It’s not too hard. I do handrails. I work with a couple different builders. Metal handrails aren’t too much more expensive than a nice wooded rail, and people really like the metal look.
I really appreciated you working with what you have, not trying to be extra fancy. Most americans are struggling and its hard out here and i appreciated your real-ness. GREAT CONTENT
Excellent job my brother, I suggest you use anchor bolts, would be about the same price as the epoxy and treaded rod, makes the installation faster, for the painting I like to use self etching primer. Great job again and thanks for sharing.
For the people saying that no one would pay that much, its more of a reflection of were you are at. I do pressure washing and people easily pay me 800-1500 for A day's work (even in 2024). Please understand that they are paying for HIS SKILLS, TIME AND EQUIPMENT and that costs money. Also not every client is concerned with price. Price is just ONE factor they consider. Also it also depends on YOUR MARKET AREA PRICES. I have seen pressure washers charge half of what i charge for same work in other areas but their cost of living, expenses are way lower than up here in the pacific north west were im at.
You left the top of the sanotube creating a lake for the bases of the hand rail to sit in. Or did you come back and cut it off? Anyway, other then that, I think you did a fine job.
Man you can do this with stick harbor freight welder… cheap as hell 110 plug up .. and if anybody says otherwise they are not a true welder/ fabricator
That my friend is a lot of work for one thousand two hundred.....after all is paid ....epoxy, all thread, abrasives, metal cleaner, primer, paint, 2 in SQ tb, base plates, argon co2, filler rod and gasoline for the truck...... It is a good deal for the homeowners. They are lucky to have you.
Sonotube should not extend to the bottom of hole, only at grade level for more stable support. Sonotube will deteriorate in time and result in space between concrete and soil. Learned this the hard way.
He had a couple hundred worth of materials in the job not counting the thousands of dollars worth of machinery he used to complete the job and years of experience and knowledge 2k was a modest price
WOOOOOWW! Great video BUT I'm not sure if I'm envious or what. You do fine work but my charge for the identical setup and installation would be - maybe - 500 + materials tops on a Good Day. Are you in a really affluent area? Anyway, More power to you, young man! All the best.
Just wondering. Why did you not put some embed plates in your concrete? I'm not saying that you did anything incorrect. There's so many different ways to construct. I think if it was my job , a piece of flat plate with some rebar or nelson studs welded on one side to hold the plate in the concrete. Then weld the uprights to the plate . Either way, I like what you did . I definitely learned some things. Thanks for the video
So you're just painting directly over mill scale? I think? I've been wondering if I can do that... as projects get larger there's no way you can grind it all off.
5:30 the easiest way to describe all that jumbling would be to just say that this drawing isnt to scale. then everyone knows its all guestimates and this looks about right measurements versus actually following the drawing haha
I couldn't get $500 for that job. 38 years experience, thousands of $in tools, have my own shop with no mortgage or rent. Miller trailblazer 302 on a custom made welding trailer that I built. I'd be lucky to get $400+the $160 for material
These video's make everyone think they can buy welder and just go make money. Good luck, its not that simple. That's the issue with TH-cam making everyone think they will get rich. When actually most channels are making stuff up to get views.
Whats a job like this run in your area? A lot of people are saying a few hundred not a few grand. I truly don't know, I work on cars, this ain't my field of expertise. Cool project nonetheless though.
The hardest part is finding rich people who want handrails
That’s fair. There are senior grants in our area for ppl looking for safety Reno’s
One art of any craft seems to be finding folks with more money than sense.
BS… theres plenty of jobs out there!! At that rate!

They usually want aluminum with a powder coat finish

Appreciate this! 🙏
Planned obsolescence is the worst. It’s in everything.
I watch a huge amount of how-to videos and so many times I can't give alike or subscribe. This video is one of the best I've watched. Great job.

The knee on the pedal was kinda impressive.
I have been working as a welder for some time, but what I have seen is that those who have the more money are the ones who wants to pay less. 😅😅😅
Absolutely
You my friend are 💯 correct..
Is it cost effective to do this with TIG?
Here I'd go broke with the cost of gas and filler for that kind of job.
It’s definitely not 😂- if I was doing these all day I would chose wirefeed. But this is what was handy in my shop at the time 🤙🏻

Great job questions the baseplate could you have put it on top of the concrete wile semi wet put allthrade in first avoid drilling
Keep up the great content!!
Thank you!
Nice work
thats good work right there and thanks for the tip on getting paid on time since I had one customer delay my payment for almost 3 weeks.
Never fun trying to chase down payment.
@@Welddotcom definitely 👍🏽

Why not anchor bolts?
Nice, you made out like a bandit, such a job is worth a couple of hundred.
Lol couple of hundred? I guess you’re working for minimum wage.
Sonotube should not extend to the bottom of hole, only at grade level for more stable support. Sonotube will deteriorate in time and result in space between concrete and soil. Learned this the hard way.
Simple job but keep in mind the customer is paying for experience. This is easy 3-5k by a larger outfit in my area
He had a couple hundred worth of materials in the job not counting the thousands of dollars worth of machinery he used to complete the job and years of experience and knowledge 2k was a modest price
If you did it for a couple hundred.... you're in it for sport
Perfect job

The tig welding is the best end result. You can't go wrong with tig
I did a hand rail for my gfs dad and got payed very well! But! I have no clue how to get more work!
Depends on your area but over here some work is subbed out from larger companies. Or word of mouth. Sometimes just hitting the pavement is enough
So you're just painting directly over mill scale? I think? I've been wondering if I can do that... as projects get larger there's no way you can grind it all off.
Just curious. Why didn’t you go with round pipe?
5:30 the easiest way to describe all that jumbling would be to just say that this drawing isnt to scale. then everyone knows its all guestimates and this looks about right measurements versus actually following the drawing haha
Nice real world advices, however 2K not gonna get in my area. Too much competition and cheap labor.
Very much appreciated
Great video well explained
Love the advice get half payment and the other half payment on the day of.
Gotta make sure you get paid for your work!
How do you get customers? How do they know to call you? How do you market your service?
Sharp bruther
That cost 2k.....wow
£200 in the UK for that
id definitly want it powdercoated or stainless for that. that be like £500 max at the place i work
I'd charge £250 personally but 2k is quite frankly a joke. It's some box section, I could cut fab and weld that in an afternoon taking my time.
I'm up here on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska building my wedding truck bed now!
Am I the only one that noticed he painted with black spray paint with nothing on the garage floor ?
Certain states like Nevada you can’t make handrails for customers unless you have a contractors license

“This is not an engineered drawing” …yes…yes sir it is
Ohh you will get richer give your self two more years of hard working keep with youtube

Damn, you need to work on marketing skills.
@Tech-oc5uv
At the end of the day, the customer will get the cheaper quote.
Nice work but Not really a side hustle wish I had energy after 12 hour day to go and do my own work and more work space
Yeh - you have to pick you battles. I couldn’t do this every night but over a weekend once in a while. Not a bad gig
@@sewingwithfirewelding5627 good point maybe when overtime runs out I’ll start doing other projects
Once the weather starts changing and you get condensation in those tubes I can tell you for a fact they are going to end up freezing and bulging out.
Weep holes? He should go back and drill some real quick! I think he just forgot is all.
Good looking rail. Center the mounting flanges on the concrete though.
Great point!
Killed me!
mig it
lol can’t believe she paid that much for 1/2 days work and material
That ain’t worth 2k either way someone will pay
I'm I stick welding school
If the handrails were small enough - perhaps 2 to 4 steps -- I would fabricate the handrails on the location.
