It Happened! NASA's $2B Moon Mission FALLS APART. What SpaceX & Musk knew all along...
How concerning! NASA's multi-billion-dollar lunar exploration mission is at a standstill and risks failing at any moment.
Meanwhile, SpaceX's Starship program is thriving, showcasing the growing power of the private sector in the space industry. This might be exactly the key NASA needs to salvage its mission before it's too late.
However, NASA has yet to make a final decision. Orion does not get a heat shield upgrade. SLS not be canceled.
Why?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
It Happened! NASA's $2B Moon Mission FALLS APART. What SpaceX & Musk knew all along...
Once again, NASA's Artemis II mission has been delayed. While this may not come as a surprise to those closely following the program, for the space enthusiast community, the sense of disappointment is unavoidable. Artemis II, a crucial step in humanity’s return to the Moon, is now facing significant obstacles.
In this context, the United States finds itself under increasing pressure as it participates in the modern space race of the 21st century. Remarkable advancements in space technology and competition from other nations have heightened the urgency of NASA’s space exploration goals.
It Happened! NASA's $2B Moon Mission FALLS APART. What SpaceX & Musk knew all along...
China, a major contender in this field, has set an ambitious goal of landing its astronauts on the Moon by 2030. Notably, China is often cautious and precise in setting its timelines, making it unlikely to miss this deadline.
Meanwhile, NASA’s Artemis program continues to face a host of technical and management challenges, leading to extended timelines.
First of all, there is the problem of the Orion spacecraft heat shield.
The heat shield on Orion has emerged as one of the most significant obstacles to the lunar return. After Artemis I splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, subsequent inspections of the Orion capsule revealed unexpected performance issues with its heat shield.

Is it just me, or has this channel gone to shit in the last month?
I had a weird challenge to my innocuous post from Alpha tech
NASA has been floundering to nowhere for many years. Huge cost over runs and no accountability needs to end
Im old enough to remember a film about the heat shield on the Apollo missions, the hand build every nodule and they claim they lost the tech...using space shuttle rockets is not to me safe, plus a refiil in space, dumb if thoughs refill tanks get in the sun the fuel will quickly evaporate,,,,I cant see it happening
Artemis is a scam.
NASA is an expensive JOKE
"go fever". Worked out well for Columbia and Apollo 1
Nah, Challenger is go fever, Columbia was let's not go (nor tell the astros)
Too bad DOGE and Elon can't go to Boing and LM. I bet they are a cluster F too!!!
Bill Nelson is no longer there. Why do you keep showing him in your pictures?
They had a working heat shield in 1969, even earlier.
Am I stupid but isn’t it a better idea to use SLS to launch the fuel to fuel HLS to the moon. Next, land HLS on the moon, lift off rendezvous with Orion, return HLS to moon to use as a base for a future moon base then use Orion to earth orbit. At this point it there must be a way to use a dragon to ferry the astronauts back to earth without ‘catching a bullet’.
I told you so. SpaceX is all the space program we need.
In the Shadow of SpaceX, all else are miniscule or total failures.
Yes, amongst lesser failures, SpaceX stands as the Grand Fail King of the Failure Empire!!
Replacing Orion/SLS would be easy. Just use Dragon to dock with the Starship lander in LEO after propellant loading. ie - Put the astronauts in the ship in LEO rather than Lunar orbit. Changes nothing and is less risky.
There was never a need to make the switch in Lunar orbit. There was never a need for Orion/SLS once Spacex lander was selected.
Just pork adding $4.5 billion to the cost.
Starship lander, depot and tankers cost NASA $3 billion one time.
Going back to the moon again would cost $1billion per trip with Just Spacex.
$200m for Dragon
$400m for Starship lander
$300m to reuse tankers and depot
$100m for.... misc?
Starship is thriving with a failure on IFT7? I wonder if he knows what “thriving” means🤔
Do you know what a test flight program is?
It really just blows my mind that when space X says we are pushing the limits and moving fast so we will probably be blowing up some ships, the dumb people are shocked when they blow one up.
SpaceX and Elon keep claiming so much but delivering very little
Thanks to dems in the FAA, EPA, etc.
Don't make me laugh. Would Nasa even have a space program without Space X? No. Nasa would have to go crawling back to Putin to buy tickets on Soyuz.
you are a low-information person...
You OK over there?
You a Troll Man... Troll man!!!
Orion hear shield lost Chunks…almost 100….it was not just excessive wear
Well, at least the Orion didn't explode over the Caribbean before it reached orbit.
you are a low-information person... Political BS troll.
