we all remember Neymar originally ripping penalty duties away from at PSG with a degree of contraversy involved, Cavani, is on a respectable 81.7% with 58 from 71 stuck in the net.
To give an idea of how this compares to other modern spot takers:
    Lewandowski 91% with 71/78 scored.
Harry Kane 86.9% with 53/61 scored
    Zlatan: 83.2% with 84/101 scored.
    C. Ronaldo 83.2% with 144/173 scored.
Not many taken but one to watch: Haaland 93.1% with 27/29. Of course there have been some stunning penalty takers in the past that believe it or not put even the likes of Lewandowski's conversion rate into a shadow and I'm sure with more research I'd find some specialists today with % in the mid 90s and numbers taken significantly higher than Haalands.

If you don't count him which would be relatively fair as he's not likely to start a lot, then yes Ramos is top with a 85.7% conversion rate (exactly as I said in the original message).

If you are here supporting Mbappe's ego, then I'm sorry for you cause you have no clue. Mbappe fought giroud and griezmann in French national; and here he goes again, disrespecting Messi and being selfish to share penalty with Neymar. Oftentimes in football, when a penalty kicker misses a penalty, he tends to leave it for another person to play it. I see nothing bad in what neymar did. As for the friendship between Mbappe and neymar, they are not even friends at all, they are just colleague and teammates. And what's the point in trying to make neymar a victim here?
You say Mbappe has a world cup, Thauvin also has a world cup and where is he today?
Let Mbappe show the world the individual awards he has and then, come back and argue with the world that he's better than his whole teammates. He needs to learn; otherwise, he won't maintain his standard in football. Pride goes before a fall!!

Not just in football but life a person who has great potential will always benefit from humbling themselves and learning from their more experienced seniors. Especially in this case compared to Messi and Neymar Mbappes technical skills seem rather average. And with age skills, timing, passing and vision are some of the most important things that will carry a player through their golden years. These are all things Mbappe needs to work on, speed and physicality will perish. He's not even the most accomplished player in the club idk what management was thinking. An unselfish striker will go far, just look at Benzema and Jesus. Money and club influence are the last things that should be on this young man's mind. I'm not even a madrid fan and even I was disappointed in him. Neymar and Messi have been at the peak of football for over a decade. They are the most technically gifted players in the world.
