I am a recording engineer. the amount of quality recordings that has come out of this little room is mind blowing.Darren is a genius or there is some sort of magic going on in that room.
Marty, I can testify to a couple of reasons for it. One is Darren's barrista skills. Holy guac-a-freakin- moly does he make a killer brew! Secondly, there allegedly may be donuts involved (my wife can't find out about those due to my weight loss efforts). But the main reason is, we all love each other and respect each other's skill & artistry, and when we record with Darren, his Production brings out the best in everyone. Me, I'm still going with the donuts. 🤣
Thanks Marty. It’s a unique situation recording like this and that requires a unique approach to mixing too. You and I both know that every studio engineer has his or her own ‘style’ but this? It’s became my obsession 😅. My mix ‘suits’ my room. Maybe that’s it?
Every band on the radio wishes they could be as tight and in the groove as this band. Sound as if they’ve been playing together 40yrs. That’s a room full of talent. Amazing. They could sell out arenas today.
The bassist gets my love in this one. Without the groove, no one else can show off. This guy is right in the pocket on a DIFFICULT song all the way through. Bravo, everyone.

It doesn't get any better than that. Former drummer here and I've heard a lot of drummers play that groove and none get the ghost note dynamics right but this guy nailed it. Kudos dude. I could have sworn it was Pocaro.
Darren - your production is on another level. It really does add the X-factor that distinguishes great musicians from sounding just like another generic covers band. Joe Public may not always recognise it - but as someone who has worked in the music industry for over 20 years - myself and many of my colleagues here in the UK have been talking about you. Not sure what has led you to go your separate way - but this right here is evidence that you are the badass who helps great musicians sound their very best - individually and collectively. If you know, you know. Your talent is world class - and we are thankful that you are sharing your talent with us around the globe again.
This is the sound ONLY Darren can get, as it has historically been!! Happy to see you back to where you belong. Amazing rendering. Exciting to see some new faces with Damien and the infectious sense of fun Crafty brings, as well as the return of Tzan and Mario. Rich, tight production by Producernerd and Peadar of SmakOn. Toto are the musicians' musicians. You gotta be good to do Toto, but to do it THIS well...take a bow, fellas. Hope this catches alight across the interwebs.
Yes, I was at the Bridgeway last May (7th?), the last time Darren performed with HSCC, had no idea that night, that would be the last time. Big shock. So happy to see Darren’s new channel. Can’t keep a good muso down.

Well there you have it, some of Adelaides legendary musicians all in one room, playing what in my mind satisfies all musicians across the globe. To sing it you have to be in the one percenters, as a drummer it's the ultimate groove, as a keyboard player it has an amazing overlap in the solo, as a guitarist it's up there with iconic guitar solos and as a bass player it gives you finger technique with a touch of slap. Well done pure Gold..
Give a listen to Rosanna by HSCC and see what you think. I think Darren's got better final production on this version but HSCC's got the live horns, dual synths, and a tighter drumline. Vocals on both equally good. A toss-up for me as to best cover of Rosanna. YMMV
This production talent is what enables great musicians to sound world class. Without this level of production - great musicians and bands just sound like a generic top covers band. But what elevated your previous projects Darren well above their station was this level of artistry on the production. Take a bow my friend - we see you, we hear you and we damn well recognise you. Gotta give the drummer props. Jeff Porcaro was no joke. It's a very technical song to play and this song has been confounding drummers for years. Great job across the board but as a drummer, your drummer has my respect.
I've been waiting Sooooo long for this song and I am not disappointed. Mario do'n the Mario/Porcaro shuffle, Tib killing in vocals and on the Stevie Nicks instrument, Tzan amazing guitar as we know so well, Damien chilling in the back, Crafty animated up front, Darren of course with vocals keys and great mixing, and the red milk crate representing every household in Australia. This is just pure pleasure to listen to. FANTASTIC!
Real musicians well written intelligent music performed live like few can do. I'm blow away by the quality of this recording. Getting a balance of so many instruments including vocals to this degree is mind boggling. Pure Genius, not a term I throw around.

Seen a lot of cover bands in the 35 years I been playing drums and these guys are one of, if not the best one I ever seen. But that's just my opinion. Great work guys

I love that moment at the end when you look around and you know you just nailed it, but you want to see what everybody else is feeling. And they're feeling the exact same way, you can see it in their faces. These guys are awesome! There's no way you could do it any better than this. My band opened up for Bobby Kimball and Toto at the Highlands in Cambridge, Ontario circa summer 1992 - these guys were pros and their gear was top shelf - what an honor-and Bobby Kimball's voice was as sharp and clear as ever. You guys sound phenomenal and really do justice to this song. Cheers.

Been a studio bass player most of my life. I'm in my 60's and Toto was my favorite band in the late 70's-80's. My band opened up for Bobby Kimball and Toto at the Highlands in Cambridge, Ontario circa summer 1992 - these guys were pros and their gear was top shelf - what an honor-and Bobby Kimball's voice was as sharp and clear as ever. You guys sound phenomenal and really do justice to this song. Cheers.

Been a studio bass player most of my life. I'm in my 60's and Toto was my favorite band in the late 70's-80's. I would KNOW if one IOTA of your arrangement was missing (ok, so you didn't have horns, big woop) . YOU Mother F'rs NAILED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
