    So proud of you, Grace! A quick stint in the mental hospital is way more common than you’d think. You’re setting an amazing example for all of your listeners to seek help if they need it. Your actions save lives. Sending you love!

    So much respect for Grace for speaking about this very vulnerable and private time in her life! ❤️
    I went through a year period of dealing with anxiety, panic attacks, and therapists!
    Yoga, church, my friends and family really got me out of that dark place! ❤️
    Wishing you love light and warmth❤️

    Grace, I totally get what you’re saying abt being told you have bipolar but not feeling like you have bipolar. I started on meds for it bc i would also get super down bad every 3 or so months and they counted that as a manic episode. Bipolar meds didn’t help me and made me worse, keep talking to doctors bc usually they are rly quick to diagnose bipolar. During this time really fall on your team and have them keep an eye on you, starting new meds can be tough. It’s amazing to hear you talk abt this so open I love you and am so proud of you

    • @itme453
      @itme453 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! I started to get worse but wasnt communicating that to my drs. Keep a journal that way when you meet with your dr you dont forget how you are 🫶🏻

    i went thru the exact same thing as Grace did. Had a bad panic attack, did something stupid and ended up going to the ER, got wheeled down in scrubs and all to the psych holding center at the hospital.... immediately realized i didn't NEED to be there, but it was the first place i got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and got me to go to therapy and on medication. it's been 2.5 years and i am doing better, it gets better, so proud of you Grace

    if I was in yalls position I would’ve gone to the looney bin many a time!! your world has completely turned itself on its head, you’re in one of the most unique positions in the world, and you’re dealing with the transition to real adulthood in the eyes of a ton of people who don’t really know u! I struggle with others perception of me constantly so idk what it would be like to process your image through the eyes of this audience all the time. gracie girl, you’re gonna be a star!! we learn the most about ourselves during the lowest moments; not talking about your inner saboteur bullying u in ur brain, but instead trying to understand how your brain works and where things get convoluted vs when you’re having clarity. idk if any of this makes sense but you’re truly doing great sweetie. some people may never see a mental hospital but will have the same severity of the growing pains and won’t be able to grow out of it for a long time. you starting this journey early will save you a lot of heartache in the future and will just make you a wiser adult, a more compassionate/understanding friend and human being, and every little step you take or lesson you learn will make the next “low low” easier to endure. love u so much! also, grace, pls kiss a girl this year 🤌💖

    The cyclical depression sounds a lot like bipolar type 2. I have it. Its different in that it’s more so the depression and periods of “hypomania” which usually goes unnoticed and is just periods of marked productivity. I went undiagnosed for so long cause it’s pretty easy to mask given you’re good a decent amount of the time and can compensate for the periods of low. I’m so sorry you had what I saw to be unfortunately the typical psych ward experience (was also a med student). It’s ridiculous how little therapy access there is through the formal healthcare system. So ass backwards. Anyways, thank you so much for being so open about your experience. It’s so refreshing to hear people sharing so openly and it does a lot to combat the stigma. Your vulnerability is your strength and you’re awesome for using your voice to help others feel less alone ♥️

    The self aware part I felt that soooo hard. I always say to my therapist I’m so self aware I know exactly what’s wrong with me I just don’t know how to fix it and completely sabotage myself so how can I stop that lol

  • @saras2124
    @saras2124 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I also found it super wack when I met with a therapist and they asked me “so what are you thinking for medication?” I was like what??? Can I say Vicodin? I’ve also been through the trenches and wasn’t sure what to do for help, a mental hospital seemed extreme but waiting for a therapy appointment in 2 weeks seemed like not enough. A middle ground type of facility would be dope. Glad you put yourself first Grace!!

    Grace!!! Proud that you are taking action to help yourself. Something I think you should consider is when you feel like you are going into these spells, take a solo trip for 2-3 days somewhere where all you do is relax, decompress and shut out the world. I promise it helps!

    Im so happy you got help Grace, even if you realized it wasn’t for you. My childhood friend was not as lucky, multiple attempts of getting help at the ER and being sent home in the morning to wait to see a therapist… 3 month wait. They couldn’t wait that long.. it’s so sad, thank you for shedding light on this. Regardless of the outcome it’s nice to feel connected

    First off, thank you so much for sharing, I’m sure this helped more people than you know: Also, In order for you to receive medication covered by insurance you need to be diagnosed, which is probably why they diagnosed you so quickly. But if you feel that’s not the correct diagnosis you should definitely look for a second opinion, usually a therapist can give you that!

    Here’s some advice for anyone who ends up in a psych unit. Make sure you don’t stay in bed. Go to the groups. Even if you feel it doesn’t help, you being there shows the nurses you want to get better. If you sleep or stay in your room all day they see that as negative and not ready to improve. This is coming from my personal experiences. I’ve been 4 times in my 20s. Stay safe out there ❤
