Wild Ennerdale | working with nature for wilder forests

Lying on the north-western edge of the Lake District National Park, Ennerdale is home to one of the longest running wild land restoration projects in the UK. In this film we speak to forester Gareth Browning to discover of story of this unique valley.
Wild Ennerdale is a partnership led by Forestry England, National Trust and United Utilities as the three primary landowners in the Ennerdale Valley, as well as Natural England, the Government’s advisor on the environment.
The partnership has a vision to allow the evolution of Ennerdale as a wild valley for the benefit of people, relying more on natural processes to shape its landscape and ecology, and support nature recovery on a landscape scale.
Wilder forests are a part of our plan for nature recovery in the nation's forests. We are establishing a network of wild areas, creating at least 6,000 more hectares by 2026.
