- Do you want to know which are the favourite spells of Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) and Katherine Waterston (Porpentina Goldstein)? Vanessa talked to both about their new movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
I didn't realize how adorable Katherine is! I mean i knew Eddie was a cinnamon roll but Katherine too?!!!

she's not supposed to be beautiful in the movie, her character is drawn as quite plain and unassuming

I wouldn't say that. Per JK, Tina is supposed to be beautiful and ambitious. Not plain. That's why the other actresses considered for the part were also beautiful. Including supermodel Kate Upton, who was one of the finalists for the part.
I think her character is supposed to be a bit more career focused, though, and as such probably does less to 'play up' her looks. :) She's obviously beautiful, to me, in the film too because the actress is beautiful - but I don't think the character is trying to come across as someone who tries to aim for looking pretty all the time, if that makes sense :)
When he said he was obsessed with Pickett , I melted. Pickett was one of my favorite characters in the film and it's so great that Eddie agrees. Eddie is the nicest human being, a true cinnamon roll, and Katherine is really sweet! These two seem to have a cute friendship, I can't wait to see more of them! Thanks for the video!
I loved how Eddie did the character. I just fell in love with Newt th first I saw him. He's such a gentle and lovely person. I wish more people saw animals like he does.

Amelia Hodge You can't apparate to different countries. I mean you can but I'm not sure it's legal in the wizarding world. I guess it's kind of like our version of illegal immigration...
Rowling (Quidditch through the ages): "Apparition becomes increasingly unreliable over very long distances, and only highly skilled wizards are wise to attempt it across continents." Even Voldemort couldn't apparate back from Germany to London when he was paying a visit to Grindelwald.
JK said on her twitter that intercontinental apparition is very dangerous x

Tirilu It isn't exceedingly higher, both of them were accused of something they hadn't done, Hagrid for opening the chamber and Newt for taking the blame of one of leta's experiments with beasts
Really? I only just watched the movie. Did I miss the part with the experiments? It was just the first thing that came to mind when I heard he got expelled. I haven't watched too much of the background and interviews so I wouldn't spoil the fun of experiencing the movie for the very first time. But thanks for the info.
Tirilu Newt got expelled first Hagrid later on :) i was reading online another theory that Newt was the one whi gave Hagrid the acromantula... wish this is actually true because it makes a lot of sense and tie things up :)
But Hagrid got expelled for a different reason. Yes, he handled beasts, but Hagrid got expelled because it was believed that he opened the Chamber Of Secrets. He didn't, but he got expelled anyways.

Now, for those who have just watched the video, thinking the same thing and intending on making another comment about it,
I suggest specifying you're talking about the characters, not Eddie and Katherine. Cuz you know, plenty of actors and actresses play as a (potential) couple in movies, which doesn't mean they necessarily have those feelings for each other in real life. Plus, well, one of them is married.

Wait, then how old is Newt when he's expelled or gets to New York?
They kinda-sorta mangled his history in that interview. It's been at the very least, a number of years since Newt was expelled from Hogwarts. He had been off collecting the creatures around the world for quite some time when he arrives in New York City. If you want the exact amount of time check out POTTERMORE Online or the Fantastic Beasts wiki. They've got the most accurate history of the characters. Just for the record, he's 29 at the point the movie starts in 1926. (born in 1897) As a side note... apparently Newt was allowed to reenter Hogwarts and graduate eventually.

I believe the story goes that Newt was given special compensation to go back and finish thanks to Dumbledore's intervention.
Saffron Grey I think Newt is expelled when he's in his last year which is why he's able to use magic cos when Hagrid got expelled, he isn't allowed to do magic outside of school & he got expelled in his 3rd year

Not necessarily. I think would depend on what year he was before he was expelled, and for what reason. Fred and George peaced out of Hogwarts prior to graduation, but nobody came hunting after them to snap their wands. Snapping a wand is a means of limiting magic, not stopping it (remember, Ron used a wand that wasn't made for him at first), and technically speaking once students hit 17 they're legally allowed to use magic outside of school. It has to be something pretty egregious and/or they have lack the proper training at the time of expulsion. If Newt was far enough along in his studies that he would be considered a safe practitioner of magic, there'd be no need to snap his wand.
