If the grid goes down or you can't leave your house for some reason. We never know what catastrophe could happen, especially in these troubled times. JMO Take for what it's worth. I am a little wary of Scientology. If anyone has read Leah Remini’s book she talks about the downside. I guess if someone is just going by the food menu it is ok but I do not believe the Scientologist’s give people something for nothing.
A lot of low SS/SSI payment recipients only qualify for $23 a month in EBT. Many food pantries have more customers than they have available food -- depends on location. Not everyone gets cakes, ground beef, lettuce. soda. croissants etc.
Yep it's hard to get food on that amount when your bills take everything you get on a small fixed income. And our food pantry is pretty low most of the time. I'm on disability and get that amount too.
Seems like a trained nurse would know that fake cheese, potato chips, cookies, Rice Krispy treats, pretzels, etc. are empty calories and supply no nutrients. They would know that they're not food & therefore not a good value, no matter how cheap.
No calories, no energy. I’m not a chesse lover but don’t people usually use cheese as an ingredient in a sandwich or some casserole, instead of making it the main dish. People want to be full and they also want to enjoy a treat like a chip or a sweet like acookie. She also teaches how meat is better than other dishes. She also teaches soup is good and to have protein bars on hand. She also teaches people how to get the best price and make it at home so they can enjoy all of the above in their budget.
@Jazbo777 It's strange that with her medical background, that she would encourage us to use our hard earned money to buy junk food. It seems like a nurse would be more concerned about health. She tries to promote prepping for hard times on a low budget, but contradicts herself. We can absolutely eat well, feel satisfied, have productive energy without eating crap. There's always room for occasional treats & they can be made from scratch with wholesome ingredients.

I live alone and only have social security as income. 23 dollars of EBT. In central Indiana. 😢
