    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Ralfy! It is a huge help for someone like me who is in the spring of their whisky journey. Your focus on taking it slow is very reassuring, and I especially liked the comment on not to chase taste. Many happy malt moments to you and the community.

      I assume that Talisker could be an old release... bottled at cask strength maybe? That bottle match perfectly for an occasion like the end of university. Greetings from Italy. Slangevar 🥃🥃.

    Good video as always. I am anticipating and hoping for a temporary lift on the ban on alcohol as of next week and hoping that I will then be able to restock a bit so that I can enjoy a little glass of whisky every now and then while watching one of your reviews. They are so informative and make me feel like I am in good company!

    Quick "scotch mist" question: do older whiskies that have aged down to around 40%abv often come out of the cask cloudy?

    • @BSJDynasty
      @BSJDynasty 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have a sample of glendronach 1978 in the low 40% which is very cloudy. the other samples were all clear, i guess mine was the last pour and some residue came out with it

    You mentioned Armagnac twice in a row Ralfy 😉! And you are right it is an underrated French brandy from southwest of France. And it is better this way, it is still quite cheap. You easily get old vintages at very affordable prices. Cheers from Brittany, the land of Glann ar Mor and Armorik!

    What a revelation!
    I've just tried to emulate this with aldi's 25 year old glen marnoch and a teaspoon of ardbeg 10.
    I can't sit and enjoy the ardbeg on it's own - I've not got the palate for it? The peatyness just it blows my head off. BUT so nice to be able explore the wonderful flavours with it blended within the 25 year old.
    I shall be using a few drops of the ardbeg to jazz up a dram of 'fiddich 15 tomorrow!

    It's interesting how scared some people seem to be with blending. Like you say, quality plus quality should result in quality. Too many frown on altering what comes out of the bottle even with water, and miss out on flavor experiences.

    Ralph, please review Ardbeg’ s Wee Beastie 5 yr old. Just picked up a bottle at about 45 bucks here in lovely SoCal... some other jokers have some reviews up on it but there’s no comparison! I know you dig this distillery and likely you’d have some great insight into young spirits and that age in conjunction with peat/smoke etc

  • @markwebster8743
    @markwebster8743 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couldn’t agree with this more. Tend not to buy the older stuff now as I think the quality v price isn’t matching up. I remember buying a bottle of HP 30 10 years ago for £180 that bottle from the current range is now about £700. Very difficult to justify opening. Didn’t have an issue with the one I bought 10 years ago and I still have some left sealed in a small bottle for a special occasion. If your lucky you can try before you buy but difficult to take the dip without trying. I’ve had some great older whiskies but some horrors too. I find ardbeg a great wee whisky to blend with. Got a blended malt with sherried Springbank, glengoyne, glendronach and the ardbeg 10.i take a wee sample out of it now and again and it took a while but it turned out to be a belter/
