    Check out my other video that explains in detail on using a thread pitch gauge.

      I get the M and 8 etc but i don't get the other things. For example.
      M8 x 10.
      What's the 10? The lengt of the bolt/treath?

    Thank you. This helps. I just am astonished at how seemingly overcomplicated this is.

      Saya juga..kepala 6, garis 3 no 8....bla..bla.. .bla.
      Kenapa tidak langsung saja, baut ini bersaiz sekian 12, kepala bernombor 4..
      Nilai torsi baut ini harusnya ialah sekian..🤢

    Very nice video congratulations 🎊 I have a question, there's a direct relationship between the size of hexagon head an the size of bolts body, can you give me a light on that please, I will appreciate that. Bless.

    Hi, I found this to be the best tutorial on this subject, but on measuring the nut you lost me because I’m not so good with math and this is imperial, but I’m metric so I don’t understand. HELP Me please

    The inside diameter of the nut is 0.655 inch approx. and the outside diameter of the nut is 0.75 inch. How can they both fit together.?

    • @Mainer1945
      @Mainer1945 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is because you need to measure the bolt on the ouside diameter of the threads, and you need to measure the same for the nut, but that is more difficult. The 0.655 is the inside diameter of the theards on the nut...as you said.

    Where can I find the chart in the video ?

    • @saitmillwright804
      @saitmillwright804  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chart in the video is one we provide our students here at SAIT. It is just a tap drill chart and they can be found all over. I would just search one up on google.

    was this the caliper you used: Mitutoyo 530-119 Vernier Caliper, Stainless Steel, Inch/Metric, 0-12" Range, +/-0.0015" Accuracy, 0.001" Resolution...
    Could you recommend one?

    At 1:52 how do you tell which bolt is metric just by looking at it?

    • @ralph5450
      @ralph5450 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't. You have to look at the head.
      3:22 Metric has numbers and standard has lines. He of course already knew.

    How to know the size of bolt as per thickness?

    • @saitmillwright804
      @saitmillwright804  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A tape measure or ruler would work well. You could also use a caliper. Just measure across the threads.

    • @Mainer1945
      @Mainer1945 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best to use a outside micrometer.

    What about bolt head size?

    • @saitmillwright804
      @saitmillwright804  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That can be found by measuring across one flat side of the head to the other.

    • @saitmillwright804

      I would search it on google. Search for tap drill chart. They are very commonly supplied by bolt supply companies as well if you would like a hard copy.

      Isn’t it about time the US standardised to the metric system? As we’ve done here in the UK despite the resistance to change, mostly from older people.

    • @francoamerican4632
      @francoamerican4632 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The US was supposed to switch over to using the metric system in the 1970's. Fast forward almost 50 years and we're still using the same crazy, illogical system that everyone else stopped using decades ago. 🤔

    doesnt mention how to messure the length of bolt

    • @saitmillwright804
      @saitmillwright804  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's a hex head bolt, measure from the bottom of the head to the end. If it's a fastener with a "V" shaped head for counter sunk holes, measure the entire length of the bolt.
