- Welcome to my Kongman Restoration Journey!
In this video, I take you through the process of restoring a vintage 1980s TOMY Kongman game. These classic tabletop games are hard to find in good condition without spending a fortune, but I managed to get a decent deal on one and set out to bring it back to life.
Here's what you'll see in this video:
Initial Assessment: A look at the condition of the Kongman game when I first got it.
Gear Repairs: Fixing cracked gears and realigning pieces to ensure smooth operation.
Motor Cleaning: Cleaning and refurbishing the motor to get it running like new.
Detail Enhancements: Sticking down peeling decals, stiffening the cardboard Kong, and reinforcing soft pressboard areas.
Deep Cleaning: Removing 40 years of dirt and grime to restore its original shine.
Missing Piece Creation: Crafting a replacement for a missing part to make the game fully functional.
Why Watch?
Learn Restoration Techniques: Step-by-step guide on how to tackle common issues in vintage mechanical games.
Nostalgia Trip: A walk down memory lane with a beloved 1980s game.
DIY Inspiration: Encouragement to take on your own restoration projects with tips and tricks I discovered along the way.

Ok... I've been told there are sound issues, but there is nothing wrong with the video. I've talked to TH-cam, and they blamed the viewers. I know something is going wrong and it's not your fault, but I can't get any help.
I didn't hear anything wrong
Sounded perfectly fine to me.
No sound here. The last couple of videos no sound either. I'm in the UK.
right channel only for me
Sound is fine. The only thing weird I noticed was a few seconds were repeated.
What I really love about these videos besides your amazing skill and patience to repair these toys, is the amount of engineering that went into producing children's toys before computers were cheap. It's impressive.
It's always fun to see how they get all that play value out of a single motor in these things.
It's impressive.
Love your videos, they are not only entertaining and insightful but your calm demeanor and voice is like ASMR to me.
Thank you. I've been told that before.
So pleased to have found your channel!
Awesome videos and wonderful collection.
Thank you kindly!
The use of magnets in this is great!
Very enjoyable as always, thanks for sharing.
That's SO cool, Randi!!
SPEECHLESS❤🏁❤️
Brilliant work as always! Rock on!
Thanks a lot!
Very well repaired!! 👍
Thanks! 👍
I've never seen these before. Now I want one!😂
They're fun, but pricey.
That is an awesome game, love it❤,Great job Randi
Very fun game.
Never saw that toy before it is so cool !
Wow! That was a cool one!
Super fun! Love the video.
Thank you 🤗
This is one of the videos where I really wish you made 4k videos, what a fun little game!
I'm going to need bigger everything for that. I don't even have the computer to handle it.
@@RandiRainare you looking into an upgrade of your equipment ? I’d also like to see your videos in 4K, and a walk through of your entire collection (hint hint?).
nice work
What a cool game
There‘s a wind-up version of this as well!
Also, the left audio channel doesn‘t have any sound!
Nice job on the restoration. I had similar games as a kid, but smaller.
11:47 I don't know if you know this, but you can get pretty cheap airbrush kits with a compressor for 30-50 Dollars on amazon or ebay. They're not great, but for someone who doesn't need one on a regular basis for paid work, I hear they work very well. I've seen some model makers and builders using them. For 30-50 bucks, you just can't beat it.
17:07 That is definitely not "racist" whatever that word even means. Not only is it not racist on its face, but it literally cannot be racist by 2024 standards because this was made in Japan and only white people can be "racist" by 2024 standards. Depicting SnowWhite as a dark skinned generic poc is considered not-racist even though the original was from the Brothers Grimm about a girl from Germany whose skin was white as snow.
I do remember a game like this that I think one of my friends brought into school in the mid/late 80's, not sure which one it was. but something very simular, only vaguely remember it as think it was only the once oe twice he brought it into school. I didn't notice any sound issues earlier, but did have some video issues on another video from another youtuber whereby the screen went black, but that was just a video editing software issue, as still not resolved when played back 6 hours after noticing the problem.
You're probably thinking of Run Yourself Ragged.
Kind of reminds me of the "Run Yourself Ragged" game, but motorized..
Yep... It's just as fun.
Ooooooh, I remember those, we even had them here in Norway, they where amazing, always wanted one, never got one … time to go hunting maybe - there where also some that where flat - no batteries as far as I remember, only levers and buttons to move the ball forward, still fun though (edit:,had to check and that’s the «run yourself ragged» you talked about :) They where called something different her, but now I know :)
Yes... They had other names. Run Yourself Ragged was also called SNAFU, Screwball Scramble, Tricky Ball, and Tricky Bill.
I have this one home, hope i can find Sonic the hedgehog version one day
I really Like this Game…! 🎵👍🏻❤️
Makes me wonder who thought this up…??? 🤔
Tomy geniuses.
@@RandiRain ..
I Believe you are Correct…!

How does She do it!!!!!!!
I like white lithium grease, but isn't the general rule "oil if it spins, grease if it slides"? I'm sure it'll be fine as those hobby motors are indestructible.
I don't know. You get information from all sides. I'm trying different things, and I'll decide for myself which one I like.
At 7.32 you can clearly see some of the gears are cracked
Hmmm... Yeah, I see what you're saying. I didn't see those when I took it apart. They're not slipping yet, but yeah there might be more work in my future.
@@RandiRain Great Randi, I love your videos and I am binge watching through the playlists.
where is the audio and sound?
What do you mean? there's sound for me.
Why have your videos suddenly become mono?
I don't know what's going on. There is sound for me.
@@RandiRain That's really strange. Last week's video was mono too and I think the one before. My headphones are working fine and I get full stereo out of other youtube videos. Maybe my decoder is out of date. I'm using a linux live distro that hasn't been updated in a few years.
who wants sonic if you can have racist graphics on your toys?
Racist graphics, how you figure. Give me a break. I like your vids but you could have left that off.
It's called a joke, and it is racist, and if you've ever seen Avenue Q, you would know we're all a little bit racist.

@@RandiRain I just watch what you sent me. I get it. I guess I hear the word racist everyday and tired of it all. I'm white and proud. When they were making graphics like that back then it was cool but now its not? Weird. I liked it better when I could joke around with black people and they could joke around with me. I grew up in the 80's and 90's seeing all kinda of racist crap but people laughed it off and had fun. Now, its just gross out there. thanks for responding. I'll keep watching.
@@eroc1024 I would have to ask, just exactly where do you "hear this every day"? My guess would be social media and or content news. I would argue the thing you're really tired of is that. I encourage everyone to stay away from all of that and go enjoy the real world. Join a club or something. I go to three different magic clubs. Facebook, Twitter, or X, or whatever, is cancer. They intentionally pit people against each other so that they will argue. It makes them money. Same for content news.
