- John Ray, the attorney who has represented the family of Shannan Gilbert for decades, is coming under fire for comments at a news conference last week. While the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer, Rex Heuermann, has not been charged in Gilbert’s death, Ray and his team have reportedly been doing their own investigation into his family. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber takes a closer look at the dots Ray is trying to connect.
Correction: The name of one of the Gilgo Four victims was mistakenly spoken in error. Melissa Barthelemy is the correct name, not Megan Barthelemy.

The victim Sandra Castillo is my Aunt. We were close in the 90s. I was 12 years old when she took off and did what she wanted to do for money. Her drug habit was the driving force. My dad and uncle tried to help her as much as possible. But Sandy didn't want help at that time.

I met Jesse at crimecon in Orlando. Very nice. I can’t believe Dr. Baden thinks Shanon Gilbert wasn’t killed by him. I lost respect for Baden after another death that was a clear and obvious drug overdose. Now three are sitting in jail for the rest of his life because he was afraid of the backlash.

Did you see the arrests of morgues selling bodies and body parts off for money? Bodies donated to science sold for art projects for disturbed people to make disturbed art for other disturbed people. One group of arrests were a Facebook group for selling so called oddities. Morgues would give families just wood ash for loved ones paid to be cremated and the body in fact sold off to collectors. As students of the past, you are all just very out of touch with this one.

He kept going into detail about how he was going to dismember me and it still took me a year later to realize he was being serious and file a restraining order. I don't know if the family knew, but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. Even though the daughter is sus, being weird and scary doesn't mean she's leaped to doing these things (yet).

This is disgusting. If she isn't charged, indicted and found guilty, then she'll join the long line of people who have had their lives destroyed by false accusations. Serial killers often use their family as a way to get potential victims to relax their guard, for example showing off pictures of their kid or their wife or their dog. Or he could have been trying to show his daughter that all was normal, no serial killer here. Or it could have been take your child to work day. Or his daughter might have had to do a school assignment on her father's chosen career. Serial killers are experts at deception. I honestly think his family didn't know. Besides the power of denial, he would always kill when his family was out of town. There have been past serial killer cases like that.

As a person with a BFA, claiming that someone’s art or art they like alone as a connection, is absolutely absurd. Their family is Scandinavian and death is a huge theme in that culture. And claiming its witchcraft is just denying someone the right to practice their religion and this isn’t Salem, Mass. in 1600. That the daughter Victoria was into gruesome art is not at all a reason to connect her with any crimes.

The point of the press conference was to bring to the publics attention that much much more could be at stake, excuse the pun.
Of cource LE must get proof and evidence.
Yet hairs were found on the victims from RH's wife and daughter.
It might indicate something or it was transfered. Then that would mean it is possible, not impossible that RH allegedly tortured his victims at his house to pick up his families hairs.
Then again RH's clothes could have had his family members hairs on his clothes.
The big question is where did RH allegedly carried out his kill plan?
All this should make LE look into the matter very carefully.
