      Hi Robert. I see this Video Lesson is 4 years old but I feel I still need to comment. This is a great Lesson. You did an amazing job of explaining every detail. And you put a lot of time into it. As opposed to a lot of people who are just tossing up lightning speed lessons that begginer and intermediate players have no chance of learning. Yea , I'm taking about the show off folks.
      Anyway , thank you very much Robert for this great Video Lesson. Stay safe.

      @@arnyarny77 Essentially, it's really slow right hand strumming and I don't like doing it. Slow downward picking just seems way more natural to me, or even just straight up alternate picking arpeggios.

    I've been playing guitar on and off for 20 years. I'm not by any stretch of the imagination good. But the one thing I've just never been able to do is sweep picking. I've read a lot of lessons in the guitar magazines over the years. Watched several videos and tutorials. I've come to the realization that I am physically or mentally unable to sweep pick.
    Until now. I still wouldn't say I can do it with ease, but attempting a few of the runs exampled in this lesson is the closest I've ever come to anything resembling sweep picking. I think with a little more practice with the information in this video, I will actually be able to do it.
    Kudos on a great lesson!!

  • @mrredritehand
    @mrredritehand 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    😔My left hand was completely shattered and every bone in it cleanly broken in half from a rollover truck accident back in 2001. I had 4 plates and like 37 titanium screws installed to try and put Humpty Dumpty back together again lol. I actually really learned how to play guitar while rehabbing the months after the second surgery to remove all my reconstructive hardware from my left hand. I'm lucky my hand even works at all, and truly just to be alive. My point is, I still have pain, and now arthritis to deal with. My pinky just kinda does what it wants but I can hammer on and pull off, and I've been called an excellent guitar player in my respect. But I just don't think it was in the cards for me to shredd like you Robert. This takes alot of skill, practice, and raw talent to accurately and cleanly play these lightning fast arpeggios and sweeps. I've tried and tried but cannot cleanly stretch 4 frets, from first finger to my pinky and hammer on consistantly. It kinda pisses me off because I know I probably could do it if I never shattered my left hand. Maybe I should try to play left handed huh? But heck with replacing all my guitars, you know? Oh well, God is good and I will just keep picking away. Thanks for the lesson Mr. Baker.

    Your lesson videos are always excellent! Keeping the evenness during sweep picking is the part I struggle with the most. I can do it when I follow along to a metronome but it usually goes to pot without one.

      3 months ago I had no clue what I was doing and now (not self promo) but I’m as fast as my recent video. What I did was start with 3 string sweeps on the g b and e, your pattern is gonna be D D D U pulloff U, and the key point is jumping back over the g to down pick it instead of up stroking it and trying to come back down, you’ll get caught on the string almost every time if you don’t make the jump
      Hope this helps :)

    It's not "cheating". It's smart. I just wish I was a bit younger and didn't have such stiff fingers and wrist. But I can sorta do this, slowly. Which means I can incorporate a few elements of it into my playing, if not necessarily the whole thing. Helpful!

    I have played for years, hours a day. I have speed, dope as licks, and plenty of variation. I can't connect the notes up the neck. Everything sounds the same, no matter what combination I play. It's very frustrating, as I have plateaued. The minors, majors, 5ths, are confusing to me. So is chord progression, it's just not clicking. Maybe I should go back to square one, and just study the chords and all the notes. I'm going mainly by ear, and trying to learn at the same time. Watching videos hasn't been too much help either. Maybe throw in the towel?

    • @peacefulruler1
      @peacefulruler1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Meadows learn the different barre chord shapes up the neck. Play for instance an E open chord, then the Cshaped E, etc. This will give you the outlines of the scale shapes in those positions...
      EDCAGE is the sequence chord shapes of a single chord up the neck.

      It's not cheating really, but rather a different way to play sweep picking. What makes it "cheating" in a way is because it lets the right hand rest a bit instead of the constant fluid motion regular sweep picking requires