I always hear praise about the starship of spaceX. The trial and error method of SpaceX resulted in burning 3B taxpayers money the maximum altitude which the starship reached was around 150km. While the Artemis 1 from NASA already has circelled around the moon in 2022. And for referrence, the moon is at a distance from the earth of about 385000km.
Do you actually know what you are talking about?
3billion….on what.,,,what is government funding at SpaceX…besides HLS
Wow, this channel really attracts low information people.
shit we doing another race to the moon rubbish.....usa vs china?.....sigh
Your statement contains serious allegations that are not supported by any credible sources. If you are looking for factual information or have concerns about Elon Musk’s actions, I recommend referring to verified news sources and legal reports. Let me know how I can assist you in finding accurate and up-to-date information.
maybe they can borrow some off the standard matt black paint musk is using for a heat shield
Reentry from the moon is way faster than the speed of Starship reentering from orbit. Apples and oranges.
Now tht there's a new Admin in NASA, things will drastically change. In addition, SpaceX will be the partnership in building, completing such spacecraft, and boosters of NASA's project. SLS w/c is a Super heavy-lift rocket 🚀 developed by NASA. It's their Deep Space exploration, primarily focused on lunar missions with the Orion Spacecraft.
Thank U my friend ✨️🌾
It's a fun journey rdg, cultivating my memory bank 😉🤭😹
Take care 🙏

I'm just wondering if they could put some legs on a heavy booster and landed own a barge andy the Indian ocean refuel it then fly it back.
Elon For President of Mars 2026!!!
Great. Send him there. Less damage here. Shotwell runs SpaceX anyway.
Look at it from this point of view. NASA is a US federal owned group, which represents them and all their beliefs at the time. SpaceX is a private group. The reason SpaceX has caught up so fast is because it has not been bogged down with socio-political BS for the last two decades nor any of the DEI stuff (though legally, maybe they were forced to, not sure), so they have just forged on with a common goal and focus on their own job, rather than worrying about upsetting someone from a minority and getting sued etc, or looking at a woman and getting arrested for harassment. The SpaceX team are focussed. NASA is not.
Another cultist blaming DEI for everything. Seek help. Escape that bubble. Reality awaits.
What gas Monte Carlo simulatiins have to do with anything? Any who knows wgat is won't know what it gas to do with Artdmis schedulung
You could not pay me enough money to get on their spacecraft. Elon needs to audet them and see what kind of money they have misappropriated. The astronauts safety is the most important. NASA is like Boeing Putting cost reduction over safety. Plus Elon will be there to the moon this year. Everytime i hear that guy talk all i hear is more money. I wonder if they were getting money from USAID...{q}
Thos robovoice....
StarShip can't even get to orbit! Can't get to Luna orbit without 10 plus refueling flights. 😂 To be fair, the whole Artemis concept is flawed. Just curious as to why Falcon Heavy is not being used? FH could be adapted far quicker than current StarShip fiasco. Also, Dynetics Alpaca is a far superior design for actual moon landing. If ever successful, StarShip could be used for cargo, won't be human rated this decade.
well starship is testing
Starship has enough specific impulse available to reach orbit and carry an enormous cargo payload with it. Reaching orbit is easy compared to the other work that needs to be done, all of which does not require it to reach orbit.
@@joegallo3376 That's future Starships, maybe. The current one was not making target altitude with the small payload, and ship 2 burning full. The telemetry tracks around 80% of flights 4-7 in all metrics. That's why they're pushing the next and next at all times. If this version was considered done, Starship would be done. The next one may, hasn't yet, but may show it can hit near the numbers it needs.
@@troys9222 None of the flights were intended to be orbital. There is no doubt that there is enough horsepower to get to orbit.
Once the Starship flight cadence increases and recovery of both the FS and SS become routine Sx is planning to launch Starlink’s on Starship test flights. Ultimately the cost of using Starship to LEO will be similar to the cost of using the Sx FH. FH max payload size to LEO is 63.8 tons to LEO when all 3 FS cores are expended and only 53 tons in a partially reusable configuration. Starship has a payload capacity of 100-150 tons to LEO. Way more capability than FH. FH has only launched 6 times since first flight in 2018. All of the Starship refueling missions to get to the moon is puzzling.
Musk's $3 billion contract to develop the next vehicle to carry astronauts to the moon has so far delivered a banana to the Indian ocean .
Na starlink paid for that. NASA $ is being used for 2 flights to the moon.
Starship is not going into orbit while testing incase somthing goes wrong.
